I hear this song and it's 1971. I'm 17 and making love in a Chevy Impala with the strong, sweet boy who has waited a whole year for me to be ready. It's summertime, and the windows are down. In our secret hiding place out in the country we hold each other tight, so much in love. This night is going to last forever. Then I open my eyes and it's 2024. I'm 70, and that strong, sweet boy, who I never married, has been dead several years. And me, I'm in love with the amazing man still asleep in the bedroom. We have kids and grandkids. It's early morning, and I'm on my phone, wanting just one more song before I have to get up and start my day. Bob Seger comes on. I listen, and remember. Outside the rain is pouring down. And autumn's closing in.

Great recollection Brenda. To a degree, Seger wrote a bit of all our stories. Whenever I hear Seger's Night Moves I can't wait for my favorite lines: "I woke last night to the sound of thunder, how far off I sat and wondered. Starting hummin' a song from 1962. Ain't it funny how the night moves, when you just don't seem to have as much to lose. Strange how the night moves, (favorite line coming) With autumn closing in. I am also 70, in the autumn of my life, and I've had a good life, and this song just brings back so many great memories. I guess that's why it's such a great song.

I was 27 years-old when Bob Seger released, 'Night Moves' in 1976. It hit me like a ton of lead. Brought back so many fond memories of 'the backseat of my '60 Chevy', (actually a '56) and how quickly time goes by. Every young man who grew up in America back then could identify with that song. It's a true classic. George Bernard Shaw once wrote, “Youth is the most precious thing in life; it is too bad it has to be wasted on the young."

Bob Seger is the most under appreciated artist in the entire world. One of my granddaughters is named Paige after, what else, Turn the Page. We love Bob here in Maine.

Paige Turner was the Traffic girl on Channel 2. Do you remember that?
@IlainME_sewcraftyme4 жыл бұрын
Larry B. Sorry no, not familiar. My son has 3 daughters. He was feeling a wee bit outnumbered 😂 so he figured naming her Paige after that song would allow him to tell her when she had a small crisis to just ‘Turn the Page’ and start over. He won’t do that, those girls have him so wrapped around their hearts they will never have to worry about a thing. His name is Larry also, we’re in So. ME.

I was a teenager in the late 70's when this song came out. I completely get what Bob's talking about, and I remember many a make out session with many a girl in the back of my rusted out '73 Javelin. I get a little misty remembering my wayward youth. We WERE just young and restless and bored. Like they say, youth is wasted on the young. You can't get those times back. All you can do is remember.

For real, for all shit we Pittsburghers poke at Detroit, Cleveland and places like that, We often forget that we ARE all "Cut from the same cloth". Bob Seger's (Detroit) music is more relatable to a Pittsburgher than ANYTHING from a New York or EVEN a Philadelphia singer/band. No one here WANTS to admit it, But Pittsburgh is more "Ohio" than "Pennsylvania" And as a Jagoff born on 46th Street in the actual City of Pittsburgh, I'm Okay with that.

How did Seger do this? So very well captured, the days of our youth. "With autumn closing in ... " Today, it's more like, "with winter closing in ... " The only feeling missing in this song is that nagging sense of being drafted, ending in Vietnam. ps, although I did get that feeling, I thought on my own. Maybe he did it afterall? Less is more.
