Instead of a lot of over criticism of the nature of a performance. I'd rather focus on the point of the video. Bobby loved Jerry. Jerry was like a big brother to Bobby. We all miss and love Jerry. Things are different without him, but that is life. Things must change. They don't always have to get worse but we must let them change and see how we can make the best out of what is missing and eventually find out learn how we ought to be, our role, within this change. This is positive and healthy.

Bob has achieved the goal of many a wise man He cares not for glory or honor recognition and fame He cares only to be To be where he is when he is doing what he is He has achieved satori He lives For himself at that very moment ... and to be hanging on haight playing in the band He always smiles on cloudy days ... he had lived a thousand remarkable lifetimes in his time here and acts as if he has done nothing special I think that my friends we must learn

Bobby Weir had a learning disability, dislexia or something, but always knew he was as smart as anyone else. He worked hard to get to where he could play as he does. He has always had a different outlook on things, and has said it. I have admired him hugely for this for almost 50 years - it has helped me with being different, myself. And of course, nothing can help others deal with you if you're different - ya gotta just WATCH OUT! PS - It helps if you can play the guitar.

Standing on the moon I got no cobweb on my shoe Standing on the moon I'm feeling so alone and blue I see the gulf of Mexico As tiny as a tear The coast of California Must be somewhere over here, over here Standing on the moon I see the battle rage below Standing on the moon I see the soldiers come and go There's a metal flag beside me Someone planted long ago Old glory standing stiffly Crimson, white and indigo, indigo I see all of southeast Asia I can see El Salvador I hear the cries of children And the other songs of war It's like a mighty melody That rings down from the sky Standing here upon the moon I watch it all roll by, all roll by Standing on the moon With nothing else to do A lovely view of heaven But I'd rather be with you Standing on the moon I see a shadow on the sun Standing on the moon The stars go fading one by one I hear a cry of victory And another of defeat A scrap of age old lullaby Down some forgotten street Standing on the moon Where talk is cheap and vision true Standing on the moon But I would rather be with you Somewhere in San Francisco On a back porch in July Just looking up to heaven At this crescent in the sky Standing on the moon With nothing left to do A lovely view of heaven But I'd rather be with you, be with you

I'm 23...the dead have been my all time favorite band since I was 12 years old. I've gotten the opportunity to see furthur, dead and company, Melvin and the JGB, and several tribute bands. I'm thankful to have seen some of original members. The music and the scene mean the world to me. Sometimes I watch stuff like this and feel sad...sad that I missed the magical years, Jerry, and also sad to know I will most definitely see the day these guys all pass... Thinking about Bobby passing away (or Phil, Mickey, and Billy) feels as sad as a family member passing as these guys got me through all the stages and changes that have taken place in my life. Forever grateful. (~):}

Young soul - after reading your heartfelt post, my conclusion is that you didn't miss anything ... You have it all inside you, and your challenge is to keep moving forward and bringing it to life. The most basic message of the Dead's music is just this - "Once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right." Keep orienting yourself towards the essential truths you find (and will continue to find) in your music. Look for, search for, and express your higher consciousness (in a healthy way hopefully) and go for the joy in life.

Hey bob, you guys were legendary, I’m only 30, I listen to you guys. I find it painful to see no one came to fill your shoes. I can’t relate to the new stuff, that magic, the soul, I can’t stop listening to so many roads, I drive a truck in the oilfield and it made me cry. It was like a gift to me.

Nobody can fill Bobby & Jerry’s shoes... but I humbly think John Mayer and Oteil (and obv Jeff) are walking in the footsteps laid by the Grateful Dead. D&C has many moments that I feel capture the essence of the music. And if you get the chance, take a trip to SF to check out Terrapin Crossroads, Phil’s son delivers some outstanding music along w the TFB. ✌🏻

Jerry Garcia RIP in psychedelic dreams with a ten finger credit instead of a five or four finger discount. Weir have you played recently with kingfish, the midnight's, your solo stuff is good too. It's so easy to slip and let your mind slip into nothing at all. Ressurect the dead.

Saw it at my first show 4/1/95 in a huge glass pyramid on the banks of the mighty Mississippi, and frankly I've never had feelings one way or another for it. I don't seek it out never have had much interest in it but if it's on a tape I will rock out to it. And why IS this the discussion. This isn't a performance we should be rating. Bob sounds like he's in so much pain when he's singing reflecting inside on Jerry. Shame on us.

There wasn't a modern war in Southeast Asia when Hunter wrote it either hadn't been for about 15 yrs. They really need to stop changing lyrics at will adding verses etc. Unless it was the Pig, or Brent, just sing the words right damn stop trying to improve them.

