For across ocean travel I think the 787 and Airbus equivalents are the sweet spot. While smaller carrying fewer passengers, it's a less risky purchase when it comes to filling seats. I think the 777x and any equivalent is a niche market and don't see sales of this airplane coming anywhere near original 777 sales.

The 777X will be a great addition to many fleets, but it won't be an A350 killer by any stretch. It has proven itself to be a great aircraft, but airlines will order based on their needs and what works best for them. Just more competition, that's all.

First : concorde is not only an English plane. She was Anglo-French and the first fly was done at Toulouse Sud Aviation facility in France. Second : A350 never pretends be a B777 challenger. Her size is between B787 & B777. Third : as Emirates frequent flyer I flown both B777 & A380. The B777 is a noisy, inconfortable shaker compare to the A380. Reason why Emirat’s passangers plebicited A380 and Emirates keep them. The A350 is like the A380, a smooth, quite and confortable plane witch is plebicited too. It’s like you are flying a cloud. Actuelly the true « dreamliner ». Fourth : this isn’t because you built a massive plane that she will be good for the passangers. Confort inside depends not only on cabin forbichment but also on noise reduction and low vibrations. Fifth : Big engine, first in power, but what about others systems as électric, hydraulic, controls etc…? Are their evolutive ? What’s news ? The folding winglets ? It’s pathétique. There are doing something which can cause more issues than another plane. This is not an Navy F18 with an ejectable seat for the pilot. If they can’t deploy them : « sorry we have 24 h delay due to the wings » or « sorry we can’t be at the gate because we can’t folder tips wings… »🤣 Forethemore if one of them folds in flight. 😱 Don’t say it’s impossible. It was impossible to unlocked reverse in flight but that occured on a Lauda Air B767 and it was impossible to have a loss of control with a MCAS…. so… It’s normal that Boeing make his propaganda but it seems more in challenger position than as a leader… or a killer.
@AviationRepublic

Fair enough regarding the Concorde statement, But I want the UK to take all the credit :-) Regarding your other points, I have made a note of them all and will take them into account when making additional videos on this subject. The folding wings point you made is valid, it would be interesting know what the fail safe measures are should the wingtips fail to fold, if they fold in flight, well, that's another thing that would be interesting to know what fail safes they have in place to prevent this and what would happen if the wing tips actually did fold in flight. Thank you for the detailed comment, really, really appreciated.

A winglet isn’t going to fold in flight. I’m sure, once down, there is a lockout in place. But if for some reason, it does fold during flight, the airplane would just continue to fly. Probably would have to fly at a lower altitude and burn more fuel. But it wouldn’t really upset the aircraft.

The 777X will not fail, however the questions on everybody’s lips are, will it enter service in 2025? And how successful will it be? The 777X is a derivation of a 33 year old aircraft designed in the second half of the 1980’s, technology has moved on a pace since those days and even the radically updated 777X hasn’t caught up with the later technology of the 787 nor the A350 so given an equal size A350 and 777X the Airbus or indeed the 787 will be the more efficient airframe by some 10 to 15%. The 777 has size on its side over the A350 currently as it has the more modern engine marginally, however, Airbus have been extremely quite on wide body developments since the A330NEO and the A350 must be coming up for a re-boot, (NEO) and possibly even a stretch with a 1200 version all with new engines which would leave the 777 trailing. I wouldn’t bet that the 777 will finally enter service in 2025 in any sort of numbers, maybe one or two to save face but the real service entry will be 2026, will it be successful? It’s already sold over 400 units but personally I don’t think its going to kick either the 787 nor the A350 into the weeds, maybe sales of 800 units, which is hardly lethargic but by Boeings and Airbuses standards certainly below par.

Not Concorde itself, but certainly super sonic civilian airliners. The issue was always the "Sonic Boom", People on the ground hated it and therefore governments around the world restricted Concorde's ability to fly supersonic over their territories. All Airbus need to do is stretch the A350 and its done for. The 777 is a generation behind, even with new wings & engines. The 777-9 is 30 tons heavier than the A350-1000 despite only being 9 feet longer. Time to ditch the old school aluminium fuselage which still uses bits from the 767 parts bin.

The L10-11 was a better built aircraft and should have been the preferred aircraft over the DC-10. Although the 777-9 may be a better build, if Boeing cannot get it to market as promised, it won't matter. Airlines will need a readily available aircraft to adjust their long haul fleets. Those that use the 747-8 or the A380 will need a replacement sooner rather than later.

The 777X is just an iteration of the 777, it's not something designed to be more luxurious than the A350. To quote Bill Clinton "It's the economy stupid." It's about spending the least amount of money (Boeing's free cash flow over the last 4 years has been in the toilet) to improve carriers' Cost Per Available Seat Kilometre (CASK, or it's brother CASM (for the US imperial units)). The second biggest factor is flexibility to be able to use aircraft for different markets (business vs leisure) efficiently. And lastly commonality (which Boeing far lags Airbus, as each of its airframes has greater differences compared to Airbus's commonalities), but this less of a factor outside of some MRO savings (pilot training even less so).

We must be fair Boeing FUBARED big in the aviation industry due to building bad products recently. Just look at again a new quality problem of faulty rear pressure bulkheads on the 737 and 787 hulls. Bean counting instead of the world famous Boeing quality enginering is the achillesheel of current Boeing! The term "if its not a Boeing i am not going" has required a very sour taste since the 737 max program Lots of 737Max's and 787's are grounded, delayed or broke down way more often then usual. Loyal Boeing customers still waiting on long delayed already ordered 737's and 787's or wanted to order them opted out and bought Airbus A220's and A350's Boeing HAS to get its act togheter on the 777X program. The 777F is a really high demand aircraft in the very near future because of the expensive to operate 747-300/400F's. Also lots of 747 BCF's (converted from passenger to freighter at Boeing) are will reach their maximum of pressure cycels before a full in hull inspection / restoration is needed.
