Aidan Gillan, who plays a villain on “Game of Thrones,” portrayed John Reid in “Bohemian Rhapsody” in a positive light Richard Madden, who plays a hero on “Game of Thrones,” portrayed John Reid in “Rocketman” in a negative light

I loved that John Reid was a character in both movies because it's interesting to see someone at different times of their life acting/operating with different projects/people. Not sure how historically accurate either portrayal is, I don't know a lot about John Reid, but seeing his character in Rocketman interacting with Elton John and then with Queen. Aidan Gillan and Richard Madden may look nothing alike and I don't think timelines make them as different in age as they appear in the films, but 2 Game of Thrones' best actors so I can't complain, it's still cool

I was more entertained by "Bohemian Rhapsody" because I'm a much bigger fan of Queen than Elton John. However, on a more cinematic level, "Rocketman" is much stronger, especially when it comes to addressing the nitty-gritties.

I am more a Queen fan that Elton's ... actually I never considered myself a Elton's fan, just an admirer of a few songs. But still I was way more entertained by Rocketman .... When I watched BoRhap I felt so empty.

As a Gen-Z boy, I didn't grow up with Queen and Elton Music, of course I Knew about Queen because their songs play more on social media, movies, tv, etc. than the Elton ones (at least that's what I saw on my perspective). So these movies were a way to introduce me deeper in the life and music of Queen and Elton and Holly Molly. I liked Bohemian Rhapsody, they did a great job making an enjoyable PG experience to have a good time and yeah, the Queen's songs were playing in my mind all over the next sixt months till Rocketman came. And no, it wasn't for popularity because well, Rocketman didn't get the attention it deserve (I didn't saw nobody talking about it when it came out), but it was because of the story. I can forgive the changes they did in the Elton's life for the movie because that servers a good porpose for the plot (instead of doing it a cliché), my favourites parts were all the rehab segments because I felt them as an incredible original way to told a story from the perspective of the protagonist so yeah, I fell in love with the Elton's history, It was so shoking for me see him going on overdose and screaming "YOU F*** IDIOT" alone in their house, I LOVE everything about it and I could identify myself with Elton because by the time I just broke up a very tought relationship (That yeah, mine doesn't compare with him because I wasn't on drogs or scammed by a manager, but with the emotional trip of living in a fake relationship that you think is real but for the other person doesn't). But well that was a more personal experience that helps me to go deeper in the movie, without that the movie still geting me emotional everytime I rewatch it because of the way it was written so well. So, why did I tell my personal and emotional experience seeing the movie? Because thanks to the risk of go deeper in Elton's life I could "meet" him better and get identify, in the other hand yeah, BoRha has it's saddest moments but I don't remember a moment where we can connect with Freddy beyond the "he's the protagonist" argument and again, I liked BoRah, I could rewatch it an at the end I'll be satisfied, but If I want to see a shocking story wich I can identify and feel emotional, I would definitely see Rocketman. And just to conclude: of course, I love both movies soundtrack, as I said before I couldn't get off of the Queen Music for a while and with Elton's happened the same (And yeah, I could identify more with Elton's because of the way I felt the movie, but it is just a plus (thanks I'm Still Standing and I'm gonna love me again for helping me to get over a hard relationship and love me... again :p )). So with the music I didn't have any trouble (I think nobody haha). Thanks for reading me

I think what makes me love Rocketman so much is that it doesn’t hold back. We get to see how much of a Dick Elton John WAS and how much we love and appreciate him and his journey to love and appreciate himself. It’s something we don’t see in movies. Self Love. Also I blame this movie for making me realize I was Bisexual don’t judge me, k?

I really enjoyed your insights on not only the films in question, but on this genre of visual storytelling via a contrasting scope. Subbed. 👏👏👏

I don't think you should focus on when the songs actually came out in real life, but rather which song would fit certain parts of the story better. They are not going for historical accuracy here. I think they did a good choice in their selection of songs for different scenes.

I love both of these movies because elton john and queen are my top two favourite artists. One thing for bohemian rhapsody is that they didn't just use freddies real vocals for the movie, they mixed freddies, ramis and marc martels vocals (marc martel is incredible and he sounds so much like freddie that he made an official tribute band and he has played with both Brian and roger)

I would always prefer to watch all available interviews with the members of Queen than watching this movie. Never convinced me to spend my money on that, and I spent a lot of my money on music of Queen. It is simply not needed to make such a parody with altered facts just for 2 hours of cheesy entertainment. I got a hunch, Freddie would agree with me, because to him, arts and music wasn't about success and money making only. He had a passion for music, artistic performances and the show on stage. Understand the difference: work hard as an artist to perfection, then you can have fun. This is Bohemian Rhapsody.

It's pretty obvious that the movies are made to make an entertaining story, especially in Bohemian Rhapsody's case. If they went through all the details exactly as they happened, that'd make a long, bloated, tired movie. Yes, it isn't historically accurate or the *best* that it could've been, but for an entertaining movie that includes an abridged an altered version of the bands history for entertainment purposes, it's pretty solid.

As a huge Elton fan I was disappointed by Rocketman. I wished it would have been more about Elton and Bernie writing music together and Elton with his band. Elton’s band that helped make the Elton John sound should have been featured in the film. The original Elton John Band from 71-75 rivaled the Beatles in musicality and overall output at releasing two albums a year and all 7 albums going to number one between 72-75. That’s insane.

You made a lot of good points, but I still prefer "Bohemian Rhapsody" to "Rocketman." What failed with "Rocketman," in my opinion, were the outlandish musical numbers. Yeah, I get that Elton John was flashy and flamboyant, and that the film was a jukebox musical that wanted to reflect his larger than life personality. However, the musical numbers always took me out of the story. The best parts were when we saw Elton's life acted out. My boy Taron Edgerton (aka Eggsy) did a great job with that. But once I started getting into the movie, a musical number would start up and it would kill the moment for me. The only exceptions to this were the "Your Song" scene (that was one of the best scenes in the movie, BTW), and the scene where Elton sings a melancholy version of "Tiny Dancer" after Bernie ditches him at a party (if I'm remembering that correctly). I don't think "Rocketman" had to be a musical in the traditional sense. If it were more straightforward, it would've been great. Also, I enjoyed "The Runaways," too. Kirsten Stewart killed it as Joan Jett.
