your rankings make sense, and i pretty much concur with who you put where this is a good video for new folks, to begin accessing differences between the current wrestlers

Hakuoho ended up with 5 wins so he's perfectly safe in Juryo; zero chance he goes down to Makushita when the banzuke comes out later today.
@qbreezy24173 ай бұрын
The biggest thing I disagree on is Onosato. I think he's clearly tier 1 by himself and after next basho you'll have him there too.
@TheDohyo3 ай бұрын
I think that would be great for sumo!
@icemanespoo29773 ай бұрын
Onosato is 0-3 vs. Hoshoryu and 1-2 vs. Kotozakura. Will be really interesting to see how that trio battles the rest of the year. Hope each stays healthy and day 13-15 we will see them going at it for the cup facing each other.

Hey there, Mr. Jwags I like your rankings. Are you planning a video on who to watch out for from Juryo/Makushita?
@TheDohyo3 ай бұрын
Right now, my thoughts on Juryo and Makushita are: I love Onokatsu and Satorufuji and then there is a lot of "wait and see."

@@TheDohyo I'm also excited about Aonishiki and Kusano, but we'll know a lot more after July/September as they are tested higher in Makushita

That's a lot of wrestlers in tier 3a. I'd love to see a video on the Kōshō seido system. I've only been watching sumo for a year and would love to hear your thoughts on whether this system would help Grand Sumo, or whether we'd see too many wrestlers skipping basho for small problems.
@TheDohyo3 ай бұрын
I have discussed kosho seido before. The problem is, in sumo, EVERYONE has some form of nagging injury. It was leading to several basho where the contenders had no one to fight Days 14-15, because too many san'yaku/joi had withdrawn early so they could hold rank. (You get Yokozuna facing Meg 7s on day 15 and the like) I think there should be a modified system that rewards continued attendance, but disincentivizes habitual withdrawal: 1: Upon entering Juryo for the 1st time, each wrestler gets one "hold," where they can hold rank in case of a kyujo-based make-koshi. 2: Upon the completion of NINE basho* with no kyujo, you can earn another "hold." *(the nine healthy basho do not have to be consecutive, just... whenever they finish nine, they get the "hold") 3: A wrestler can have a maximum of two total "holds," and they may be used consecutively. 4: "Holds" can't be used by the san'yaku, but they can use them after demotion. 5: Rikishi on "hold," take a 15% pay cut.
@discgolfdoug61933 ай бұрын
@@TheDohyo In order to incentivize competition, a hold could cap how far wrestlers drop. Maybe Maegashira wrestlers would only drop up to 3 ranks, while Komosubi/Sekiwake would only drop up to 2 ranks. Add that a wrestler must withdraw before day 4, and there shouldn't be any problems with poor schedules in the final week.
