“Bob Cousy was a loser in the nba”. I’m not sure what “loser” is a…. - 13x All Star - 6x nba champion - 10x all-nba first team - 2 nba all star game mvp - 8x nba assists leader - top 75th anniversary player of all time Bob Cousy is credited as giving attention to flashy basketball which heavily increased the leagues popularity and attendance. The league was in its infancy at the time and was desperate for more publicity. It was bc of players like Cousy who brought wide spread attention and interest to the league at the time, that the nba is where it is today with its popularity. A great player in an era will find a way to be great in any era. The game is so different now, it’s just not fair to compare current players such a Chris Paul to Bob. There’s nothing wrong is saying that both Paul and Cousy are great respectively for the time they played. But to call Cousy a “loser” it’s just so disrespectful and not even true. Do some research buddy, bc you’re speaking straight out of your ass with no accurate information. The league may not half been as integrated as it is today. But over half of the Celtics that Bob Cousy played with were black. To name a few, Bull Russel, and KC Jones… And the reason the league was full of plummers and fireman was bc they weren’t making enough money off their nba contracts to not work. This doesn’t mean they weren’t the best talent in the world. It just means they weren’t getting paid alot
@katherinemurphree6858 Жыл бұрын
Your comment is beautiful!!! And what bothers me is when he said that they played again firemen and plumbers. So are firemen and plumbers just lazy, lard ass, worthless players? That offends me. So a fireman can be good enough to save your life but can't play basketball good/great? What does that mean? So when a pipeline breaks and this great plumbers saves your house from major flooding, he can't play basketball either????? So basically you can only be great at only one thing in life is what he is trying to say? What an insult to the ball players, firefighters, and plumbers. If I was a plumber and jj called me to come hire me to fix it, I would take me dear sweet time, go out to dinner, do some shopping, hopefully get held up at a long train while I'm headed to do my, POS job. True if I was I got a call at the fire department. Oops,.got a flat on the way, but since I'm so out of shape it took a little longer. He needs to watch who he talks about. It's an uproar about the players, but I'm upset about how he disrespected all 3. One day he will need a fireman and better hope that fireman didn't get as offended about that comment as I did. My dad was a fire captain and also was a great baseball player. Had to get surgery on both knees so couldn't do baseball anymore. So was my dad a POS firefighter or a POS baseball player?.......

And Bob cousy is sooooooo not a loser! There is a good chance without him and the other few pioneers, there would be no basketball like there is. All these players getting paid um way too much in the millions would be 'plumbers' and Uber drivers today. They shouldn't be talking down. A more interesting comparison would be Jason Kidd versus Bob Cousy. Two point guards that can't score efficiently, but still made everyone else around them better with their court awareness, ability to read the defense, and set up their teammates for an easy one. Kevin Johnson would be a more direct comparison to Chris Paul. Kevin Johnson turned the Suns around to a winning franchise the season they started him, 55+ wins, and kept it that way throughout most of his career, even before Barkley joined the Suns. It's why guys like LaMelo and Luka are coming in and instantly being difference-makers. Cousy was actually VERY good. He could make passes that were like something Magic would do. He wasn't a great shooter but literally the entire league was trying to figure the game out back then. By the time West and Robertson came in, they had 10 years of basketball to look at. By the time CP3 came in, guys could legitimately JUST play basketball, plus he's got all the technology and medicine behind him that you didn't have in the 1950s. It's just dumb to call CP3 a better player when we don't know what he would've been in Cousy's era and we don't know what Cousy would've been today. What we do know is that both guys had great talent on their squads. CP3 has had some of the best teams in the league for the past decade and he has had ZERO championships. Cousy won 6. Plus Cousy contributed in a major way to those chips. CP3 has contributed in a major way to all the losing. There's no excuse for his performance vs the Mavs and there's no excuse for dropping a 2-0 lead last year. No excuse for being bounced by Corey Brewer and Josh Smith against Houston. Arguments that can be made on behalf of Cousy: 1. “There were only 8 teams” That means that, on a nightly basis, Cousy had to play against members of the top 100 players in the world. You had to be MUCH better than your peers to earn a spot on a team back then. Nowadays, the top 600 players in the world are in the NBA. (The limit on the number of black players allowed on teams diminished the quality of players within the league, and that fact weakens this argument) 2. “Cousy only got 1st team All NBA once while Jerry West and Oscar Robertson were in the league” First, no he did it twice. @zbynx2 жыл бұрын
There might have been fewer teams, but also way fewer people who wanted to play on them. There won't be any data available for that, but it would be much more interesting to compare how many people competed for one spot on an NBA roster back then as opposed to now. That would give us a much better idea when it was the most difficult to make the league. I'm only guessing, but I think right now there are many more people who are dreaming of playing in the NBA (or rather, are actively doing everything they can to achieve that goal) than there were in the '60s.

