Well its a simple reason why she is 43% winrate: She did a lot of losing while learning the game, which is reflected in that. If we looked over her whole career I can bet that a lot of her losses were clustered near the beginning. A rough run-down of all the good decisions she makes over the course of this game 1:05 she starts to turn to follow her two divmates, but then realizes that a. the other flank, C, is significantly undermanned, as well having a lone (and their only) radar cruiser, escorted by only two tier seven ships. Thus, she turns to give their side support 2:38 that Tirpitz has been spotted for a while now, however, she doesn't take a pot-shot at him, as it wouldn't be worth getting spotted for longer, just to get some superstructure damage. Also, note how the course she has set takes her closer to the Tirpitz, while ALSO offering that island to duck behind if people close to B start sending cross-map shots at her broadside 3:00 turns OUT, instead of turning IN. The Tirpitz is not alone, and if that Nelson switches to HE, she would be in trouble. She chooses not to take this fight. A good call. 3:45 switches fire to the most important target, the Buffalo trying to peek her DD 4:05 IMMEDIATELY sets her secondaries on the DD the moment he appears. This means that she was anticipating him from the start. This is unicum-level game sense. 5:03 she anticipates their DD dying, and begins pushing, recognizing that the only torpedo threat on her flank is about to be gone. 7:07 people might be critical of her decision to broadside all the ships in front of her to shoot the Nagato here, but I think it's a good decision. She can't be citadelled, meaning she loses a quarter of her health absolute worst case scenario, but she's done a fair job of conserving hp up until now, and she has chosen to trade it for a full volley on a Nagato's relatively weak broadside. That's a good trade that even some unicums would make 7:20 this isn't just a potato sailing full broadside, anyways. she immediately snaps back into an angled, defensive position the moment the volley is out. 8:00 she was angled against Nagato only up until now, since the Nelson didn't have shots anyways. However, now that she's cleared that island, she immediately checks whether the Nelson has turrets pointing towards her. Even though he DOESN'T, he immediately becomes top priority for her, since his threat keeping her from bringing all turrets on the ships in front of her. 8:06 aiming for the region under the first turret, that's where the Nelson's 32mm center plating ends. She knows where to aim to get citadels. 8:51 Tirpitz about to close within 6 kilometers, she pops hydro. This is a good, albeit obvious call that many german BB players don't do. Usually you see hydro activated AFTER the torps have arrived. 11:03 she's not pushing deeper into spawn, protecting B is their top priority and she knows it. 11:40 possibly a coincidence due to a lucky turn, but she's set a new course to keep the island between herself and the Ibuki's HE spam. If intentional, this is a GREAT call 13:03 not only did she anticipate the Ibuki rounding that island, she continues to prioritize him even after the Georgia pops up, recognizing that his fires can kill her faster than that Georgia's AP, since she's angled, anyways 13:10 AGAIN, she focuses her angling on and prioritizes the person on her broadside as her most important target. The Ibuki is still there, but the Georgia sitting on her side is more dangerous 13:51 she's caught in a three way focusfire. Thus, she focuses on getting behind that island and reducing the number of ships firing at her to just the single tier seven cruiser. Also, the Georgia is close to being put out of commission, thus she focuses both secondaries and main guns on him. 15:11 slowing down, she doesn't want to risk the win by chasing a cruiser on her health. Instead, she waits for him to round the island. He doesn't, so she doesn't try to force an engagement.

