Come along as I discover a hidden Cuban treasure right here in Louisville, KY. Check out a Spanish delicacy I devour called Paella. Family owned and operated. Support local!!

Nice to see you doing some Cuban spots! Couple of food notes: Yuca is Cassava root and the flour from it is used to make both tapioca and boba. The fried rice you had is the Cuban take on Chinese egg-fried rice -- Havana used to have the second largest Chinatown in the Western Hemisphere (only the one in San Francisco was bigger) and to this day Cuban's are still wild about fried rice. Your buddy's "brown rice" is something called congri which is white rice cooked in the broth of soupy black beans which turns the rice that dark color. The meat he got is almost certainly ropa vieja (or "old clothes" because of the shredded texture). It's shredded beef cooked in a tomato base called sofrito. Plantains are related to bananas (they're the big honking banana looking things that you passed in the bodega) -- if you cook them when they're ripe they're sweet and if you cook them when they're green they're savory. The little match-stick potatoes Ryan got with the sammy are the classic cuban take on fries. Great review and, again, awesome that you're featuring a Cuban place! ¡Buen provecho!

Man Barry where do you start in that place! That was the most mouthwatering place that you have been to. I watched this at the rehab hospital where my 90 year old mother-in-law is at. I started chuckling actually I was laughing. Natural noise of munching down the blue crab and I was waiting for a seagull sound and it happened! It all looked delicious. I had beef tongue street tacos last night and I was throwing out double snapping turtles of my own. As always it was great seeing our friend Ryan and the eclaires he got looked to good to eat! Thanks buddy great watching you guys as always!!

Best way to recognize an awesome restaurant, deli etc that serves cuisine other than American is to look for the establishment that has a lot of people of that ethnicity. When I pass by a Mexican , Chinese , Cuban etc restaurant I always stop at those that are full of the same ethnicity even if I’m the only country boy gringo in there. If a Cuban restaurant is full of Cubans or other Hispanic people, it’s authentic and awesome… I don’t hesitate to stop.

The food looks delicious ! But it doesn't look like Cuban but more Puerto Rican. Bodega Mi Sueno... Winery my dream . The sandwich Ryan was having would be in Cuban, sándwich de medianoche... midnight sandwich, it appeared to be on sweet bread and toasted, A cuban sandwich , sándwich de cubano wouldn't be toasted and would be on Cuban bread. Would like to see more of the pastries (pasteles). Will have to go check the place out. Didn't see you have any plátanos fritos, no Cuban restaurant would be without them or papas fritas and croquetas.

I had plantains with my Paella.

I think Google has given you incorrect information. Bodega mi sueño doesn’t mean Whinery, it’s means little store of my dreams.
@MIAMI420LOKO5 ай бұрын
What he had was not una medianoche(no Cuban sandwich is call a “sandwich de”), it was a version of un Cubano(again, not sandwiche de Cubano). A Cubano is ABSOLUTELY pressed and heated on la plancha, if it’s not then it’s not a Cuban. Only thing they did differently was they added mayonnaise, left out the pickles and mustard and didn’t cut it on a hard biased angle. Oh and the pastries you are thinking about are not called pasteles, they are called pastelitos.

Paella isnt what your eating,thats a cuban version but should always be served with the proper rice and cooking technique,but still good eats.head on shrimp deliver the flavor,just like fish heads,the oils etc are in the head.Learned that from the Owner of Japan Airlines in late 70s when I worked at Yes Bay Lodge in Alaska and he flew his pilots out for some fishing,had us make a salmon head stew or broth,was tasty but differnt.

That’s crappy paella. Paella was invented in Spain. The uniqueness of the dish is having a crispy bottom with fluffy soft rice in middle.. most Latin American countries and even Portugal bastardized the dish. They make yellow rice and throw seafood in it and call it paella. That’s not paella. Their is unique way of making it as I mentioned before.
