Thank you so much. I found your two videos about this shoulder rest and your general points about getting the right setup immensely helpful. I’m a professional violinist and nobody at the conservatoire where I studied taught me how to find the best setup and unfortunately I’ve ran into problems with back and neck pain. Thanks to your advice I’ve made some adjustments and playing the violin is gradually becoming a much more comfortable experience for me.

Wow, best vid on YT describing the the body planes involved and how rests are suppose to work in concert with the body. Added bonus for me is I'm also on the short stature and this vid proves that there is a shoulder rest that fits practically everyone. I stopped playing bc of neck injury and I'm just getting back to it, this rest is my best chance of enjoying the violin again. An immense thank you for your time and knowledge.

This has been the best info! I have been wrestling with my setup for months, which has in turn prevented me from developing a decent vibrato! I think I have the perfect setup now. Thank you so much!!! I have learned a great deal from you, I appreciate you!

Awesome (3) videos! Thank you so much! I am totally new to the violin and I have my very first lesson in three weeks but of course I am super impatient and want to just try a bit around and I thought I might bought the wrong shoulder rest because it feels not very comfortable but now I guess I can manage to make it fit properly. Thank you! Greetings from Germany!

I posted a thing about my home made shoulder support on the Red Desert Violin Practice Club page. I call it the "shelf" and it works better than any shoulder rest I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot of them. But there are downsides to the shelf, most notably that i have to clip it to the pocket of my pants with an elastic belt from a pair of suspenders. Then it stays on my shoulder, instead of on the violin. Not really a problem, but also not really convenient and rather strange looking. So today I spent the money and bought the Bonmusica rest. It should arrive in a week or so, and I'll be able to spend endless hours trying to get it perfectly adjusted. I don't have a lot of faith that it will be better than the shelf, but it isn't an either or situation. Between the two approaches I should eventually get the freedom and security I need. Your video will be a great help in getting this to happen. Thank you very much for this great video about how to adjust this particular kind of shoulder rest.

Zale....I wish there was a way you could post a photo of your "shelf", because it really is genius. But I also hope the Bon Musica works for you, because it's a little easier and doesn't involve back pockets!
@RedDesertViolin5 жыл бұрын
AND, I think people would probably buy your SHELF, should you decide to offer it.
@zaledalen99315 жыл бұрын
@@RedDesertViolin Oh my, I so like that word, "Genius". I have already posted something about my shelf at the Red Desert Violin Practice Club page. I'll see if I can find it and share it to Red Desert Violin. Nope, can't find it. I'll do a separate post to Red Desert Violin. My Bon Musica shoulder rest has arrived. I bought it specifically because it looks so good, and is obviously more adjustable than any shoulder rest I have tried. Plus your demo on how to adjust it was so good. I also bought it for the inconvenience you mentioned of needing to hook my "shelf" on to a back pocket to keep it secure. Unfortunately my first attempts to mount and adjust the new Bon Musica rest were quite disappointing. For the moment I've gone back to using the "shelf", but I will take another run at the Bon Music rest as soon as I find the time and serenity. For now I'm back to using the shelf and really liking it a lot the more i get used to it. I've never had a support that gave me this comfort and freedom to move my head and neck.

Okay, I reposted about my "shelf" to the Red Desert Violin Practice club on Facebook. facebook.com/groups/795544577465724/ I can't seem to post pictures to these KZbin comments. I'm not really interested in making and marketing "the shelf". But I would be happy to give any help or advice I could to anybody who wants to try making one. It's pretty simple, and could probably be done as well with felt and glue, rather than leather. If I was doing it again, I would use a lighter weight of aluminum so it would be easier to bend into shape, more like the metal used in the Bon Music rest. The advantage to using the weight I used is that it isn't going to change on me without a lot of applied force.

I'm so glad, thank you. I still use my Bon Musica whenever I have neck pain or tension....the Bon Musica eliminates it. I just wish it would fit inside my case. Someone needs to invent a Bon Mus carry case.
@TheSafierdrgn6 жыл бұрын
I have one of these as well...the thing I don't like about it is WHEN it collapses while you're playing(and it will), the metal on the shoulder side will gouge the instrument. Ended up putting some silicone tape over that sharp metal.
@RedDesertViolin6 жыл бұрын
This is very concerning. Bon Musica needs to make the main part of the shoulder rest out of slightly stiffer metal! It is REALLY flexible, and sounds like it's a recipe for disaster.
@ViolinTeachingResources6 жыл бұрын
I second that critique. I got a Bonmusica for comfort in long orchestra rehearsals. It slipped and banged into the back of my violin a lot. Maybe I was clenching down too hard? But when I upgraded to a more valuable violin I didn’t want to take the chance of damage. I’ve gone back to using a Wolf Forte Secundo like I had in high school, it never slips and is very adjustable. I am also a short violinist. Love your channel BTW!
@RedDesertViolin6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that input, VTR. I Love the Wolf Secundo as well.

After practising for an hour i just felt pain on my chest because of the feet’s screw and it really hurts, can you help me with this please?
@RedDesertViolin6 жыл бұрын
YES, go to the hardware store, get a little hacksaw, and cut the screw a little bit shorter. Don't lose the black cap off the end of the screw, or you'll snag the screw on clothing.

Hey Jean...I unpublished it because I drilled holes in it that weren't necessary, and I felt a little sheepish, but lots of people have asked me where it is, so I re-published it. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gomQpYF6jrZ2h7M and soon I will put out a Part 3, which shows how to make the adjustments without mutilating the poor thing. :-)
