Those fenders sure get some pro treatment! We're not supposed to envy anybody, but I envy your skills, your experience and your equipment :)

Applying body filler is such tedious work. It takes a lot of patience. But your the man for the job and it's taking shape nicely.

Thumbs Up RoadKing! You know what might be fun? A brief rundown on how you learned the Body Work trade. Did you attend a vocational school, score an apprenticeship or did you get a job in a shop sweeping floors; and work your way up. Just curious, I know you've said you ran a Body Shop for a number of years! And to make it all even more fun, maybe RoadQueen could conduct a mini interview of sorts! What do you think? Nice work RK! ...Newk from Kentucky
@805ROADKING4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Newk!! We're self-taught. I helped my Dad fix the fender on his brand new 69 VW, then started doing neighbors cars in the driveway, then we did alotta bodywork and custom paint on friends cars all through High School. By the time we graduated we were good enough to get a job in a Body Shop. Then after working a few years for other Shops we opened our own!!☺

Personally I am more like the Karate kid. I put putty on and sand it off, I put more on and sand it off etc. A gallon or two later and the fender will look completely different but its on a different side so who will notice right? I never developed the hand sensitivity to feel high and low spots. Hence I only do stuff that belongs to me and basically is junk anyway. You are Picasso of the putty world. Great job. What was that honey stuff and how does that glaze differ from the putty you used before it.

That sander is such a neat tool. I have the more modern variant, made for boats, but man, i'd love to get my hands on an all metal one.

The long sanding board and the custom cut squeegee .were your friends to get the curve done..I have used many rolls of the cheap harbor freight electrical tape instead of masking tape
@805ROADKING4 жыл бұрын
Yeah Buddy!! That tape is good for alotta stuff except electrical work!!☺

@danthompson254 жыл бұрын
Brother RK, Using electrical tape as your guideline, was that what you had handy or is that what you normally use and it's a vintage body man's tech tip of the day? Just had never seen anybody use electrical tape for that purpose. Another great RK Productions movie!
@805ROADKING4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dan'l!! Yeah that was actually the "Tip of the Day" a few videos ago on the other fender!! Masking tape won't make that curve without puckering and the 3M striping tape is to expensive to waste, so the electrical tape works perfect for that!!☺

I have rarely had good results using putty or filler. High and low spots? Yeah, I got those. In trying to work those I always end up with flat spots. I am no sculptor!
