Bobcat S series S185 fuel solenoid and relay trouble shooting Diesel shut off

How to diagnose if it is the solenoid or relay in a bobcat s 185.

I had this happen on a gahl sl4625. I could not figure out what was going on. Now that I know about the relay that answers all my problems. Thank you for you help and keep up the great work.

Good to know it is not unique to Bobcat. I bought a new solenoid and all I needed was a relay. I try to do a video on every problem I solve by myself. A few minutes making a video can save hundreds of dollars of shop time.

THANKS, you saved me from buying a solenoid valve, but we ended up finding out that it was the fuse by the relay. Our bobcat is the model 753, it does not have a fuse box, it has fuses all over the place.

I did not know they had no box. Upgrade to a 185 mode. Bobcat is always ahead of the rest for technology. I am looking for a Bobcat tractor to add to my arsenal.

My Bobcat was stolen and never recovered so I can't look. To my recollection it went to the fuel solenoid on the back side of the motor.

I switched out relays, no issue. I did the test with key on, solenoid would not stay in! It’s my fuel shut off solenoid? Please!

Probably the solenoid but it could be other wiring issues. I think a solenoid is cheap enough if you buy aftermarket, it is worth the try. However, I would lift the cab and locate the rubber cover behind the relay box and push in on the back of the fuel relay to make sure it it still plugged into the box. These relays connections come lose on the back side of the relay box occasionally. Good luck. No more S185 videos for me, mine was stolen. I suggest a GPS locator or replacement value coverage. A hidden power cut off switch is good too.

@@iowaunemployment thank you for your input. In the end, I over diagnosed it! 12.2 volts for resting battery. The glo indicator did the count down but the arm never ticked up to prove it. Not enough voltage to test the solenoid so yes, it would fail. The battery is less than a year old but turns out , it’s shot. I feel foolish for not examining it further first. Thank you. Stolen cat....OMG! That’s awful, I’m so sorry.
