Temp Talk!
The GPU on both would hit the high 70c range but you can configure the system for lower temps!
The CPU on the 2070 Super MaxP would hit 90c during Beast Mode and maybe 5c cooler on the CPU on the 2080 Super MaxQ model. While we have Liquid Metal on that laptop, we also have less wattage on the GPU to transfer heat as well. This made it hard to address LM thermal performance in general.

Trackpad Talk! Several months back I sent over a solution to fix trackpad rattle to Eluktronics to forward to their chassis maker. They applied a very good solution per my request so hopefully this solves that little nuisance.
Power Limits on the 10875H. This was per my strong recommendation. I had this dialed in within the first 48 hours of delivery and sent in for approval. My request was approved and this is the outcome. A very strong performing laptop with several options, none of which involve 3rd party software.
Undervolting. Factory UV was originally at a -.050 maximum. These 10th gen chips seem pretty tight on voltage so pushing beyond this was a hard sell for the BIOS maker. But we got it to -.080 and that might not be safe for everyone.
DPC Latency for Real-Time Audio. This could use some work and when attempting to address the problem I was unable to solve it at the time of use. This is typically an interference with a driver and should be fixable. Time will tell.

I really hope this channel gets more exposure over the coming years. Your reviews provide viewers with an in-depth and oftentimes conclusive view of a product. This not only efficient and satisfying but could also encourage the "tech review scene" to shift its focus from aesthetically pleasing videos to more informational consumer-based ones. Great review as always Bob! :) I really hope your channel grows because you definitely deserve it as one of the best laptop reviewers on KZbin right now! Just curious, whatever happened to your OverPowered 15+ Laptop videos (the i7-8750H + GTX 1060 6GB model which was essentially their MECH-15 equivalent and the predecessor to this laptop)? Both the review and discussions about the memory bottleneck and such. I can't seem to find them on your channel anymore and I'd really like to go back and review the performance data for when the machine was new to both compare to the latest models like this MECH-15 G3 and also as an owner of that OverPowered laptop myself to compare to my current performance having never repasted, added dual-channel RAM, or even opened up to clean the laptop yet after almost 2 years lol. It'll help me determine if the performance delta with this newer model is big enough for me to upgrade or if I'm better off spending the time doing some maintenance on my machine to get the best performance out of it again and tide me over until the next-gen Nvidia laptop GPUs launch. If you had to take them down for some reason I totally understand but if you still have the video files perhaps you could drop me a OneDrive or Google Drive link or something so I could save them locally for just myself? That would be awesome!

thanks for the push-ups+ review video many ask this: How are these tongfang chassis versus Razer/gigabayte aero/asus zeyphrus overall,considering price and without price difference in mind. it's good that you review eluktroboosted products from Eluktronics but how about make a video,talking about other boutiques who sell these tongfangs without those eluktroboost and talk about your view on togfang chassis versus other premium gaming thin laptops;as most of people around the globe has access to their region tongfang-rebraded shops and not with eluktrnoics exclusive-feature. and as it's only talking,it would't take that much of editing but still will be interesting topic that many like to see and hear about.

Thanks for the great video. You've helped me narrow it down to 2 options, but I need a little more help and your objective opinion. This one or the Omen 17t? All other differences aside, processor and graphics performance are my last two considerations. I plan on doing a fair amount of gaming and want good FPS with high settings on a 1440 monitor especially with upcoming titles like cyberpunk. My long-term plan is to get an eGPU and upgrade to the RTX 3080, but wanted to do that next year. So maybe I should go with the better processor now? I also do a bit of video editing and music recording. I'd really appreciate and input. Thanks!

Hey bob. great content as usual. Do you do any idle power consumption tests? Might be interesting to check on any driver/software-hardware compatibility issues out of the box as part of your feedback to manufacturers. On my personal laptop I was shocked to find idle consumption sitting at up to 11-12W on CPU alone due to some drivers that were updated. Dropped it back down to 0.5-1W idle CPU consumptions after hunting around for the driver and reverting to oem. makes a couple hours difference to battery life when doing light tasks like watching videos on low brightness.

I'm only surprised that 2080 Super seems to score lower than last years Mech-17 G1rx 2080MQ laptop. Out of the box GFX 24K Firestrike and with some Asus GPU Tweak 27K Firestrike. The CPU seems to do better though. Dont see this years laptop as an upgrade just looking at it performance wise.

A quick question: in your use have you ever encountered sporadic system crashes leading to the blue screen and rebooting of the system? I seem to have it at random moments when just watching youtube and not doing anything power-consuming. What’s the error specifically? If it’s WHEA you can fix this by decreasing the Undervolt in the bios. Try something like -.050

-050 then should solve your problem. 10th gen is very sensitive to Undervolting as intel has these running pretty close out of the box.

You might find these laptop under a different brand. These are white branded laptops, meaning anybody can sell the same laptop architecture with a different brand name. This same laptop is all over the world under different brands. I live in south africa and here they have the same laptop under a different brand name. In some parts of Europe is the same thing. Maybe Asia also, just do a research.

