After Barddhaman, we were on the Up fast track all the way till Asansol and the LP was able to maintain 130kmph for long periods. Apart from the generous honking, be sure to enjoy the skips of Panagarh, Andal and Raniganj, and the encounter with Coalfield Exp. at Durgapur. Also, don't miss the twin WAG4s with different side profiles at 3:03.

high speed trains need protected tracks...one cow is enough to damage the locomotive running above 150 kmph.

Ours is a vast country with so many odds. Illiterates, mazdoor unions, wast network. With such odds 130 is a great speed

130 kms p.h. Is a very good speed as most trains even in Europe except TGV, ICE type run at 150 kms. only. The difference is the chaos we have in level crossings, congestion in tracks - too many trains esp. MEMU,DEMU type in main lines stopping at all stations and non fencing of lines. If signalling improves, congestion managed well along with other areas, we can have trains covering 100 kms. p.h. with same tracks, locos and rakes. That’s enough for India.

This video is simply epic! In the year 2000, I was just 1 year old! I noticed though, that most Shatabdis back then used to be extremely short. I felt a bit emotional though. Those were the glory days of IR as competition from airlines and roadways was practically nil back then.

Mani Sir....I have got no words to explain how much happy I am today after seeing this, I remember in those days colour of the coaches used to be brown for all trains except Rajdhani and Shatabdi, heard that coalfield express used to have pantry car, now seen it through your video, I used to travel daily in Coalfield exp. from kulti to durgapur between 2013 and 2017, and can say that infrastructure of each and every station from panagarh to asansol have changed very much, espeacially Asansol has gone through a vast change in these nineteen years, Bokaro Shatabdi now runs till Ranchi. Sir have you got any old video from howrah to dhanbad ? If yes, please upload it, I am eager to watch...Thanks a lot for taking me to my childhood days...!!!

Very glad you enjoyed! I have traveled in Coalfield a few times in the 70s. Then it used to have a nice red livery with cream band across windows bordered by black stripes. Hauled by WAM2/3 loco.

Excellent footage. I appreciate your hardwork and your true railfan spirit. I have watched few of your videos and I think they are great. Also, note the coalfield pantrycar 6:40 . It was discontinued soon after 2000 .

I was about be in class 1 on that time. Great to see the platform of Durgapur how it was actually. Miss the First class and the pantry car of coalfield now very badly. Now coalfield shares the rake with agniveena and with shantiniketan express too.. but the memory was awesome.. loved it

Very nice video sir, nostalgic and very comprehensive at the same time. Indian Railways should kindly shift their focus to South India, it is already so neglected (esp. Coimbator Chennai Bangalore Hyderabad Kochi) these are commercial hubs of India ... thank you for this amazing compilation and great capture Sir

130 km speed is enough for smooth icf journey.we are feel really happy in this number of speed.no need to increase up to 160 and 200.i like to travel in limited speed railway.short but sweet.limited speed release dopamine harmone from mind which is gives us enough happiness.

It was a WAP4 from MPS and the train had 7 coaches.

It must have been winter I suppose sir, I haven't traveled long distance trains for more than a year, missing going for outing on a train, hope will get to go somewhere in near future. What could be more authentic a feeling than missing travelling on a train desperately and watching a classically awesome classical rail video which also helps missing old childhood days?

Correct. It was only upto Bokaro then. In fact, it was introduced between Howrah and Bokaro.

Yes, I have recorded all these videos. I am not a loco pilot, just a regular railfan. Back then, my uncle used to GM of ER. Hence, I got an opportunity to travel in the loco.

They were both running 8-10 hours late due to fog, hence, did not meet them.

BTW Those days there was no Sealdah Rajdhani (It started in July 2000). But Kolkata did have two rajdhanis even back then. The second rajdhani was the Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani via Howrah :)

Unfortunately, I don't. This train later got curtailed till Tata and then converted to Jan Shatabdi.

Rourkela Shatabdi was superb with stoppage at Kharagpur and Tatanagar. It was better than my favourite 12019 because they served dinner and Kathleen use to be the caterer. Wonder why it did not get good patronage!!
