BOCAS DEL TORO - SwT 41 The best place to spend the Caribbean hurricane season

Let me take you back to happy days in the exotic region of Bocas del Toro, Panama. In this episode, I'm sharing my experience with Bocas del Toro as one of the best places to spend the Caribbean hurricane season. I am planning to go back there later this spring so I thought it was a good idea to show you more of my plans for this year.

It's definitely a complicated time being a sailor but there are also lots of opportunities and options. The key to having success as a sailor nowadays is planning and being realistic. In this video, I'm showing you I'm trying to do both. Hopefully, I will cross the Panama Canal later this year and reunite with lots of friends in the Pacific.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm trying to sail around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.
Even though this is season 3 on youtube I have already sailed 4 seasons full time but did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and been sailing ever since.

I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore.

As one of the first and nicest people we met when we arrived in Del Torro, it was great seeing the different places we all shared together. Our time with Rick, Maddy on SV Sophisicated Lady and yourself was the last freedom we experienced after we returned to the USA January 2020. We were put in lockdown a few weeks after we returned. Those memories helped carry us through these crazy times. Thomas, it is good seeing you and we appreciate you sharing your continuing adventures. Looking forward to seeing you again someplace to share beers and good stories. We also wanted to go to Rick and Maddy’s wedding on Feb. 24, but travel restrictions here made it to difficult. We will celebrate with them down the road. Thomas stay safe and “Be Free!”

Been to bocas 15 and 10 years ago. Bocas for party and Bastimentos (close buy) to relax. But I guess even Bastimentos is crowded now ....all the best and good travels!

Nice place to be I guess. Free tip, hang a white blanket behind the camera when you do the stern shots. You'll see that there is much more light to work with.

Man I hope for you that your sailing dream will be reality soon. I dreamt about this and waited decades before I could realise this. So I know how you feel. Life can be a challenge sometimes, and even if it dont look like this watching my adventure now I can promise you I have had my share. If you asked me 15 years ago I would never thought this would be even posible. I have had a very challenging life belive me or not. So keep beliving in your dream and hope for it to come real. Thank you 🙏🏻 I’m really happy with my boat. She is a Bruce Farr design Bavaria 55👌🏻⛵️ Easy handling and sails pretty well! There will always be things to put your fingers on when it comes to modern sailboats. No matter which brand it has on the stickers. But in general I would say I’m pretty satisfied with my choise and she delivers what I was expecting and hoping for. I would never gone back to single rudder as having two rudders placed out on each corner makes her handling just great in rough weather. Cheers 🍻