Her 2 division mates were bottom of the team for XP in top tier ships. That might be part of the reason for the 43% win rate.
@LeatherCladVegan3 жыл бұрын
That is not the reason. The reason is that she had to learn like everybody else, and her first game counted for 1/1 of her WR, the next game 1/2, next 1/3 up until now, where her games are counting for 1/5000-odd percentage points of her WR, and as such it is impossible for her to claw it back. People with Unicum WRs simply started a new account after they learned how to play.
@lint83913 жыл бұрын
@@LeatherCladVegan I have a 63% win rate over thousands of battles. No re-roll for me. My win rate after 50 battles was below average because I was new to the game and learning the basics. After 100 battles it was up to 50%. After 300 battles it was up to 57%. From there till 1500 battles it drifted up to 62% to 63%. Where it has stayed ever since. That was playing almost entirely solo. When I divisioned with my son we had a 70% ish win rate. I would stress that I merely consider myself a competent player that just happens to have enjoyed playing certain ships at certain tiers over and over again.
@LeatherCladVegan3 жыл бұрын
@@lint8391 Sure. But you get my point, right? Every game you play has less of an impact on your WR than the game before it. P.S. A 63% WR would put you in roughly the top 0.5% of players, including re-rolls.
@LeatherCladVegan3 жыл бұрын
@@lint8391 It seems to me that people make the mistake of thinking that 'half of all people win half of all battles', but this isn't true because we didn't all start at the same time. So you, being in the top 0.5% on the SA servers, at least, would kick my ass every time. This would smash my WR into the ground, whilst doing very little to raise your already amazing rate. Because this is the way things work, remember that 'winning streak' doesn't factor into WR. I could be on a 20-win tear, and that would make me a dangerous opponent, but it would not be reflected at all in my WR. Does this make sense?
@AgentFrosty3 жыл бұрын
I was one of her div mates in this game, in the Soyuz. It was...not my best showing by far, obviously. lol. I went to cover the western flank while she covered the east, ended up getting boxed in by the rest of my own teammates where my only way out was backwards or show two Georgias my broadside in a turn, was perma-spotted, and consequently farmed to death in short order. I do put part of the blame on my teammates on that flank, but it was also my fault for getting caught in that situation in the first place. Not to mention, iirc this was only my 2nd or 3rd game in the Soyuz, and the Russian BB's were my first line I decided to grind through as well, so that should also tell you how early in my WoWS career this game was. Not quite a year later and my WR is 50% exactly in Random, 57%/59% for new/old Ranked respectively (obviously Coop is higher, 97% because...well, it's Coop. lol). I'm not unicum, but I'm not potato. I have games where I make all the right decisions, have great map awareness and can correctly anticipate what the enemy will do, and games were I flat out just go full potato and am left sitting there realizing just how badly I played. I'm a good role/utility player, and I play for team victories as opposed to farming damage, so my total damage per game may be on the lower side (between 80-110k on average these days) but the damage I do is usually calculated and on priority targets that will help win the game. That being said, our 3rd div mate, Steve, is a complete potato and he knows it and relishes in his role, we have great fun trying to figure out which way he'll end up at the bottom of the ocean in each match. The Crystal of today is very much the same player you see in this video. She has bad games, sure, but I'll be the first to tell you she's better than I am. I honestly believe she is one of those few players whose WR hides her true abilities. I can't count how many times she's held off and controlled an entire flank on her own when the rest of the team with her withered and died, or ran. She is better than her WR lets on, full-stop. If she were to start a new account today, I can guarantee her WR would be in the high 50's, if not low 60% range. Like explained by LCV here, it took her so many games to get her skills developed that by the time she had, it didn't matter anymore. If you ever see her on the EU server and end up playing against her, it will be in your best interest to take her out quickly, because she most definitely is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and games like the one above are not uncommon for her anymore. Unless she's in a CV. She sucks at CV's, she'll tell you that herself. xD

@landochabod74 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the Bismarck is not a good damage dealer. The guns are small for her tier, you need to show broadside to use them all (that means you'll get penned in return, which is bad even if you won't get citadelled), and they have poor accuracy. She can win games because she can push with secondaries+hydro, but if damage is what you want there are better options (Amagi, Richelieu). At T9, Georgia and JB can often pull 240k games, if you know what you're doing.

Key element (in my opinion) and what gives a nice suggestion that Crystal will improve and get her winrate >50% is - that she was NOT CAMPING in a (brawler) BB - and was actually charging in. Well done. The biggest contribution to losses is the campers, specially in BBs that would do well much closer. It doesn't mean, that they need to yolo, but being able to support your cruisers and DDs, like Crystal did here, is a MAJOR advantage that can easily make the difference between winning and losing. I applaud for Crystal and her performance, which was astonishing and she really carried the team to win... and I am convinced, that if she plays like that in the future, she will be raising her winrate rapidly. Well done, and I welcome her to my team, anytime - winrates be damned.

