Fun Fact about this Song: The working title for this song was Hallo Hallo. When Till wanted to sing lyrics for the song for the first time on the band's demo tape, he said "Hallo, hallo" in the beginning, just to check if it was audible and if he could hear himself. This was recorded and used before the song, which is where the demo name of the song comes from. Before the second chorus is a short break which the band wanted to fill with something. They just wanted Till to scream anything that came to his mind. So he just started screaming "Ich will ficken!" (I want Fuck!!!) In an interview, Paul (Guitarist) revealed that they wondered if the "Ich will ficken!" line wasn't too cheap and cheesy and they voted if they should keep it or remove it. Three were for removing and three other band members were for keeping it. The line was sung in one of the work-in-progress versions and the band realized that it was okay, so they kept it. The song is missing on the tracklist of the Korean version of the album, but is still on the CD. On 1 May 1994 the demo version Das alte Lied was played on radio in the show "Six-Pack" on the radio station NRJ. This is the first known time Rammstein was ever played on radio. Actually you were right the first time, it is about the monotony of life and the pain living this life, the baby at the end is the baby feeling the pain of life.

I always understood it as about being fed up with the monotone nature of not only daily life, but also human life all together. The seed growing into the light, as another human is born, every young body eventually rotting, people reproducing, dying, other people living on, it all just perpetuating. A mindless organism on "fate's mat" and he is basically saying "just get rid of it".

you are absolutely right in your assumption. it's about the daily things that happen over and over again. it is always the same suffering and humiliation despite different situations. the only problem, a few translations are not completely successful or do not quite convey the emotions that are received in German. That's because the English language is missing a few words to actually be able to translate it with the desired emotion and depth. I find your reactions to Rammstein very exciting and interesting. try "du hast" and "engel". These are the two most famous songs by Rammstein. I would be very happy to see your reaction. Okay so this song has a bit of a funny story to it. The original title they had for it in the early phases was "Hallo Hallo" as Till says in the beginning of the song Just to check if the audio was working and they Just stuck with it lol. As for the "I want to fuck" line, Till was Just asked to yell somrthing and thats what he first came up with, but they thought it was a bit cheesy and weird, they had a vote 3 members voted to keep it, 3 voted to remove it, but they just ended keeping it since it was already in the recordings.

Now I might be wrong, but I believe they reffer to the suffering of having a child... alongside staying with the same woman that gave birth to this child... that's whythe part "Ich will ficken!" is followed by "Nie mehr", which in a sentence would be: I don't wan't to f*ck ever again! Esspecially because they all got burned in the past, and Till himself has about 7 kids :D It's Rammsteing folks, they are masters of their lyrical craft :D

In one Russian video with the meanings of the Rammstein songs (by the way, greetings from Russia)) it is said that this is a simple song about male fear of impotence. That made me laugh so hard. I don't know why the author of that video made such a conclusion.

I think its important to know about the translations that when it says that “the body rots on the mat ” the is a double meaning in the german word for rot. The second meaning is to lazily relax. The word is commonly used that way. I think hes trying to convey that even his sex life is part of the mundane every day. Though that word also works to give this song a disturbing second meaning. Which isnt crazy considering the subject matter of the song “Heirate mich” on the same album.
