Bobby Moore OBE was an English professional footballer. He most notably played for West Ham United, captaining the club for more than ten years, and was the captain of the England national team that won the 1966 FIFA World Cup. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders in the history of football.

My birth name is Robert Moore . Way back in 1967 when I was 12 my team (Swindon) played West Ham in the FA Cup . My Dad wrote to West Ham asking if I could meet my idol . He didn`t really expect any reply so was really surprised when we got a letter from West Ham saying be at the main entrance at 2pm . In we went and Ron Greenwood met us and took us into the dressing room to meet the great man. Bobby Moore couldn`t have been nicer to me and introduced me as Bobby Moore to the rest of the team ( including Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst) . I had my leg pulled when a couple of the players said " Blimey you`ve shrunk since the last game". I asked Bobby for an autograph and he signed my book "from one Bobby Moore to another". I must admit I was absolutely starstruck and could barely say anything but Bobby Moore was such a kind man and put me at ease as he introduced me to the other players. A day I have never forgotten.

iNce to see you Andy I always like it when I see you're double hundred at the end. Not sure what it means but it looks good. Yes, he was a great guy. It's a shame it wasn't her most splendid stone but never mind. I'm sure that's will send him their thoughts. All the best, Alan

When footballers knew how to play football. Before my time, but apparently they used to have a pie & a pint & get on the pitch

Top player. Didn't roll around like the babies do today. Never understood why he wasn't knighted.

I’m no big footie fan, just every 4 years when England is in it, but I appreciate what ‘66 meant, and the team. Just want to win again so we don’t have to keep on about 1966! Knowing how important it was, you would think flowers would be in abundance. They think it’s all over!

It'll be great not having '66 as our only success but even so the current crop even though they may be fitter just don't have the charisma or style of the old gang.

@@shirleyn546 We've got the world Cup starting next month and we all know that the award of this and the previous one in Russia was due to back handers so now I don't have even the remotest interest it.

He led the England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 team to immortality. The team that won the World Cup for England gave me, and many others a pride and belief in our country and ourselves. I was in Wembley that marvellous day and grew up there. Nothing compares to the feeling of that day. We are slowly losing the players from that day, and I hope they know how much they are cherished. Geoff Hurst and all. Before “we think it’s all over”. It will be soon.
