I love how this is just a reminder that what Bob does is what he loves to do. Anything else would be a comparable nightmare, because he's living the dream. Expressing his creativity through food, making a business out of it, feeding people, all with his terrible family. I mean, he loves them. But they're _all_ *terrible!*

When I worked as an office cleaner I sure felt lucky I wasn't one of the poor souls behind the desks. Just an abyss of nothingness. At least I was actually doing something that was at worst mildly unpleasant but usually at least interesting and rewarding. Not that cleaning is free from the bullshit though. My third cleaning job was _mildly_ scammy in that the boss was pretending we needed 8 hours to finish the job every day (we needed 2 at most) so he could siphon more money from the company contracting him. It meant we made a lot of money for not much work, but trying to fill those extra 6 hours was a nightmare.

Honestly, having worked in an office for 2 years, it really wasn't half bad. You just gotta spice it up a bit for yourself - decorate your desk a little, listen to your favorite tunes all day, put on some nice podcasts, have fun chats with clients, drink some coffee and tea... I stopped because I didn't want that to continue forever, you do feel like your development as a human being somehow stagnates. (And I also felt absolutely 0 connection or loyalty to the company I worked for, and some of my coworkers were really insufferable and politically on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, but I somehow found ways to survive with some meaningless smalltalk.) But all in all, as a kind of in-between sorta job, or while trying to figure out what else you want to do with your life? It was kinda comfy working in an office. Now I'm in a financially insecure situation again I really kinda miss it. Definitely don't wanna do it your whole life, though.

Just keep applying. At first pick up whatever you can find, but keep looking for something better. I got an office job right out of college but I already had a bunch of work experience. I would work two or more jobs while going to school. They weren't lucrative jobs. Target, Nabisco Merchandiser, Frys Cusomter service rep. But then I got a job with a research group as an office assistant, then I worked in technical support for a different company. When I finally graduated I got a pretty sweet account manager job for a software company and I eventually moved to their IT department. Still making gains. Just keep you head up and pay your dues, there's no easy way...

I worked service/sales/manual labor jobs through my teens and twenties. Turned thirty and wound up in an office job (something I was highly against having through my youth) and I have to say I’m happier doing this job than any other. I mean, it definitely gets boring, but so did all my other jobs which were also acutely stress inducing. I don’t have random people yelling at me, or have to wake up at three am, or work in hundred degree weather, or do my personal business in a fetid Porto-potty, or even engage in small talk if I really don’t want to, anddd I’m getting paid more than I ever have. This is the happiest I’ve probably ever been in regards to work life. I’m glad Bob is happy doing his thing though. Love that guy.

I think it's the trope of receptionist/security/front desk person. That if you are not in the same tier and talk to them they always get the Aprehensive or "you think you're better than me?" face. Where I am working there's a security/reception guy to whom people occasionally just say "Hi" or try to talk to him and he just makes that face and occasionally mumbles something.
