Boeing 777, from A to B

The success of the 777 is an engineering and design story (more at www.newairplane.... There are so many things a commercial airplane needs to accomplish and Boeing works in partnership with airlines of the world to build the best airplane for them and the flying passengers. The 777 is the most successful twin-aisle airplane in history.

I worked for Boeing from April 1978 to December 1995. I remember attending the first flight of the 777 and being overcome with a source of pride in what we had accomplished. Naturally, at that time, we did not know how successful this airplane would be but we knew in our hearts that we had build a real winner. The intervening years have proven us right on every count.

So glad my dream of flying the 777 came true... FOUR times, actually. Went to South Africa last summer and flew the beautiful Emirates 777-300ER. Four different 77Ws took me there and back in a safe, modern, joyous way of travel. I loved the mood lighting on the planes. It's hard to appreciate how tall the 777 is, until you're actually on one. Sitting on the main deck is literally like sitting on top of a two story house! And the 777-300ER is soooooo long! Seems like I was walking forever to get to my seat! And those powerful GE90s! That first takeoff roll was truly memorable. Congratulations on building such an outstanding aircraft, Boeing.

777 is an amazing aircraft, and its success speak volumes about how amazingly engineered it is. But A350 XWB is on the horizon and 777 is almost 20 years old. We can't deny that the XWB is selling well. I wish Boeing the best and hope the 8X and 9X make it into the market without a hiccup.

I am surprised that they did not mention that it is the largest twin engin aircraft, and only two aircraft have been unflyable after a crash. Keep up the good work Boeing!!!!

Interior design works are very impressive. As I be an interior designer, I liked to see traditional skechup workpapers while producing multi million $ jet plane because of I believe to give designer's inspiration is hidden on fingers touch over the materials and papers instead of computers. Thanks very much to all "amazing peoples" who are making this awesome plane.

The FAA just issued a warning that the hull of the 777 is prone to cracks and corrosion near antennas and if not properly maintained the hull could burst.

I been on Airbus A330s at least 50 times a week on my job at the airport. I walk from back to the front, window to window, business class and economy, cockpit bedding area and many more to the point of touching the plane, and see nothing come close to a B777. I been on 12 hour flight from JFK to CAI, and my experience... just couldn't even describe it. Marvelous! Go Boeing, the Lucky 7!!!!!!

The A330-300 can seat 295 (3-class) and 335 (2-class) while the B777-300er can seat 386 (3-class) and 451 (2-class)

Yes you are mistaken Ben. The A330 carries up to 375 pax, the 777 carries up to 550 pax. Those numbers of course are referring to a one class arrangement. The 777 flies further and faster as well, and with a cabin width of 5.97m is wider than the A330 5.28m. Also, the length of an A333 compared to a 773 is 63.69m to 73.9m respectively, and the 777 (compared to distance flown) has the best safety reputation of all the wide bodies. The new 777X will be longer again, which is why on it's debut airlines like Emirates ordered 150 of them.
