This song should be the poster child for what one may call "easy listening". What a unique tune. How could someone not like it?!
@lindaharbison9567 Жыл бұрын
I never liked the terms "easy listening" or even "soft rock" because they imply the music is devoid of passion or meaning and suited mainly for background sound. Just because it isn't loud or fast doesn't mean it is bland.

The great Pete Carr is on lead guitar, he is one of the Muscle Shoals, AL musicians affectionately referred to as "The Swampers" by Lynard Skynard. Seger recorded a lot music down in Muscle Shoals. I've been to the studio, and though small, incredible music flowed out of it.

Couldn't agree more. Fantastic singer and storyteller. As a teenager Seger definitely influenced how I looked at the world. A lot of today's music is more about presentation and a lot less less about substance, video before voice. Great song from a great artist.
@marlamays2131 Жыл бұрын
I completely agree with everything you said. How do Springsteen & bonjovi get to be called " Storytellers " on axis TV and Bob Seger is not? He is the best American Storyteller and you can't beat the Silver Bullet Band. I've seen them Bob Seger and the sbb twice in my teens and Springsteen 1 time . I don't understand bonjovi? But maybe he was just behind me a few years? I do like the theme for Deadliest Catch. Other than that 1 song. I don't know another Bonjovi song. Once I'd heard how, " The Boss and Bonjovi " hired an organic gardener the other hired a Bee keeper to pay? At that time 20? Years ago to slip past and got to pay $100 & $150 on their property taxes? They lost me forever. I'll keep what I have with my cd's and LP's . I will Never buy anything from either of them again. I don't own Bonjovi, but when the left wing " stars" sold their entire catalogs to SONY . Again, they have skipped out on paying taxes. I'm just disappointed. Bet this, they have a clause in their contacts with SONY that when a republican takes the oval office. They will get their entire catalogs back. It's just a shell game. Just bcz you can, doesn't mean you should. Have a great day. Marla

Yes, a brilliant song, one of the most underrated of all time. The lyrics are so descriptive and clear, and the pace of the song fits the story being told. Bob Seger expresses a rare quality of having a soothing, comforting voice, even when describing a troubling setting or situation. That treasure being similar to the great Van Morrison. We are so fortunate to have these hidden gems of the great artists in our mist.

"Ship Of Fools" "Tell me quick" said Old McFee "What's this all have to do with me?" "I've spent all my time at sea a loner." "Is there something else I should know?" "Something hidden down below the level of your conversation?" Well he turned away before the answer Though I yelled aloud he refused to hear It became to clear So it went as we put out I was left in constant doubt Everything I asked about seemed private The captain strolled the bridge one night I stopped him in the evening light To ask him would it be all right to join him But he stood there like some idol And he listened like some temple And then he turned away All along the fateful coast We moved silent like a ghost The timeless sea of tireless host possessed us The wind came building from the cold northwest And soon the waves began to crest Crashing cross the forward deck All hands lost I alone survived the sinking I alone possessed the tools On that ship of fools

Turning 60 next month, had 3 older siblings that turned me on to music early on, so ironically enough I was familiar with this song before I ended up on a supply boat in the gulf of Mexico, I worked my way up to mate, in a place that didn't really cotton to outsiders infringing on their jobs, if you were not from down on the bayou you were an outsider, so like I said I worked my way up and loved every minute of it, ended up coming back out west, but I remember it like yesterday and have a greater respect and understanding of the song... anyway yes there isn't too many people to talk to about it, they just can't relate too, understandably. But I did just join a group I was invited to all about the life, guy that started it is very knowable and I provides all of the info he can on the boats that he or others post , so it is pretty cool to see the pictures ,and of course the comments

God I wish there was a 7 or 8 minute version of this song. Like, half a dozen extra lyrics. I'm starting to wear out the replay button.