You called it exactly right with the stat deniers. After 3000 games you have more than a big enough sample size to draw conclusions. You should always look at the stats holistically but winrate is a great snapshot of overall performance and impact in game. It can be seen that players with lower winrates also usually have lower average stats in all other areas too (damage, accuracy, cap points/defends, spotting etc). PS: the FdG is not an easy ship to do well in!

Don’t look only at the winrate! Look at average XP over time, average DMG over time, winrate over time and „personal rating“ over time. If you’re not a unicum player and it doesn’t change upwards, you should try to improve. If you don’t improve you stay a potato! I don’t care if somebody has a bad winrate, i care if that person shows no interest in improving, which is reflected in stats over time and constant whining about bad matchmaking, other players, mechanics and other stuff.

@@Sir.Craze- Afaik there is little conclusive evidence to support it is a significant issue, but it also has not been definitively disproved. Either way, avoiding it before going to bed helps some people sleep (my gf sleeps a lot better if she uses blue filters). As a multiple colorblind (proto- and deuteropania) person I kind of can't avoid it, so I've looked into it a bunch, but until there's more research done on it, my stance is that it's basically inconclusive.

Nobody believes it, but some players in such games (and other types of games) are just persistently unlucky and their win rate does not reflect their skill level. I'm not a superstitious guy, but some games seem to try really hard making me one. Towards the end of my roughly 6000 battle long World of Tanks career, I had gotten pretty used to being among the highest scoring player in most battles I played and I was getting cranky when I didn't do at least 2000 to 3000 damage, I had a bunch of "Marks of Excellence" on my tanks and I could hold my own against Unicorns. Happened several times that some purple dude killed 7 or 8 of my team mates and then I stopped him. As soon as I got out of mostly playing all those shitty low tier garbage tanks and unlocked the first few capable tier 7+ machines, my WN8 rating, which had been climbing slowly but steadily till then, shot up at a 45 degree angle in the graph. Yet, my winrate was still well below 50%. Despite my overall stats "going green", I think I hadn't even gone above 48%, if I remember correctly. I still had those evenings where I would lose 30 battles in a row, because my team evaporated around me and I ended up being the only guy who did more than 500 damage before being overrun. That was quite common, actually, happened at least twice a week or so, but I don't remember ever having had a single comparably long winning streak, not once. I was actually surprised my winrate was even near 50%. The way it felt, it should have been way lower. Of course I know what Confirmation Bias is and so I actually did a statistical study of another game I played a lot: Minesweeper. I don't know whether you ever played it, but it happens pretty often that you encounter situations where you cannot deduct the position of a mine and have to guess where it is. Often there are 2 or 4 veiled squares left, with 1 or 2 mines in them and there is no way of knowing where. You got to guess and you got a 50% chance to get it right. I had the feeling I failed at those guesses way more often than not, so I started counting and writing down the results. After recording no less than 11 000 instances of me having to guess with a 50% chance, it turned out I had failed in more than 77% of cases. That is so improbable and skewed that the most likely explanation is that the game is cheating and is deciding where to put the mine after you made your guess. But why would it do that? Why would the programmer want to cheat and frustrate the player of such a single player game? It doesn't seem to make sense. That I could have been so unlucky over so many games played, doesn't make sense either though. That is what I meant when I said it seems games are trying to make me superstitious. In WoT I stopped judging people by their winrates and I stopped believing those predictions that mod made at the beginning of the match. They didn't match up with my experiences at all. I think I must have won more battles with a 30% win probability team than I won with a 50% win probability team. I didn't write those down, so that might be confirmation bias, though.

