But there is nevertheless a valid point somewhere in there - why is Taylor holding this press conference at Forrester Creations (which Brooke runs and owns the majority of), while still claiming it has nothing to do with Ridge and is only a way for Taylor to reclaim her identity? Taylor's identity is not connected with Forrester unless she is "coming out" _as Ridge's wife._ If the press conference was truly about Taylor's own life, as opposed to her status as Ridge's wife, she could have held it at her _own_ workplace.

Well, in this case I have to agree _somewhat_ with Brooke, not about the press conference itself, but about the location. Brooke does run the company at the moment, and yet she is supposed to host a press conference for someone who doesn't work there and never did, about something entirely unrelated to business. The only way that Taylor having the press conference at FC makes sense is if she is "part of the family" - meaning that she is Ridge's wife _and Brooke isn't,_ so Brooke hosting Taylor's press conference basically amounts to Brooke _giving up_ her status as Ridge's wife. And although Taylor says that the press conference is about her own life rather than about Ridge, the location of the press conference contradicts that. Having the press conference at FC clearly has elements of Taylor "staking her claim", and Brooke responds to this implicit challenge to her legitimacy in the family by trying to fight it. Taylor and Brooke are engaged in a status battle here.

It publicly calls into question her status as Ridge's wife. So in a way, I think the location does matter because of what it represents.

The second half of 1995 will revolve around some _really bad_ storyline ideas, with the writers realizing after a few months that the plots aren't working and then promptly abandoning them, with no lasting impact. Two of these half-hearted plot ideas are being introduced today - Eric/Taylor and Maggie/Dylan/Jessica. Both of these are awkward at best (and 🤢 at worst), and will ultimately go absolutely nowhere, leaving us wondering what the point was.

​@@NewYorkNick0607Yes, we'll make it through Taylor/Eric, Jessica's storyline and Rick's tantrums! 😂 I'd say there have been occasional _bursts_ of Brooke behaving better already, starting with her being a kind of sounding board for Jessica and Thorne in late 1994/early 1995, her intentions of giving back the stock and deciding to tell Ridge about Taylor, Sheila's goodbye party, and Brooke's upcoming decision to give Ridge space in Big Bear to make his choice. But the first thing that, to me, feels like a big shift in archetype is the paternity reveal/Barbados storyline because it paints Brooke not as simply "behaving well" but as an "innocent victim", which has _never_ really happened before. It's still a bit of an awkward fit because the actress doesn't necessarily evoke that kind of empathy, but it's something distinctly different from the writing for the character in the past, and it's clear in the writing that we are _meant_ to feel for her and root for her. This leads to a moment where Brooke actually _turns down_ a proposal from Ridge in order to focus on her children (!) and that's about where I'm at right now. I am not sure how long the "Good Girl Brooke" phase lasts, but by early 1997 she is kind of playing games with marrying Grant to make Ridge jealous, and later on in 1997 she is scheming with Thorne, at which point the phase is over.

I came here because this is the first episode with Barbara Crampton as Maggie Forrester. When I first saw this episode all those years ago it was the first time I ever saw Barbara.