Hey BOAT, I am in between the Max-17 and the Mech-15 G3, leaning towards the Max-17. Did you notice screen tearing on either of these machines equipped with the 144 or 240 Hz screens? If no, what were your Nvidia Control Panel setting to eliminate screen tearing since these panels do not have G-Sync? Thanks

at 240hz screen tearing should be hardly visible, this is why most 240/300 hz laptops do not have gsync

woodybg It’s Ultra with a 90° FOV in the Firing Range. Expect lower FPS in battle obviously but yeah it’s pretty good. It’s about 170fps here when not recording.

The "integrated graphics" mux option in BIOS entirely disabling the dGPU is truly admirable, in particular for lowering battery consumption (resulting in improved thermals), or on Linux if you do not need the dGPU and do not want to deal with the complexity of Optimus. Usually, when there is a mux switch, the only choices are either Optimus (mshybrid) or dGPU only.

Had a question for the max-15. As these chassis are provided by Tongfang, is the bios also loaded by tongfang itself? I have this question because i was thinking to buy the Aftershock Vapor 15x (its an Australian version of max 15 without the proprietary eluktronics stuff like eluktroboost) and wanted to know if it will also have the switchable graphics option. I tried looking into aftershock's website but there is no mention of even the MUX switch. If the bios is the same then the aftershock module should also have 3 graphics options - iGPU, dGPU & MSHybrid.

when you got killer performance off the max17 2070super on modern warfare, were you using afterburner/throttlestop? - if so, how did you go about setting that up optimally. also, i see you covered the bios a little better in this video, with those bios features, are afterburner and throttlestop overruled and taken out of the equation, as in no longer necessary? and if so, what kind of settings do you have set up for your max17, as i know they would be different tha ave on screen. im just trying to see peak performance in my laptop, im asking you bc ur vids are the reason i purchased. thanks for all your efforts seriously, and have a blessed day

I went back and saw the same comparison between BoAT and OwnorDisown, what i am inclined to believe in ownordisown is that the 2080 is 7% on average better. but it looks like on BoAT review, the 2070 Max-P looks great, its very confusing. Are you both using different power limits for the CPU and GPU?

What would you recommend Matrix rp 15, max 15, or mech 15 g3

Hi. Other than the mechanical keyboard, is there any standout benefits of the Mech G3 over the Max 15/17 or vice versa? Both look great, but seem similar to me.

G3 is a bit thicker and potentially cooler. It’s a different chassis size and material.

Please compare the MAX-15 And the MECH-15 G3 as when you select identical specs, they have the same cost. I want to know the differences between these 2 and maybe throw in the MAX-17 too

Had this for a year, great laptop would love a mini display port so I can use the thunderbolt as USB-C and seems software support is non existent unfortunately unless I am just wrong. However all software on the site for this model is dated and doesn't have the newer Eluktronics fan software

What was your methodology of measuring the brightness of the displays? Mainly cause you came up with 317/320 nits while ownordisown said it was 275 nits. That's a pretty large difference

Hey Bob maybe you can help me out. I'm currently struggling to get the right laptop for me. I've spend the last few months searching. I'm willing to pay max 1800 euros but wouldn't mind if I pay less. The laptops I had in mind were : Gigabyte aero 15 OLED Razer Blade 15 basis edition Dell xps 15 9500 Hp envy 15 laptop or the mag 15 ( in germany xmg fusion 15 with 2070maxq) I would use it for mostly content creation, picture, video editing, media consumption ( netflix and youtube ) as well as gaming on a side note. It shouldn't be too heavy and battery life should also be acceptable. Atm I have the dell xps 9500 but I have to return it because of a display issue. they offered me 20 % discount ( Student + another 10% ) which would mean I could get it for around 1700 euros with the 1650ti max Q and FHD+. would do you think ? the dell is getting pretty hot to the touch when doing any kind of gaming on it. besides that and the display issue I really like it. But the thought about either getting more power or an oled screen makes me hesitate to buy it again right away after giving it back tomorrow. Thanks!

No they do not. That’s a dying solution these days. THICC-17 (X170) is about the only option today.

I just got the mech-15 G3 and for some reason the MUX switch only has 2 options, igpu or mshybrid. I can't find dgpu. Am I stuck with MSHYBRID or can I plug an external monitor and it will run through the dgpu only? I also dont have the option to undervolt in the bios, has this been taken out? Thanks.

Probably too late, but did you check for differences in performance and thermals when gaming on eco or office mode? With the near draw at the high end, it would be interesting to know if the 2080 max-q pulls ahead at low power (where I would use it unless I really needed the extra performance).

Office Mode was awesome and I revealed it in two ways. One with Auto fans and one at Max fans. ECO mode is cutting it close for bottlenecking the GPU in some cases but it could be nice for some. It’s there if you need it 👍

7:52 Missed it on first viewing... cheers. The 2080 looks like it was running ~7c hotter at a lower wattage while clocking in a bit higher and pushing a lower framerate.

Karstedt live gameplay will have FPS variance. But for that reason is exactly why I don’t like benchmarks or single number “averages” to display theoretical performance.

I do not have gs66 in hand but comparing to this I think the materials are better, the design is uglier, the screen has more frames but you wont really get to take advantage except lighter games, performance is same, the battery is bigger, and the price is more. Not an expert.
