2013 Soul Train Awards. Many of the audience members didn't know Bobby Caldwell is white. It's fun to watch their reactions and then see them all enjoying the performance. Credit to Tony McCuin for the original upload.

Forget black, white or whatever....this man is one of the greatest singers, composers, producers, song writers ever! I was introduced to Bobby Caldwell when I was a little boy by my dad. His body of work is nothing short of amazing. He is a great musician as well. He wrote a song about sending a loved one to an assisted living/nursing home with elegance and beauty...that's Stevie level stuff. He's incredible.

Don't forget the he's White. The fun part is that he sounds Black. Ever since the 70s, I've thought that he was Black, so it's surprising, in a fun way, to see that he's White. ✌🏽

ABC reported that What You Won't Do for Love was sampled by over 100 artists! Mr. Caldwell got his professional break playing guitar in Little Richard's band in the early 70's went solo and wrote songs for Roberta Flack and Neil Diamond. He passed in his wife's arms...how sweet. Rest in Peace blue-eyed R&B maestro.

Yep! I remember when this first came out. He went on tour with Natalie Cole. The record executives did not put his face on the album's cover, because their goal was to see if it would sell in the urban black setting. People loved the song. They just didn't know he was white. Even this new generation is loving this. And unless their parents told them, they didn't know either.

So true. So many young performers got their start in his band. If you listen to 94.7 The Wave Radio station, most of the successful solo artists started their music career in his band. I have seen him twice and his voice is as good in person as it is in recordings. Plus, i met him after a gig and what a nice guy too. I'm a big fan of Bobby Caldwell. He is a super talented guy: composer, songwriter, singer, and plays several instruments. The Real Deal! We need more quality like this in 2021. 🎵👏🎶🎹👍👍

I'm from Brazil. I have never listened to this song till yesterday, when a youtuber posted a funny video with this playing on the back. I HAD TO FULLY LISTEN TO IT CAUSE IT WAS SOOO GOOD, and I instantly imagined a black man singing it. When I found out he was white I was shocked and now am trapped just watching people's reactions finding out he's not black hahaha omg, this is amazing!!! 😂😂😂 And now I'm sad to find out he just passed this year... damn.. Man, what a voice AND SOUL you had! I mean, you still have it cause I bet you're still out there, somewhere, shining your beautiful soul through your beautiful voice! I'M ADDICTED TO THIS SONG, I CAN'T STOP PLAYING IT AND I'LL DEFINITELY LISTEN TO HIS FULL ALBUMS! ❤❤❤
