Nico happens to be my one and only son. Thank you Mark for giving him the opportunity to share his experience. Nico, we are glad you found your balance and will eventually be able to forgo the testosterone. Know that we (me, daddy and your sister) and your girl love you 120lbs or 200lbs. I’m proud to be your mom and we see your inner beauty which is so much more profound and meaningful than the physical. You will continue to be successful.

You'd be surprised how many bodybuilders/gymrats are the most cool, down to earth people. It surprises me when people say they're intimidated to get a gym membership when almost everyone I know are extremely supportive of new members. When it comes down to it we're all there for the same reason, to be a better self, so there's very little discrimination inside the facilities and a whole lot of love going around.

Good interview Nico* 65 yr old ex powerlifter during the 80's (old school!) Had my first heart attack at 45. Arteriosclerosis - Have since had, by-pass surgery multiple angioplasty.... I am sure genetics, and some other bad dietary/lifestyle failures contributed. You can do this without the sauce Nico- you won't win the Olympia, but you can maintain a lot of size and strength , with fine tuning your training ,diet, and recovery habits. Good luck in the future young Man!

One of the biggest concerns I have with taking PEDS would be Cardiomegaly. The enlarged heart is almost inevitable because it's a muscle. Add to that, the kidneys act as a filter. Your muscle tissue and the breakdown of fibers can cause rhabdomylosis and kill your kidneys. You can't live without kidneys. All bad.

Body desmorphia is 100% real. I graduated H.S. at 146 lbs, now I'm constantly around 250+, and to this day, I'm still that 146 lbs kid in my head. That's where all the problems start... no matter how big you get, you feel small, so you do more and more, but it will never be enough in your own head. I've had people say they wish they looked like me, and I'm like, why would you want to look like this? Then the side effects start... sleep apnea, can't breathe doing everyday things, can't sleep. The quote he used is perfect..I've never heard that before. The day you start working out is the you will feel forever small...so true.

As a natural female bodybuilder who is large and cut, I sweat everyone in the gym thinks I’m I’m on gear but I’ve never been! However the minute I got a IFBB pro coach they offered it to me. It’s so tempting because of the competitive nature of this sport and the fact that if you want to be pro and competitive 95% of women are on it. Anyway, I won’t so I guess I may never turn pro! Also, looking at your body, a flat stomach and your cuts IS addictive in itself! Thanks for this different type of interview Mark!

I’ve been working out since I was 14 (I am 42 now). Body dysmorphia in men is a real thing. I was always scared of the needle so I’ve never taken roids. I did by clenbuterol in a pill form and it made my heart beat fast. It scared the shit out of me so i stopped taking them. I just stick to an ECA stack now. If you know, you know. Addiction is real. God bless and thank you Nico. Humble ass cat !

Thank you my man I appreciate you! Body dysmorphia is so crazy and it'll cause you to do some ridiculous stuff but i'm glad you did everything the right way and stayed natural! I went from being good looking and in shape. To out of shape, unshaven and unkempt. Girls didnt even look at me. Then I lost sixty pounds and got in the best shape of my life, Woman started giving me so much more attention again. Its a shallow world we live in.

Man, I'm 25 and I started lifting at 18 for the same reasons as Nico and I'm blessed enough to have gone from 155 to a solid somewhat lean 215 without using drugs. But I've seen so many younger kids trying to jump the gun cause they want the gains now at whatever cost. I met a 17 year old at the gym last year who told me he was planning to hop on the sauce as soon as he graduated, all cause he wanted to bench 3 plates and didn't want to spend the time and effort to do it the right way. Crazy how much of a "fuck it, let's go" culture there is amongst a lot of teens in the fitness space.
@robertprince2651

Aye, I got up to benching 295 at 23 with just food and protein powder. As an 80's, this physique game isn't overnight. Flex and Muscular Development had 300-page books that needed to be studied for results. Now it's a microwave process.

Thank you Mark and Nico. I am watching this before my HIIT session and then a long wished Christmas break. I feel extremely unmotivated and have never taken steroids, but all those experiences are relatable. Pursing the physique to an extreme surely marginalizes a person, and the fitness industry in this century can be just as harmful. I am more aware after watching!

Fantastic interview with an intelligent man. I would take issue with the idea that relationships are mainly about being attracted to someone physically. Yes that may well be the first link, but emotional, spiritual and intellectual compatibility is far more important for a long term or life-long relationship.
