Well they did make john the primary lantern in the dcau. They could make Hal more experienced and badass, just not quite at his prime but not super deteriored either. Like he has just gone past his peak but he is still pretty close to peak in performance and as the universe goes on he gradually falls off.

If he becomes Parallax that would be really interesting. This would be a good redemption for him since his experience with Jonah Hex back in 2010 was terrible and he told movie critic Peter Travers if Men In Black III failed that would've been Jonah Hex 2. It's definitely going to be Lethal Weapon in Space meets True Detective meets Training Day with the Green Lanterns. Having a seasoned Green Lantern teaming up with a Rookie that gets the rope shown by a veteran always creates a great storyline with lots of conflicts.

Parallax should be a chapter 2 storyline not a chapter 1 story, it's something that needs to be built up to... not rushed but with this casting choice they need to rush it out since by that time Josh Brolin would almost be 70 really lame, just find someone 20 years younger

My wish was for Jake Gyllenhaal or Jensen Ackles to be Hal, however I like this casting. It has always been pretty clear that John would be the main GL for the universe, and Josh Brolin as Hal really crystalises the mentor role Hal would serve in "Lanterns", especially as a "legend". I understand the concern with the age, however DC wanted a big name for this series and this casting reinforces this. The offer has not and will not diminish or limit my enjoyment for Lanterns.

After thinking about it, it does make sense that Hal & Guy are around the same age, since they became Lanterns around the same time. Was never upset with the actor's skill set but just his age. As Boba said just because in real life he is mid 50's doesn't mean he can't be aged down. A very seasoned Hal being a hero in a world prior to Superman laying the law down on how to be a hero should be interesting. What if he is not vibing with Superman's take on being a hero? And yea Hal is dying in the this first chapter for sure. For what it's worth, I believe this rumor, just because of the co-signing of Jeff. Still hoping for Aaron Pierre as Stewart.

My issue is if they want an older actor for Hal just to sideline him or kill him off then that would be a bad choice. They need all the support they can get and this would make some people very mad. As for Batman not being in The Penguin series I get what the focus is on but even just him on a roof or watching Oz towards the end of the series is an easy way to do it while stressing the fear of criminals.

What id like to see (just my preference) is the way the criminals are so paranoid at the beginning of the movie about Batman appearing from the darkness. In the original Post Crisis on Infinite Earths DCU comics, in the Emerald Dawn miniseries, Hal recalls knowing Metahumans operated in the Justice Society in the 40s. And says he’s the FIRST known “superhero” since - before Superman or anyone else. This miniseries was plotted by Keith Giffen, who Gunn clearly has an affinity for… So maybe here, they’re thinking of doing something similar? He’s the first publicly KNOWN Metahuman to pop up in the DCU. He was already an experienced pilot when he got the ring. So maybe 35-40, and he’s had it for 15 years?

Brolin is awesome and was at one point my choice for Batman but he’s way too old for Hal and given his more serious disposition and age tells me they’re either going for the dying mentor, Woody Harrelson’s bitter veteran in True Detective or fallen hero “Parallax”. If it’s the latter, then I’m done with this universe. It was a mistake to forcefully make Hal a villain then and it’s still a mistake now. I don't have a problem with Pattinson not appearing himself in the show. In fact I'd feel it was a crutch if they put him in there prominently, he'd totally steal the show. I will, however, be very disappointed if he's never even referenced, or if he's only reference in relation to the events of the movie. Even if it's only like a group of mobsters having a conversation about how they're going to pull off their operation without the Batman causing trouble when Oz walks in on them. I personally don't mind at all if the Batman isn't in The Penguin. Naturally it would be cool. But what my favourite thing about the first movie (among tons of qualites obviously) is the way Reeves created such a cohesive world. In this world honesly no actor or character stood out leaps above the rest. It all just blends together in such a natural way and i never think about the actors behind the characters. Because i am so immersed in the whole experience and this version of Gotham. Which i believe speaks to how great Reeves is at collaborative work with eveyone on set and in post production. I just want to know as many new characters as pssible and the casting for The Penguin seems effing immaculate.

I understand this choice, but I wish DC would stop casting too old from the get go with these key roles. Considering the casting for Hal and his LEGENDARY Green Lantern status, the "ancient" horror or whatever could actually be Paralax and we're probably going to have Paralax Hal Jordan as the big bad of DCU part 1. Why else would Gunn introduce the Green Lantern corps so early on. Him being at his prime already implies that Sinestro and the Yellow Lanterns exist and so on. Guy and Hal will probably belong to the previous generation of heroes, by that I mean Superman and John Stewart probably were kids when these guys were already super heroes. So the JL with Superman will probably not include Hal and Guy, they may die or do their own thing (by they, I mean Guy since if my belief is correct, Hal might die with Paralax or something). Kyle might also exist since the Robins and Wally seem to be a thing in the DCU, so the next generation of Super heroes (titans, if you will) seems promising and more organic with how they are introduced unlike how the MCU is pulling "other" versions of the Avengers out their a** 😂

I get the desire to see that, but I think the idea behind it is that we've seen two different cinematic universes over the past 10+ years go from origin's/first installments to sequels to what not and I don't think Gunn wants to repeat that formula/approach, and I honestly don't blame him. It's quite interesting starting off with a DCU that has a history. I wouldn't call a potential Batman being 36-38 as old either. Hal, fair enough.

It makes sense to me starting the DCU with older heroes so that they can pass the mantle sooner. Older Hal and Guy pass the mantle to John, older Barry passes the mantle to Wally, older Bruce passes the mantle to Dick and all of a sudden Gunn's love of using less well known characters is an obvious vision that everyone can get behind.

More importantly about The Batman not being in The Penguin. Remember this is part of a larger story. Maybe a story about Gotham. This is our tie-in to the larger story. It's going to be amazing.

Is it still comic canon that Hal and Guy were both considered by Abin Sur's ring, but Hal was closer so he got first dibs hehehe? I could see that being the back story here and that would be why they are both "older," while John is new and young.

This means that Hal Jordan will not be the main GL for DCU. I strongly think Gunn is looking for the Justice League animated series lineup wherein GL is John Stewart and Flash is Wally West

Josh Brolin is an incredible actor, but I wanted an actor who is at least 36 years old. I want the actor to play the character for a substantial amount of time because the energy that a person has in their 30s compared to their 50s is a massive difference.

Re The Lanters: what if Jon Stewert becomes Green Lantern because the Green Lantern of Eartb has died and he's ordered to investigate and he confirms that Hal Jordan is dead. Then Hal Jordan shows up to say "who the hell are you,"

Also Bobba skipping straight to Wally is such a big mistake! You can't do Wally without having Barry Allen as flash first or in some flashback scene no pun intended. Or some sort of capacity as Barry is his father! If they have Wally they gonna have to have a scene showing his Origins of his powers and his early life as otherwise you lose the entire foundation of the flash character!

i don’t even think Hal will make it out of season 1 alive. and i never have, when they announced a veteran Hal Jordan this is always what i thought. i think Parallax is a safe bet, and maybe Parallax possesses John and Hal sacrifices himself to save John or something along those lines

I’m getting a little exhausted with Gunn’s casting choices. Not because I don’t think the choices fit the role but because we’re just recasting marvel as dc, I’d love to see no name actors/actresses take on iconic characters.