Anybody disrespecting Cousy is a clown....the man literally changed how basketball was played when he pioneered fast breaking..... literally every team for the next 30 years tried to copy that style of play to match the success the Celtics had because of that style of play.... Wilt scores 50 a game due to the break neck pace the league played at due to cousy and the Celtics It wasn't until Jordan came along that everything changed to running sets to exploit mismatches which after he dominated, made every team copy that idea and that became the new meta...

Basketball fans are so weird. In no other major sport do I hear people calling older eras trash. It would be like calling Babe Ruth a bad hitter because the fast balls back in his time barely broke 60 MPH. Its just a wild tone that I don't understand. I mean, i get that older generations weren't as skilled and the league was smaller, but they were basically inventing the game as they played. Cousy basically invented behind the back no look passes. He helped invent the fast break. He, and many of his peers, were pioneers, innovators. And they weren't paid tons of money to do it. They did it for a passion of the game. It is wildly disrespectful to look at all that and say that their stats were bad, the whole decade was trash. Personally, I think Bob Cousy's natural talent was amazing. He had fast hands, good court vision, and was highly creative. If he was born in a more recent era his numbers would have been much better. That said, Mad Dog Russo is absolutely huffing some serious copium here. I get being upset that the old hoopers are being disrespected, but then there is just being in denial. Bob Cousy himself admitted that there were kids being taught what he invented and pulling it off better then he did.

The dude just doesn't know how to argue. Cousy was more than just a guy who had 29 assists. He was making those Magic Johnson passes 30 years before Magic did it. He was that revolutionary. Yeah he sucked as a shooter but it was just how things went then. Thing is Cousy was a major contributor to 5 championship teams and he was ahead of his time. CP3 has never won anything despite having a great level of talent around him. At some point, you just gotta stop protecting CP3 from criticism. It seems that we just say he's a top 5 PG but there's nothing to back that up. He's not better than Magic or IT. Not better than Stockton. Not better than Kidd or Nash. Not better than West or Robertson. Not better than Steph or Tony Parker. He's maybe top 10 but definitely near the bottom of that top 10. The playoffs are where you shine and prove you're a top 10 player. CP3 has fizzled out too many times to have a legit case. Say what you will about Cousy, he did win 5 chips and he contributed to that winning in a major way.

I also liked the fact that, although I thought you were doing a bit of the same cherry picking you accused Russo of (for the record, Russo is a blowhard IMO), you finished up with some very respectful remarks about Cousy as a person. For the record Cousy's first roommate was non other than . . . Chuck Cooper, and they remained friends after Cooper left. I think Cousy is still highly regarded as a player because he had a very new, unusual, flamboyant playing style (almost effeminate, like Fred Astaire's dancing style) which was had not been seen yet in the NBA. Finally he did need Russell to win those six championships, no doubt, but I think you could make that observation about many players. Anyway, I enjoy your videos and find them quite thought provoking. I don't agree with everything you say, but that's half the fun! Regards.
