Bobby Rydell had an amazing voice. I've always liked this song and his other big hit "Volare". Everytime I hear either song it brings back memories from my childhood. Thanks for sharing ♥

Thanks for listening, Rick! I can't seem to upload "Volare" by Bobby Rydell, which I did a LONG time ago, and have it show. KZbin hides it so no on can view it. Same with John Lennon "Just Like Starting Over." That one is up, but you would never know it ... YT has hidden it. If I put a link up to it you get "This video is not available" or something like that. Only two videos like that. Unless things have changed, may try them again, but doubt it will matter.

I'll never understand why this song wasn't more popular. Best of all his hits by far next to volare

I agree, and actually according to chart action, it was very popular, but stalled at #5 for two weeks on its way up on January 11 and January 18, 1964. "Louie, Louie" by The Kingsmen, "There I Said It Again" by Bobby Vinton, "Popsicles and Icicles" by The Murmaids, and "Surfin' Bird" by The Trashmen were slowing the progress of Rydell's song, however I think since three of these were moving down, it would have broken through to the top the following week. Unfortunately, that following week, "I Want To Hold Your Hand" by The Beatles jumped from #43 to #1, and for the next three months or so the band would hold the top position and eventually all top 5 positions. Leslie Gore's "You Don't Own Me" and "Anyone Who Had A Heart" by Dionne Warwick were also nearing the top, but never made it thanks to the Fab Four.

I agree. In my book he was right up there with Bobby Darin. Great vocalist, with a lot of style.

Thanks for sharing, Pat! As it turns out, this was Bobby Rydell's final hit too, although not for the same reasons.

Much better than Volare.

A more mature romantic melody, Rydells' Volare being a pop cover of Domenico Modugno's classic, missing some verses too. It was good pop though, but I like this a lot better. And this was Bobby's last AND his BEST. I guess he figured The Beatles would block any future successes forever. They sure managed to impair Leslie Gore's ... and she went over to England in summer '63 and visited them and I think did a few gigs opening at some of their concerts. A lot of US performers went over there thinking the British Invasion would give their own careers a boost. Del Shannon even wrote a song for them, I think it was him. Anyways, just the opposite happened. Still, in a way, the early British Invasion was a kind of victory for the US as many of the bands were imitating the Buddy Holly and the Crickets sound. Kind of makes one wonder where rock music would have gone if Buddy hadn't died in 1959. Bobby Rydell went on to star in some TV shows after 1963 and only when oldies became popular did he return to appearing live and performing his hits.
