These are probably my favorite guitars of all time, including the Epiphone Casino! Amazing collection you have, and thank you so very much for sharing what you have. I know a few guitar collectors or players that would rather die than show and play what they have! Videos like this I can watch for hours!

Love your channel, couldn't agree with you more. I picked up a 1967 es 330 td in 1978 and it is my favorite guitar out of over a dozen that I own. It's so comfortable to play and resonates so well, and the p-90s are fantastic. I used to have feedback issues when I gigged with it, so I usually use my Les Paul or strat depending on the gig, but it is the guitar I always go to first at home.

Wonderful collection! My favorite guitar is my 1967 Gibson ES 330 TD sunburst that I acquired in a trade with another kid for my 72 Strat in the late 70's. It is the one guitar I own that I would never part with and play almost every day, often unplugged because it just resonates so wonderfully. Most often I play in the middle position also. They are fantastic guitars, only drawback is the feedback, but for jazz or playing at lower volume, they are awesome.

These 330's are wonderful guitars. I came to greatly appreciate them when the DC5 broke, and I saw Lenny Davidson with one; then around 1970-71, a fellow wanted to trade in a two-pickup version and I REALLY came to appreciate them. These are so good for setting on the sofa and wailing away, and the necks are wonderful! And yes, the two PUP versions, should be stereo, to better control the tone balance of the two pickups. Your 335 IS gorgeous; you are quite blessed. It isn't just WHERE the single PUP is located, but also that there is LESS magnetic drag on the strings without that 2nd PUP, which makes the tone so good! BTW: My very first guitar, was a well "used" 1954 Stratocaster that my mother-banished dad gave to me for Christmas of 1963. And be sure to take plenty of the amino acid, LYSINE, to ward off this and all viruses ... it works. Thanks for the great "TONE" workshops.

More people should showcase their guitars like Bob because as we have heard, every guitar has its own unique and special story that needs to be told! Many will know exactly what Bob means about discovering the guitar that sounds, looks, and feels "just right", irrespective of price. Yet for some peculiar reason it still doesn't stop us looking for more! Years ago I played in a band with a guy called Mark who's guitar was a single P-90, cherry SG Junior, a great guitarist who played the hell out this simple vintage Gibson, and never sounded better. Oh, and anything on acoustics and resonators would be welcome.

Excellent video, thanks. I was able to buy an Epiphone E444T Granada a while back, and had the Dan Erlewine shop in Ann Arbor remove the hideous off-white bulky pick guard. They then cut an f-hole symmetric to the existing one, and mounted the pickup in Mahogany. I will never sell it - too many good memories lie within that hollow body.

Complete agreement about the 330 being the ultimate unplugged/around-the-house guitar. So comfy and lightweight, acoustically responsive and the "short" neck is just right. So glad it also excels plugged into a late 1950s Tremolux (or two) and so missing that particular application down at the nightspot with the fellas! I have owned a '59 225 and a '61 330TC; being a full-time player, they come and go... Currently content with a custom shop "59" 330, a quite reasonable facsimile.

Very enjoyable and informative video. I am left-handed so the number of guitars available to me are significantly less than for righties. Although not Vintage, I do have a couple of double pick-up Gibson Memphis ES guitars, a Cherry Red ES-335 (Semi-Hollow), and a Sunburst ES-330 (fully hollow). My next guitar will be a smaller bodied semi-Hollow ES-339 (very rare as a lefty but occasionally one becomes available). I have never seen a lefty fully hollow ES-390 (small body version of the ES-330). Will be interesting to see if Epiphone release a lefty version of the new made in USA Casino. Stay healthy and safe.

Hello Bob , nice surprise this afternoon ! Another lovely selection . I'm interested to know how you keep them so clean looking. Do you use any specific products ,polish ,cloths etc? I'm never sure what's best to use on nitrocellulose laqcuer finishes . On my '52 reissue I use a non silicone furniture polish called Wood Silk & an old clean t-shirt , it's fine it seems and it's not a pristine guitar anyway, but on my Les Paul , should I be using a "proper guitar polish" , microfiber cloth & swirl remover? Cheers 👍
@shaunw9270
@shaunw9270 4 жыл бұрын
@Rockbeare Guitars Thanks for your honesty , worktop cleaner on nitro??!! 😱 Sounds lethal tbh lol. For decades I had only one guitar, a Gibson Marauder which I used silicone rich Mr Sheen polish on without any issues but it was a satin finish & battered so I wasn't too bothered about it's looks. I got into a habit as a teen of always wiping guitars down with an old cotton t-shirt after playing them , with special attention to to neck & fingerboard. When it comes to strings ,I've used Rotosound, Gibson , Ernie Ball, D'adarrio , my preference is nickel 10's . I think some people must sweat more than others because my strings last ages . I can smell them when they need changing before they start not tuning up or actually breaking. I can't be the only guitarist that can smell the metal fatigue ? Cheers 👍

Neither fish, nor fowl, these ES-330's with only a middle pickup are an unusual line of guitars. Have you checked out Gary's cherry red 1960 ES-330TC on Ebay? I lack the boldness to buy something which may be difficult to move in the future, as I rarely use the middle pickup on any guitar with 3 pickups (not to mention the fact that wiring tends to favor blending it with neck or bridge pups).

I own a 1940 Gibson ES150 all original, single pickup at the bridge (one of the early examples of an electric Gibson), hand-carved spruce top, brazilian rw fretboard and bridge, most stable guitar that I own, always stays in tune when I pick it up to play; my question is, why has not Gibson stayed true to the 1940 style design and shape of the ES150, they very rarely appear on the market.

@Rockbeareguitars

Tommy Boyce Perhaps. But I’ve seen them on a lot of guitars. They certainly make sense, spreading the pressure over a wider area. Also transfer some vibration. But you could be right...
@tommyboyce
@tommyboyce 4 жыл бұрын
@@Rockbeareguitars Yeah, they definitely do stabilise the somewhat flimsy bridge posts for sure and give a more solid coupling in vibrational terms. It was my understanding that a lot of players were adding them for the above stated reasons back in the day as opposed to it being a factory thing.

You don’t have to try and explain the “X” factor to us fellow travellers on the guitar journey. Regardless of price or style we have all picked up guitars that just have it. That “X” factor. It isn’t predictable either. My all time favourite electric is a strat and I much prefer single cutaway 2 pickup guitars. It defies logic but the magic is there so I don’t question it. After about 4 decades of playing I just want to enjoy the time I spend playing as much as possible. To all you younger players out there know this: it’s great to collect guitars it’s an amazing hobby but when it comes to playing find a few exceptional pieces rather than a dozen that are so so. I bought and sold dozens to find 3 exceptional electrics and 2 acoustics they are the ones I couldn’t live without. Peace

Lovely. I’ve found that single pickup guitars, especially the five you just presented don’t receive the attention they deserve. My only single pick up guitar is a 56 LP Jr./ P90. IMHO I feel it’s more versatile than some might think until they take one for a test drive.

Nice guitars. I have a special place in my heart for the 330T. The TD is really nice too, though. A bit more versatile, IMO. Especially for modern blues and rock. Although you can't get the same "sweet" tone from them as you can the single pickup. As far as your presentation. I think you are concerned about nothing. You are articulate, knowledgeable, and still quite likeable as well. I think you should play more, though.
