1989 was among the prime years in james brown sampling and the golden age of hip hop. its great that the jb horns,bobby byrd, and the funky divas were able to tour on the original funky people jams that were diehard jb fan collectors items. maceo had quite the jazz career at the time ,while fred and pee wee were both frontmen and directors in james' original bands and funk phase.

James tried to use physcology on Bobby, saying that he couldn't pack a house on his own. He tried to hurt Bobby , to try to keep him subservient to HIM. This house looks pretty packed out to ME !!! Besides, If Bobby was as non-talented as James CLAIMED, then WHY IS IT that , every time Bobby left James kept BEGGING HIM TO COME BACK ?? Plus while you're thinking about THAT , CONSIDER THIS: why did all of the Classic JB Bandmembers leave Brown and jump ship with BOBBY ? (Think about it) .

Saw Bobby Byrd way back in 1966 (when with The Famous Flames) doing solo warmup set for James Brown. Best rendition of "Got My Mo-Jo Workin" I ever heard...Maybe even better than Jimi Smith or Muddy Waters version. Sure wish JB would have given him his just due.

If it wasn't for BOBBY BYRD and The Famous Flames, there wouldn't even BE a "James Brown". He would've still been rotting away in prison on a 16 year stretch for a robbery charge. It was BOBBY'S family who actually SPONSORED Brown's release, took him into their home, and secured employment for him . Bobby put him in his singing group , The Flames, and moved him to the position of Lead Singer...and the rest is HISTORY !!

James Brown's Band was ALWAYS more LOYAL to Bobby than to James, because Bobby was a nicer person , and James was a hard taskmaster . Why do you think that they're all here with BOBBY ?? It's too bad that Bobby couldn't get the other members of the mighty Famous Flames back together to do the shows with him and the band .Bobby Byrd, Bobby Bennett, Johnny Terry , and "Baby Lloyd" Stallworth were a phenomenal vocal group .
@williamg25525 жыл бұрын
BOBBY BYRD was posthumously inducted into THE ROCK and ROLL HALL of FAME in 2012 as a member of the singing group, THE FAMOUS FLAMES , along with the OTHER Flames members, BOBBY BENNETT (who accepted on behalf of the group) , *JOHNNY TERRY, and LLOYD "Baby Lloyd" STALLWORTH*. This was an AUTOMATIC INDUCTION, done without the usual process of nomination and voting, under the premise that The FLAMES should have been inducted with lead singer JAMES BROWN back in 1986. (The James Brown Band/JB's, a SEPARATE GROUP from the Famous Flames, were nominated, but NOT inducted , in 2015) . facebook.com/thefamousflamesbysandibennett/

Looks like , while James Brown ended up with the generic Soul Generals, all of his original bandmembers ended up jumping ship with Bobby Byrd !! Maybe THEY liked BOBBY better !! Too bad the Famous Flames (Johnny Terry, Bobby Bennett, and Lloyd Stallworth) didn't join him TOO !!

I agree, this band sounds funkier than a lot of James’ later bands
@josephellis669711 ай бұрын
This is not the case JB had Maceo, Fred and St.clair in 1988, but you know what happened to him that year, so the three ended up performing with Bobby but it was a one year thing. It was not that long. Indeed they sounded good, but James Brown still got a good band later on!
