Maybe Mel and Charlie did go to the other world and saw themselves become really successful in their writing, but they left and cannot find a way back, so that's why they are so frustrated and working so hard is because they want that dream again. And maybe when Coraline is their they do find their way back but they get stuck.

I think the dropping popcorn is just excitement on Coraline's part but the fact other Mr B doesn’t call her out might be a "No rules here - do what you like, kids!" Ala Pleasure Island from Pinocchio.

The last ten seconds of the scene give off major "Wizard of Oz" vibes to me. Like when Dorothy wakes up from her "dream" about Oz to find Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, and the real-life counterparts of Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, and even the Wizard, all looking on in concern for her, glad she's come to after her accident during the tornado, and saying how they were afraid she'd perhaps died. It's very creepy seeing it kinda photo-nagative reversed here in Coraline, especially given the subconscious visual similarities (bright, technicolor Oz fading into sepia-toned Kansas). And I just remember the quotes from Dorothy, like... "I remember that some of it wasn't very nice... but most of it was beautiful!" Is that not the tone we get from the Other World, looking through eyes that can see the signs of something darker behind those button eyes?

One thing that I just noticed is the Other Wybie's gloves. They are completely black. The real Wybie's gloves have a skeleton design on it. Kind of a weird connection, but maybe it was super subtle foreshadowing for the Other Mother's hand escaping into the "real world". I'm only making this connection because we never see the hand move on it's own in the Other world. We only see the hand move on it's own in the "Real World". Also, a point on the moon. I always thought of it as a timer. It starts off as a new moon, and then progresses through all of these moon phases in such a short amount of time. Not to mention that once the moon is full, the button shadow moves across it. Even though the shadow is just a huge button, maybe we can think of it as the timer being reset, especially with how the shadow moves. The button shadow moves backwards. Normally, the moon phases move in one direction, left to right. However, the button shadow moves right to left, like the timer is being rewound. I'm not sure if you've gone over these points before, but I just wanted to share my findings.

Oh my gosh you are so much more knowledgable on moon phases than I am! I tried to briefly look into them and essentially got myself more confused! But, that's not a bad idea that the moon is a timer, and maybe Coraline has to get out each night by the time the moon is completely shaded. There's definitely something there with that moon! And, I hadn't noticed the gloves are different! But as soon as you mentioned the skeleton hands I was like "you're right!" Great eye on that one - there are so many tiny details to make Wybie seem creepy and Other Wybie seem like a good, trustworthy guy, and the Other Wybie not having bones on his clothes is definitely more refined/less creepy!

To me, I saw the solid black gloves as a subtle attempt from the Other Mother to make him seem more presentable and approachable. She also didn't recreate his motorcycle or his mask, so I'd imagine his skeleton gloves were also replaced for that reason. Like how some people consider certain clothing styles as "bad affiliation," the Other Mother might have had a similar idea.

When Coroline is throwing the food around and your curiosity over why she would act in such a way. Immediately brought me to think about Pinocchio and when he's at the island with no rules and when he acts like a donkey he turns into one with the rest of the kids. Just like how the other mother wants Coroline to be like them and get the buttons sown into her eyes. Probably not on purpose but was where my wondered to

When you mentioned the Other Father being too eager to eat, it made me think of him being that weird pumpkin blob…which I assume is his usual form. I’m sure the Other Mother uses him to play OF over and over again, and when he’s a blob he’s short on food, or doesn’t need to eat? but when the OM turns him into a human to play whatever kids dad, he’s excited to actually get to eat real food. Especially since they don’t know how long they’ll have to wait for their next kid to come along. Love your videos and congrats on the engagement ❤

about the other fatyher's relationship w food: i think its because its his only source of joy. its the only thing that makes him genuinely happy. so I'm not surprised that he's eating as much as he can when the other mother is being nice to him (for once) because shes around coraline. i doupt shes that nice to him when its just the two of them.

Love your videos. You mention that the other father is a vegetable and it would make more sense for him to be thirsty all the time then hungry. But that got me thinking if the well is a portal to the other world what if all the food in the other world is just water (from the well?) that the other mother used her magic on to make it look and taste like food. Think of it kind of like the food in cloudy with a change of meatballs. We don’t actually know where the other mother gets the food she gives Coraline or what it was originally before magic was used on it and water could be the one abundant resource she has. If the food is really water that explains why the other father is always eating and no one else does because he must need the hydration but none of the other characters do for example other wybie because he’s made of saw dust

Intresting factor might be. Other Wybie does not even open his mouth once before the other mother puts the string in his cheeks. His lips are compleately closed. The other father also seems to be fine eating, so he is somehow diffrient then other mother and Wybie.