I can only hear Jerry singing this. I worked for him. I’ve met bobby. Bob was genuine and nice to me when he could’ve been a prima Donna . But his singing got worse and worse from this point. He just needs to sing and not try to intonate. Sometimes he just talks the words. It’s so off. He was never meant to be a front man. I love him. It’s not bad to talk about the elephant. My brothers and sisters were not bothered by it and so they got more years of magic. I’m like tucker, the greatful dead are in my heart. And that means Jerry. My spirit and heart were and are related to Jerry.

Do certain drugs make the nasty psyches that seem to always arrive among these numerous Dead posts? Those that say they loved Jerry and the band is nothing without him? Those appear to be the people who magnetized into the scene out of a need to find a community where they mattered and were accepted. Bad souls, lonely, self loathing and far from loving. Thus, maybe the furthest from Jerry after all. Absent an understanding of what it all means. Let your life proceed by it’s own design. Done with mine.

Anything after Jerry is like a flat bottle of soda pop. This looks like a show in West Virginia I was at years ago. So lame... Rat dog, the dead, dac..etc.. c'mon bobby, get the lyrics right. I remember the last performance of this song in Ohio, Jerry was so weak and sick and I knew he was on the way out, you could just feel it but it kills this crappy version even so.

Steven Tracy you're the worst kinda of fan, the grateful dead made the music together! You ever heard Jerry by himself? Not like the band at all! Plus, what should the rest of them do, sit around and die! No, they jam, that's what they do! Stop leaving your negative vibes out there, you ever heard of nothing good to say, then shut the fuck up? Try it. Love you!

Your comment is really shitty on a couple different levels. But, there is/was only one Jerry obviously, but the music goes on. If you didn't enjoy a certain concert or whatnot, so be it, but there's no need to be a fuckin killjoy about everything post-Jerry. There is a ton of good Dead music being played every day somewhere around the world. Sadly, Jerry is not performing in any of it, but that doesn't mean it all sucks. Get on with enjoying the music that still remains, dude.

Accept the music and what it gives you. Better or worse should not enter the equation on the level we are at. Jerry and the dead accept the end of time -- do not belittle or bemoan it. Each show captured a little or a lot.

Brandon Cupp "you're the worst kinda of fan.." then you say "Stop leaving your negative vibes out there, you ever heard of nothing good to say, then shut the fuck up? Try it." What vibes are left out there when you call someone the worst? Wheres the "good" part of your statement? More from the do as I say not as I do crowd. Heed your own advice and shut the fuck up. Youre doing exactly what you are whining about. Classic.

And then you do the same orecoast1, haha. Classic. How about this? God bless you Brandon Cupp, Steven Tracy, orecoast1. Have a great day bros. Hope to meet you at the Dead and Company show at Dodger stadium next month. I'm not the hugging strangers type, but always got a handshake for another dude. If you get rude, take it somewhere else dude. If you wanna be cool and just groove, scoot over a little please, cause I'll need some room to boogie too. That is all. Signing out. Mark aka Geronimo. From the new band, Mark and The True Believers. Be on the lookout for our new CD, Faith In These Times. Cause you gotta believe in something.

He wanders away from the mic after the first verse, and blows the second verse. His phrasing is odd, and doesn't improve the song. There are probably 10 better versions of this song sung by Jerry.

"American Idol"? arent you judging as well? (Weir does it great) That means YOU ought to sign up as well. Good burn, too bad it applies to you too. "Who cares that you think that Jerry did it better?" Good one. But wait who cares that you think Weir does it great? Does it hurt when you bite your own tail puppy dog? (pro tip: if I can use your same arguement against you then its not a good arguement) "Let the politicians throw the stones. Who cares that you think ..." So you must be a politician now.

If anything he's keeping it alive. It's cool because the younger generations can tune in and get the opportunity to learn the Grateful Dead's songs. By Bobby still playing it can only enlighten the people that never got a chance to see the Grateful Dead. Nothing can destroy the legacy of the Grateful Dead. That will forever remain untouched.

@@brianfrickinmeehar8650 I heard Bill talking at the end of the Fare Thee Well shows. He made a great point- This the end of this one version of the GD, the music will continue with other versions.Exactly- Let songs fill the air!

Yup! That's all they've been doing since Jerry died is going through metamorphosis but the foundation has always been the songs of the Grateful Dead. "All the years combine!"

hiraldo mcgoo We're each entitled to our opinions, it just seemed to me that Jerry's voice and singing went rapidly downhill after 1981. I saw Jerry sing when he was great and when he was awful, I just liked it a lot better back in the day.
