Bob Vigna is a death metal sith lord the way he wields that guitar on stage and belts out those insane thunderous riffs, moving around like he's possessed by the music! One of the greatest guitar players in metal. Everything he has done with Immolation, every full length, every EP, is a majestic and relentless work of death metal art.

Immolation is metal royalty & Bob Vigna is a one-of-a-kind instrumentalist & composer, simple as. Close to a World Below, the musical equivalent of all-devouring hellfire through unorthodox guitars & collapsing sacral architecture through inhuman drums. The gold standard for drum-centric metal conveying inhuman force. The magnum opus of post-90's evocative, immersive & idiosyncratic metal. Most surreal part of all, still not sure whether said record has either the best drum performance or is the overall best Immolation record of all (competing with Here In After). A streak of genuine stone cold classics is rare & precious feat in extreme metal. Far beyond wishful thinking, but if only cathartic metal milestones of such caliber were still crafted these days. Smilowski- & Hernandez-era Immolation are eternal. (missed opportunity to ask Bob Vigna for band stories during the 90's along with more of his favorite metal bands & releases plus the biggest influences on Immolation)

@MetalSalvation11 ай бұрын
I used to write to this guy a lot back in the mid 90's during that long pause in-between the first and second album. Immolation seemed like a forgotten band at that time but I was still totally into their first album, so I wrote to them not even sure if they were still together or not. One particular letter I got from him I still remember fondly was one where he recommended the band Luciferion to me, and soon after I got the "Demonication" CD and loved it. I had high hopes and expectations for the "Here In After" CD, and even though I wouldn't say I "disliked" it upon hearing it for the first time, it was clear to me that their sound and style was changing. I guess I consider that record to be kind of a bridge between the old Immolation and what they would eventually evolve into being. I did buy the next couple CD's after that, but at some point I realized that this just wasn't quite the same band that I used to love; they had moved on. I respect them for never selling out though, although I must say I always found that logo change to be deplorable and highly suspicious...I kind of wish you had asked him about that - maybe next time??
@BrotherhoodofSteel-zh7ty11 ай бұрын
They've stated in numerous interviews that the only reason why they switched to the plain bold lettering logo was because for the album artwork that they had from "Failures to Gods" up to "Kingdoms of Conspiracy" their original logo would either be too big and would get in the way of the album artwork or it would be so small that the logo would be insignificant. They still used their original logo on their merch though.
@jefflawson357411 ай бұрын
@@MetalSalvation Not sure how the band's intent can be questioned due to the logo change. Failures and Close were as extreme as anything being done in death metal at the time.
@MetalSalvation11 ай бұрын
@@jefflawson3574 Yeah, but why change the logo when logos are such a big part of Death Metal and its magic? I just find the whole thing suspect, or at the very least - peculiar. If it was really about the artwork, then there were other solutions and workarounds that could have been done... Like, why not emboss the logo on the front of the CD case and leave it off the actual cover page? (Like how Immortal did it on their Blizzard Beasts CD case.) That not only would've solved the sizing issue (if one actually existed...), but also would've looked cool as hell.