I think the reason Coraline acts so rude and reckless it’s because she believes she is having a very realistic and weird dream. She can taste food and feel tickles but everything is so wonderful that her brain tells hers it must not be real. That’s my theory 😅

Coraline is now trapped in the other world forever now because she did eat the food of her own accord , This is why the other mother is always trying to get her to eat the food without saying as it needs to fully be her own choice.

Prior to Coraline and her family moving into the pink Palace the ghost girl doll was still in Wybie's Grabdma's possesion. It's possible that the Other Mother used this doll to snoop the other residents' before making the Coraline doll. That's probably how the Other Mother knows the layout of Mr. Bobinsky's apartment for the circus attraction.

As a theatre nerd I have to point out something I heard in scene 11. First off it was bad luck to wear green in you dressing room. Also don’t mention the Scottish Play which is a nickname for the Shakespeare play Macbeth.

Before the era of TV, the circus was a big treat for kids. I like how retro the Other world is.

I assume the other father is always eating because it is a novel sensation for him. As a pumpkin, he only drank water through his roots and photosynthesized. Having a mouth with the ability to speak and sing and eat is a wonderous new sensation for him, so he can't get enough of it. I think the Beldam allows this around Coraline because this human like behavior helps to mask her inhuman behaviors.

I want to offer a bit of a counter to your theory ❤ I think there IS an interaction between the delivery guy and Ms sphink in the beginning of the movie (though extremely subtle.) And Coraline does say to her mom later on in the film that she “said they were ding bats” which implies the jones parens had some interaction before hand albeit off screen. What if, the other tenants WERE hand picked to be there, but not as sources of food or sacrifices to stave off the bedlam. What if they were originally picked to live there, in order to try to ward off the beldam? Ms sphink and Ms forcible are extremely superstitious and even created a utensil that could see truth in the beldams world. And Mr bobinskys mice can travel into the beldams world and report back to him warnings (almost like Mr Doolittle if he were working with Russian espionage mice spies)

I still personally think the Dad eating the food is to reinforce the idea of the food being safe and good to eat. She was skeptical of the food when she had the first meal and everything since that the other father has provided near constant reassurance of "Hey I trust the food and am eating it. See it's safe to eat. You're safe."

I never thought about Coralines parents going to the other world, but that makes sense! Maybe they saw themselves being successful writers, or maybe the garden made such an impact on them that when they were desperate for writing ideas, they defaulted to gardening for inspiration. Love the video!

The other father eating might be that he is based on organic matter. As we know, his 'puppet' is made of pumpkin. But the other mother is made from scrap metal and bone, and other Wybie is made from sand. Therefor they might not have the same cravings.

And it can't be mell because she doesn't recognize it and so it would have to be Charlie but then why was it wall appeared over?

The Fangirl You should do a video on how the Blue Reflection Ray Anime, and the Blue Reflection games are similar to Sailor Moon and Madoka Magica. It's a mixture between Final Fantasy and Persona mixed together with Sailor Moon. I highly recommend you to check out this game and Anime series.

With the other father being made from a vegetable, then him needing to eat unlike the others would be explained if they are made from something else like clay or wood or dolls. The eating could part could be a "plant food" like thing. Like fertilizer or pellets that you can buy for flowers to help them grow. As for the snap dragons, what if them being living is caused by the souls of other victims of the other mother/beldam. Any left over emotion that they feel after they die would transfer to the plant giving it life. This would also give the bedlam as back up food source when there is no kids for years. I feel like this could help explain how the flowers are alive and how the bedlam can make so much detail after not having a child r feed off of for decades. These re just theories and u haven't had a chance to read the book so I don't know if itgivrmes anything to help explain this. But this idea just popped into my head while watching.

I mean if the well the key got thrown into is a portal (which is one of the only theories I believe), they could make a second one and explain the Beldams survival by her tricking Bobinski or one of the old women who is sad after the others death. And by saying Coraline convinced her parents to move away from the place they could make it seem like the Beldam didn’t have to survive that long.
