Typical for Wargaming (or Gaijin, for that matter). They always put in some ridiculously OP Russian science fiction machine and then give it totally random and usually not important at all "weaknesses", like that detection range, so they can claim it is balanced.

The Project 82 Stalingrad was hardly science-fiction. The ship was actually under construction when Stalin died in 1953, and was launched in an incomplete state, to be used as a missile target.

@@forcea1454 It was under construction but had armour thinner than an Alaska class but from vastly inferior Russian steel so actually would have less effective armour protection than a Baltimore class. Instead it's armour is magically more reliable than most tier 10 angled battleships.

-important weaknesses of the Stalingrad: 1. no hydro in the slightest 2. larger turning circle than the Kurfurst by 80 meters 3. exposed citadel that goes more than halfway up the side profile, covered in only 180 mm of plating, thus making it vulnerable to be citadelled to death by the likes of Kleber and Grozovoi, should it ever get rushed 4. worst DPM of all the tier ten cruisers, even Puerto Rico sees a marginal improvement 5. fires last 30 seconds on all cruisers, except on Stalingrad, they last 60 seconds. 6. only 4 heals, like any other cruiser, even Hindenburg and Colbert aren't relegated by this 7. what people forget to mention, is that while it is almost as tanky as a battleship, it also retains the full size of a tier 10 BB- it's longer than Iowa and gets outspotted by Yamato, Montana, Bourgogne, Conqueror, Thunderer, all the tier 9 BBs, etc.

Weaknesses are almost entirely mitigated by long range sniping and bow tanking, moreso than BBs angling and requires less skill than angling.

Speaking of citadels... I was playing a battle in the French tier 6 premium BB Dunkerque(which I love despite being awful on paper) and my commander only had 4 skill points(3 from the start because you get a commander with 3 points included, and 1 from playing), as I had just gotten the premium so no deadeye(good riddance). I was sitting at max range with my spotter which is like 22km at tier 6 with ship with bad dispersion, even for tier 6 standards when a Konigsberg popped up, full broadside, but he soon realized his mistake and started to maneuver. I aimed accordingly by seeing what his movements were(I aimed as if he was going 25 knots) and I fired, shells in flight, and BAM triple citadel, dev strike, first blood, first salvo. I continued to do almost nothing but I got 80k damage by the end of the game, which is pretty good for Dunkerque standards all things considered.

Actually Jingles, the Des Moines does have high firing arcs like the Worcester and Cleveland; in fact it was one of the first cruisers in game known for hugging islands and shooting over them. Alright, back to my triple shift in the salt mines I go.

Funny how Jingles questions the Des Moines play while this is the only tactical thing a Des Moines can do. If you stay in the open as a Des Moines you die quickly. By hiding behind the island you can filter the number of ships shooting you at once, killing them one by one. Ofcourse you do need the other team to actually push into you and you do need a team that wont suicide themselves instantly.

The real issue is that the dude keeps aiming at the deck of ships that are closing range and poking holes in their superstructures. Suppose it's preferable to bounces but sorta wastes the improved autobounce deal.

@@Tuning3434 Midway, daring, minotaur and Worcester were also active naval vessels, Audacious was commissioned as HMS Eagle after modifications during the build process. Montana was a ship that the US navy made the choice to not build at the last moment because of budgetary reasons but was otherwise proven technology. By comparison the soviet navy did not have the technical ability to make the armor or guns for the Stalingrad.

@@isaacdoggart4879 I have mentioned HMS Daring first, and the Minotaur in game is the '47 design, not the '43 modified Crown Colony (Fiji!) as build historically . You've definitely are right with Midway, Audacious / Eagle and Worcester though. The point that I was trying to make is that in order to fill up the tX slot, a lot of handwaving has always been in game, because barely 2 nations where able to reach a technology level that can yield suitable ships. Attacking pure on the historical existence is a bit hypocritical at this tier. I indeed acknowledge whatever the IRL Stalingrad would become, it will never be as OP as the ingame version is. Stalingrad is the Tx representation of the Russian gimmick, just like the acceleration, smoke, stealth and vodoo-health magic are at the British line. IRL the Town-class was build to be seen, and intimidate on colonial stations.

Operation Citadel is also the name of a really good book about two russian tankers, a female russian pilot, a german SS tiger commander, and a german spy who works for the partisans. I highly recommend it!

So at 3:35 Jingles brings up the friendly Worcester. There is a town South of where I live that is spelled (and pronounced nearly identically to how he says it) the way that Jingles pronounces Worcester. This town is called Wooster, and I need to know why Jingles pronounces Worcester like Wooster. As an American, I would pronounce Worcester pretty much as "warchester" and need an explanation for why we say it so differently. An accent doesn't account for the three letters Jingles removes from Worcester when he says it. Halp.

this season of ranked has been interesting with the Venezia, MvR, and Petros sailing around The Stalingrad is still a beast if given broadside, but its weird seeing such powerful ship become just another normal strong ship with all its competition. I remember shitting my pants seeing one on the enemy team. Now? "Meh, the MvR will eat it" or "Our Petro will out brawl it with its higher DPM and turret traverse"