I'm a 52% guy and i can definitely tell you, i'd have thrown my ship into the trash in so many different occasions to crystal, kudos, well played. The constant and unwavering thinking, instead of getting taken away with the moment, is the most important quality in a wows player imo. She is probably not gonna be a 43% wr player for long. Some people just fuck up royally when they start the game, as expected, and have a very tall order of repairing their account to reflect their true skill after they learn the game. Case in point.
@petermoeller59014 жыл бұрын
What you say should be obvious. The win rate reflects the average skill over the entire time since a player started. Crystal's WR for the last month would be substantially higher than 43%. If Jingles, the storyteller he is, thinks he can make his "story" more interesting by riding the "43% potato", he will do it.

I am the same kinda potato... I have been playing WoW since the very beginning, but I play just few hours a week. I am a "recreational" gamer... So, my stats are bad, I am not that experienced, and make bad decisions. I have only 2 Tier X ships, because that is what I was able "grind" with the amount of hours I played. The rules change faster than I can be used to them, and all of my favorite ships were power creeped into crappiness. But I play good enough that more than 50% of the game I am in the top 3.

Few hours a week since the beginning, should make you a very experienced played. So you could easily do better than 50%. Although, fair point to you, the game changes too fast, and if you dont spend time to look on the changes, then you do play with a handicap

Not more so than the fires set by a KGV or a Monarch. The Nelson does have some fearsome AP, though. What holds her back is the so-so accuracy, but she can easily do 15-20k on a broadside FdG, at medium range.

There are behaviors that may artificialy lower someone's win ratio without him being actually overly bad. When you try to make as much XP per ship as possible everyday in a constrained time by stopping at the first victory to get the bonus then switching to another ship. It ensures that you will stop at the first win but may experience several defeats before. Moreover i may not be the only one, when i get a poor streak due to unlucky matchmaking or being a potato myself, once i get my first victory in a ship I am all too happy to switch to another boat rather than fighting a win for each defeat I experienced.

7:40 Jingles, I just wanted you to know that I have 5x T10 and 4x T8 and have not yet played 1600 games, let alone 2000. I'm above average in cruisers, unicum in destroyers, super unicum in aircraft carriers (not that I actually play them more than a game per week if that) and fried potato in battleships, because they're too slow to unfuck themselves if they make a mistake, and I suck at WASD hacks in ships with double digit rudder shifts. You certainly don't need 2000 battles to get into an FDG. You can get a tier 10 within 600 PvP games if you spend about 3 or 4 hours on PvE practising your aim. I would know, because that's how many battles it took for me to get myself my Gearing, which was my first T10.
@steeljawX4 жыл бұрын
I'd say that was very impressive. She battleship'd correctly and didn't long-range bombard, edge-of-the-map-camp like a niche of BB captains do. But she didn't "Leroy Jenkin's" charge either. She knew when to fight and when to survive and she had target priority and awareness of her surroundings. She took hits when she needed to and tried to take them at angles as optimally as she could. I'd also say that the general rule of collisions apply with that run in with the Dmitry Donskoy; unless absolutely and indubitably done with malice and the intent to troll, fault is never with the Battleships or the Carriers. So I'd have to call this a nearly perfect game. Ideally, more kills were deserved, but supporting the team towards victory is something a lot of players need to learn how to do. Great replay.

Sadly, Jingles, it is entirely possible to be a decent player in all sorts of games, and still have a winrate in the low 40% ranges. That is online gaming for you. Full disclaimer before the accusations: I *am* abysmal at WoWS. But in many other games I was actually quite decent at, my team tended to be more of an obstacle to victory than the enemy. Yes, things average out, but the average is below the frog's ass.
@ainumahtar4 жыл бұрын
Except you can actually look at your gameplay and see where you went wrong. There's no reason whatsoever to be below 48% or so. Maybe you're too passive (not contributing for the sake of 'playing it safe') or too aggressive (suiciding early), one of those is usually the main problem.

She was focusing on the objective and was supporting her team. It was good to see. In my clan we are several players that have a win rate near 43 %, when we play separately. Three of us playing together in a division have a win rate of 73 %. Just a tiny little corporation between players increases the win rate amazingly.
