Dylan was never a “Pop Star”. He had only 1 number one on the charts and it wasn’t a pop song(Like A Rolling Stone) His song “I want You” was sort a pop song but barely cracked the top 40. His influence was global and the Naysayers were always around and still are but his influence and popularity remain. The “POP” Fans never did like him or else were indifferent to him.

I think maybe, after a few more gigs, these guys may have gotten into becoming a real cool groovy little band for sure. Not ready for the big arenas, correct… not at this point right away anyway. But maybe for a smaller type tour possibly. There are so many “what ifs” here certainly. But then again, so what right? Ha! And you are right @peterburlin8198. That quirky guitar player was pretty damn raw in those days. Fortunately I think he’s still raw & quirky, and he’s also gotten a little smoother at it all too, if I do say so myself. It’s also kinda wild to still be talking about this one sliver of a live moment 40 years ago inside the huge musical output of Bob Dylan. Seems there must have been some impact achieved by it, like it or not. Such is life at its best imho. ~ JJ Holiday PS - Yes, Charlie Quintana was always a great drummer & human being. Loved him. RIP 💔

@theimperialcrowns Holy shit, you ARE the guitarist we are seeing to the right (or, stage left) of Bob Dylan in this video... How are people just skating over this? BRAVO!!!!! You farking killed it that night, and had me absolutely bouncing in the driver's seat of my Corolla just now. What a thrill this had to be for even one night! How did you come to meet and play for Dylan? Do you and your current band still perform? I loved every sound I heard come out of your guitar during this performance, like Keith Richards with a bit different more a touch different melodic sensibility and some other ingredient that i cant put my finger on. You would've been sharp as a tack just a few gigs in, as is this is a hell of a statement to make on a live TV broadcast. You're a living legend, and I tip my hat to you, sir. To anyone that doesn't understand what a great job this sideman guitarist JJ Holiday did for this show under such pressure hasn't stepped foot on many stages, if any! Thats a BIG responsibility, accompanying that larger than life lebel of an artist. You deserve KUDOS, love and acknowledgment. JJ Holiday, y'all!

Bobʻs alot better a guitar player than most people think! His early solo acoustic albums always featured great picking, and on electric guitar, Bob can really blend with, and play off of another guitarist. I saw him a few times with G.E. Smith on guitar, and they always meshed together like theyʻd played together for years, but they were also so unpolished and spontaneous, the band would huddle together after each number, like they were saying “what do you wanna play next??” God bless Bob Dylan, live forever.

@@theimperialcrownsthank you sir. It's a real honor to get to hear from you. These David Letterman videos of your band with Bob Dylan are legendary. I've been in the music business 55 years. Take care.

Daniel Romano recorded the entire Infidels album as how he thought it would have sounded had Bob recorded the album with this band. How cool is that?
