The chat is moving fast enough that noone will know that my wife just realized the opening song has words. When asked what she thought was happening she said "i thought he was just making jack black sounds" And i will lose sumo fantasy to her again...

Kotozakura is SO consistently good, I'm with you on this prediction.

He’s the only one who feels like a future Yokozuna to me. Any of the other guys could figure out, but Koto is SO solid and it feels like hes gettin a little fire in him. I think he is starting to believe in himself.

@@noahpendergrass9744 I definitely think Hoshoryu and Onosato will get their ropes too. But like he said, Hoshoryu is still a dragon that hasn't woken up yet, we're only seeing him start to rouse out of the last light layers. I think Onosato's in for a couple rough ones now in Sanyaku, but not really any actual setbacks. Meanwhile everyone kept sleeping on Kotozakura while he was stuck, log jammed at komosubi, biding his time and just practicing consistently tearing up most of the sanyaku. Kotozakura IS the next yokozuna barring tragic injury.

i hope takakeisho's healthy enough for kk :( its so weird to me how much people talk down about the quality of takakeisho's sumo when he's been ozeki for the entire ~5 years ive been watching. this guy has all those kyujo AND 4 yusho+5 jun-yusho at ozeki. and he gets double digits more often than not in basho where he actually goes the full 15

I think your prediction about Wakatakakage contending for the yusho is spot on. Kotozakura will also be right there because he’s been able to stay healthy in sanyaku. I’m hoping Kirishima can get his 10 wins because he’s a legit Ozeki when he’s healthy. He and Takakeisho are so similar because it goes from talking about possible Yokozuna promotion to suddenly possible demotion to sekiwake because of injuries.

Mitakeumi looked like ozeki until he injured his thigh. Health is the only thing holding him back. When he got the 3-12 it was just after his dad died. I’m hoping he puts on a show!

As always, an excellent and entertaining recap. That's 13 minutes and 31 seconds well spent. / (1) Hair looks great. (2) Congrats on the Second City project! That's awesome! (3) Sadly, Takerufuji is indeed kyujo, although he may be able to come back later in the basho. (4) I hope you are right about Atamifuji, Midorifuji, and Wakatakakage and wrong about Teru and Kirishima. I really, really want Kiri to get his health and mojo back and regain Ozeki.

I think you may be right about Onosato here and that others will become more aware his weaknesses, which I think are quite glaring actually. His strength is obviously his size and power, as well as a good sumo mind once on the belt. But his weaknesses were quite clear even down in Makushita and Juryo. His tachiai is realatively weak and even more importantly, he does not do well at positioning his body against opponents of different sizes. This means he does not lower his centre of mass to be able to resist those who drive under him and he lost several bouts to much less skilled rikishi who would simply off-balance him and get lower. He has shown some signs of this at Makuuchi, but injuries and off-colour guys at the top papered over this a little at the top of the basho. I think many rikishi will decide to fight him with different angles and lower positioning and focus on pushing rather than clinching with him where you just fall into his strength
@Thejoeb
@Thejoeb Ай бұрын
This is one Basho where I will be happy if almost any of the top of the chart wins. Kotozakura is poised to take his first. Kirishima would be a comeback story from injury and return to form. Hoshoryu is a dark horse everytime, has to win through phenomenal skill and some luck but when he wins, I am always happy. Takakeisho would be another feel good story, though we know its just not happening, I would love to see it anyways. And the Big man if he rounds out to form could take his 10th and become Dai-Yokozuna which anything that man achieves at this point does not surprise me, hes just pushed through so much worse already. and finally... who I think could really make some waves with this second consecutive win is Onosato. I think he will be fast tracked to Ozeki and will cement himself as the sure fire next Yokozuna by proving he can win back to back. I just really want to see the cream rise to the top from the sanyaku... low meagashira winning this would be a travesty imo where theres so much on the line for the guys who have fought to the top already. They must perform.

Haircut's looking fresh, dude! I feel like you're being too down on Kirishima, saying the top of the banzuke is too strong, but then saying the sanyaku are weak for the benefit of Atamifuji. Can't go both ways! I'm also choosing Kotozakura for the yusho, but I think Wakatakakage can clean up in the lower ranks and claim a yusho with the easier wins. Love the content! Don't stop!

Who would you like to play on stage? Frank N Furter, Eddie (and Dr Scott) or Riff Raff? I know, i know, you would make a lovely Janet but since you mentioned her, that role goes to Padma Lakshmi. Ofc Rocky will be played by Ishiura in his golden mawashi.

Hakuoho should be fine this tournament. He fell because of choosing surgery to fix an old problem and is healthy now. He did go kyujo for a bit last tourney but it was not injury, he caught covid so had to sit out for a few days. There is really nothing to stop the kid from moving up the ranks easily. Other than that, its gonna be another weird basho

I was just wondering if Mr JWags has gotten a new haircut. Then he right away confirms my though. Bold would have been predicting Teru to finish the basho but not being in contention late in the basho. My bold prediction: 8 wrestlers from san’yaku or joi will not finish the tournament.

@@TheDohyoWith so many walking wounded and the heat of Nagoya putting extra pressure on the wrestlers body I am afraid this could get ugly. Who do you think Terunofuji will face first? Who would be a ”guaranteed” win? I am sure the deciding people do not want to see yokozuna losing and then stopping to play with the others.
