The first time I saw McCoy live - in Boston at the Jazz Workshop back during the early 70's - I was stunned at the intensity. The grand piano was literally shuddering from the sheer ferocity of McCoy's playing. I could only imagine what it was like to have been raised in the fiery, richly expressive musical environment created with John Coltrane at the helm during the era of the greatest quartet to ever grace the jazz world. This is just a memorable glimpse... Enjoy!

McCoy Tyer's music is pure spirituality, without limits, it's about giving oneself, it's what comes out from inside, what he did until the last even when, his health did not support him and his right hand had almost abandoned him, he still had the same spirit, that spirit that can only reach people who perceive him with an organ other than the brain.

Ace comment Klaus!.. I won't forget finding this on BBC randomly! It is music at it's best and what a performance this was! A great memory of inspiring jazz music and good times at number 27.

It is such a heart-warming pleasure to see McCoy smile (See 0:52 in particular) in midst of spinning his magical and superb musical web with his long time friend and master vibraphonist, Bobby Hutcherson. The sizzling and intense live album made by those two back in the 70's was just 'pure bliss' and now even McCoy has to just smile warmly as they again unearth and polish this amazing gem. Much love... and really priceless!

@Parvenu333 You appear to be very familiar with Moffett's playing! i only ever saw him live once - when he came to Montreux in 1991 with Dave Sandborne and Kenny Kirkland(I was on the production staff of there for 10 years) and I don't remember the gig (I'm not really a Sandborne fan) . I think Moffett plays more than adequately in this concert with Tyner and Hutcherson... and I wouldn't like to comment any further on his playing until I've listened to more of his recorded work.

@Parvenu333 Well I certainly agree with you about Tyner. I think when it comes to bass players in this situation they are clearly in a supportive role (if you see what I mean) but this is an art in itself surely? I felt the same way about Jimmy Garrison with Trane (he's the fourth member of the quartet no-one ever mentions!) Let me put it this way - Jacko couldn't have hacked the gig for me. I believe Garrison played what Trane wanted to hear - which makes him a truly great player .. surely?

@Parvenu333 He seems to be organizing sound in this context very well I view music from the point of view of creativity (or style) so the emergence of the individual is key to me. I have an MA in music so I appreciate that (say) Mike Brecker is a really excellent saxophone player (but I couldn't really tell you what that actually meant) however from my point of view though he is certainly not a Jazz Great. Which could be seen as an offensive remark if I didn't stress it was just my opinion

@Parvenu333 No problem for me ..Cool .... But ... as Moffett has also played in the bands of Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Mulgrew Miller, Kenny Garrett, and Harry Connick etc. (none of them in my opinion particularly noted for music requiring E pedal points) it's difficult to take your critique of his playing seriously ... but as to it being your opinion - fine!

@Parvenu333 What you're actually suggesting here is that McCoy Tyner doesn't know WTF he's doing when he hires a bass player. Which is in my opinion makes you a ignorant, stupid, impertinent dim-wit ...
