I wouldn't even know half of these franchises existed if not for Smash Bros.

25:45 I feel like Sakurai adding Palutena and Dark Pit was a perfectly fine choice. A lot of assets from Kid Icarus Uprising was used in smash bros like items and enemies. Sakurai making it meant it would be way more easier to implement a character from there and Palutena was used to showcase the potential of custom moves. She's pretty cool and unique plus more female characters is always nice. Dark pit while not as necessary can't be hated as much since he's just an clone that took barely any effort to add. He's just a bonus. I really love Palutena's guidance as well it's such a nice addition to the game. Seeing Pit and Palutena discuss fighters and their opinions on them was a delight especially whenever we get guest appearances like Chrom or Alucard.

Fun fact, Jigglypuff was a contender for being in the game due to her originally being the mascot of Pokémon before Pikachu took over as the face of Pokémon. Jigglypuff was popular in jp before the anime took off and basically overthrown her

I have mained Samus in all three Smash games that I played (64, Melee, Ultimate). My brother and I played the first one a lot and even though I went for long stretches of time without playing I would still get excited for all the new character announcements. My favorite memory of Smash is playing Melee at a house party in high school. A popular girl whos family had a big house threw a graduation party. This was back in 2006 so playing video games was still very much a nerdy thing to do and many kids aged out of it by senior year. Her little brother was playing Melee on a game cube upstairs. Two other guys were playing with him and I jumped in as soon as I saw it. Just about everyone who wandered upstairs sat down to play a round or two and we had to start swapping out three at a time with the winner carrying on to the next bout. I'd say at most there were around twelve of us who stayed and did that the rest of the night until Tiffany made us go home. Good times man. It really speaks to the accessibility and appeal of Smash that so many who weren't necessarily avid gamers at the time could sit and have a good time with it whether they spotted one familiar character or just saw how much fun we were having.

Melee will always be my favorite game in the series. Not because if the gameplay because in that aspect the game is good. But because that game introduced me to gaming as a whole. I remember playing it at a summer camp. All the other kids and the counselor who was playing with us tell me all about the characters who were to me largely unknown. Like how Mewtwo was a Pokemon even though he wasn't cute like the other ones. How Samus was actually a girl and not a robot. It was thanks to that game that my interest in video games sparked. Brawl however, introduced me to these characters. And thanks to the wonderous world of the internet, I was able to implement myself into the gaming clique in middle school. This despite not knowing anything about most of the popular titles.

Old fan from your Playstation Allstars video series days, here. I started in Brawl, Smash introduced me to so many new franchises, but the biggest ones were Mother 3 at the time through Lucas, and learning what Fire Emblem was. When Smash 4 came around I finally took the plunge into strategy games with Fire Emblem Awakening and Project X Zone 1 for the 3ds. I'm now a massive fan of Fire Emblem, having played almost every single entry in the franchise. When Byleth was revealed live, I was in a college class and burst into evil, happy laughter. He's since become probably my favorite Fire Emblen protagonist too, haha. Dragon Quest getting multiple protags also made me very happy. I so desperately wanted the protag from 8 but assumed we were just getting Erdrick. Sakurai spoils us, truly
@Bobthepetferret Жыл бұрын
Ah, we've found the one Byleth fan! But seriously though, as someone who has basically no association with the Dragon Quest franchise, I'm glad 8 was one of them as he was pretty much the only one I recognised thanks to an old PS2 demo disc. On the rare occasions I've played as Hero, that's the one I end up selecting.

I was playing smash the other day and suddenly had an epiphany, as someone born in the early 90s I coudnt believe I was sitting there playing a game and Mario, Solid Snake, Cloud and Banjo Kazooie are all there on the same screen…that is insane when you actually think about it lol

I got into smash with melee in 2006 when I ordered twilight princess for GameCube and the clerk suggested I get it. I'm a "hard-core casual" player meaning I play for fun and leave items on and don't bother with technical stuff. I remember getting brawl and loving it, smash 4 loved it too, ultimate is awesome
@cos5193 Жыл бұрын
how the fuck does this only have 1.6k views? Absolutely incredible video, that sums up a lot of the more casual and fundamental sides of Smash My favorite thing about the franchise isn't the games though - I play Ultimate/Sm4sh competitively, and my all-time favorite thing about the series is how it brings together a small group of otherwise completely disconnected weirdos every Wednesday for a tournament and a bit of socializing. I've made friends through Smash that I'll keep for a lifetime, I've made memories that'll last till death, and I've gone 0-2 more times than I'd like to admit, and the community around it has stayed incredible the whole time. Smash seems to have an aura that attracts the most diverse, friendly, and incredible group of people to every event, people who are willing to help you with any problem you might have be those an inability to b-reverse your moves or a spiraling depressive episode. The competitive scene around it, at a local level at least, always seems to be full of the most kind-hearted people out of any community - sure, it has its bad eggs, but the good far outweighs them and I honestly don't know where I would've ended up if I didn't take the game in a competitive route.

Kind of sucks that there have never been a good Smash clone because I really want to see more game companies make more Smash clones particularly SEGA since they have done crossovers before with the SEGA All Stars series and there characters would work so well in a crossover fighting game.

My favorite things about Smash Bros are the straightforward gameplay style (some DLC characters notwithstanding) and, as everyone mentions, the celebration of gaming. I also enjoy what the Mii Fighters and amiibo add to the experience. And I liked the idea of custom moves from Smash 4, creating possibilities for mix-ups that your opponents might not expect, though I know I'm in the minority on that.

Holy shit the moment in which you said that PSASBR was a game that you did a series for years ago was the biggest plot twist in the century. I was wondering why your voice sounded so familiar and it was because you did those videos in which you analyzed the movesets of the characters of that game! I always really enjoyed those and even pushed me into trying out games like the Jak and Sly series. Even as recently as two months ago I rewatched your video on the LocoRoco stage after having beat the second game Great retrospective by the way, loved listening to it and your personal experiences with the games in here

You are not alone actually Melee has never been my favorite game in the series and I've played the series from start to finish. Melee is a very good game with a ton to do, however the tedious unlock method's were frustrating to deal with, with some of them getting downright obnoxious. Not only that but the gameplay gave veterans or more competitive players an advantage over newcomers to the series which is something Sakurai wanted to avoid. Every game since has done a good job of making it fun to unlock charachters and being accesisble for newcomers. I considered Brawl the best game in the series until Ultimate came out.

Playing the original was what got me to play LOZ-OOT, it’s one of my favourite games in the series. I really like melee because of how bright and colourful it is and the music is just awsome the intro especially. I never played WiiU smash but I had the 3ds version and unfortunately it wasn’t a favourite but not sure if it was down to me having a newborn at the time. Currently playing the switch version and it’s good just frustratingly tricky at some points

You are really over reacting on lultiversus. Like. That's just a fair free to play model. One currency unlock Chara ters. Another one unlock skins. And the the monthly pass is optional to have fun and only cost like 5 dollars wich is fairly low. The game is a mess but that's what i liked personaly. Smash technicaly has no mechanics outside of getups, techs and out of shield. If you think about it every unnecessary mechanic is character specific. Lultiversus has cool downs team play etc. There are literal neutral iars with an additional effect on cool down. But yeah agreed it was janky as hell. So I hope it's coming back will fix it's issues. The nick brawls star 2 literaly play like smash. But with a super gauge, roman cancel, super dashes, and mother hecking EXs specialq. If it wasn't buggy as hell I would currently be playing it a lot more.
