This series of videos is so interesting, in part because it shows how a young talented and smart guy, with the right kind of support, can make a fine living today in the music business. Based on his own remarks, he was certainly way beyond gifted in the support department. But, all of us benefit in the end.

As for the overlap the answer is simple. Much like when a tv show is "To Be Continued", this series of videos wasn't meant to be watched all together on here. Therefore, each video has relevant footage from the last video that some people may have missed if they did not watch the prior video. Joe has taken blues, thrown in some rock and helped the genres evolve and spawn new sub-genres.

I heard about Bonamassa before but I didn't pay to much attention before, but when I started to heard this son "Just Got Paid" I got hocked, and well I see this Bonamassa Documentary, I tell to my self well probably is the same boring thing that company want us to hear. Well!! for my surprise!!! about the way they think about "company" is the way I think it should be, the way they do things!! Now Bonamassa win a new fan!! I love the way he play and sing and the way they do things, I'll be sure to have ALL HIS MUSIC AND DVD's tho my Praise and Honoring Collection.

I came in the middle of your career (maybe?). you had your hair slicked back and had a suit on. I thought who or what is this geek trying or pretending to be? You weren't pretending, but you weren't and are not a geek. By your own admission, you are a nerd. You seem very grateful and humble (be it an act or for real) it works. And you have a great voice, are a good writer and are a fucking incredible guitarist. I am coming from the Holdsworth School of legato so these are hard words to come from me ( and not begrudgingly) You are the best at what you do times three. And , you are from the school of not ripping people off when you know a lot more about vintage than they do. I quit dealing in 1981 because of how unpleasant it made me feel to just keep quiet when they were asking much less than it is worth ( an old lady on Social Security finished me off- I was not in a position to rectify this as I was an employee) so I quit a successful store I had been with for years that pre-dated Norn's by quit a bit. You humble me and deserve all you have.

This is learning life of music industry 101 from someone who knows. Strugglles happens in the beginning then you grow with hard ass work and then you are able to buy all rare guitars . Purist always want they artist to struggle when they are first found them as a fan , and kept them there it seems to be broke artist makes real to there music. Life has value , we will as most fan cherished those with no talent that makes lots of cash for a song that is good but not a master for a life , he's a master artist that should earn what he deserve.

Joe is taking a long route but he's earning "true fans". Unlike ones that sell millions of albums on initial release and after 2 years their shelf span is over. Where their music is written and produced and processed to the point that the artist is there to leave a pretty face on an album cover and has little personality in "their" album. As a guitarist in my mid 30s I am very jealous and envious of Joe. I played in a blues band in college and now I'm your typical working class fool. He is doing what he loves, he's pursuing his dream, and I'm happy for him and wish him the best of luck! He's fighting against odds today that Hendrix or Clapton never had to face.

You know, I always tend to think that it is thanks to talented people like Joe that we still have all the beautiful works of art that we can display and enjoy in museums around the world. Like I guess that Leonardo Da Vinci would have made a quick buck by painting quickly 100's of shitty paintings of naked girls for the horny people of his age, but instead he created masterpieces. It's the same with Joe - he could pretend to be cool guitar player, play in some shitty one season band to please an industry and everyone forgets about such musicians when the summer is over. But I think that people that really value good music will still listen to Bonamassa 20-30,.50 years from now - Just like we do listen to all the great Classical music or even great rock pioneers of 50-60's.

Joe is a fine guitar player and an even greater person, but intimating that his version of Lazy is in any way better than the original is just madness. I have no idea as to what part of him is unsurpassed or indeed what benchmarks he has broken. From an objective position, Joe is a superb guitarist who makes really good music. Why a lot of his fanboy element try and elevate him to something he really isn't is beyond me. Just let him get on with what he does and enjoy it !!

This business plan is an off-shoot of what Jamband greats Phish have accomplished....No single's, no radio play, no platinum studio record, producing and promoting their own shows, their own ticketing system and simply taking great live music to the people and letting the rest take care of itself for 30 years now. It works. It's been proven.

The one downside is the first 8 minutes of this video are just a repeat of the previous video in the series. There's really no need for that because if someone is watching #3 of 3 there's a pretty good chance they'll go back and watch 1 and 2.

well, "eclectic" isn't exactly the word that comes to mind when tryin' to classify what joe does. xtc, todd rundgren, henry cow, king crimson, allan holdsworth, mahavishnu orchestra, joni mitchell, these are the kinds of artists who'd fall under that category; joe's a blues & 70's rock, meat & potatoes kinda writer/player. the only influence of his mentioned in this series so far that'd qualify for eclectic is jeff beck. but there's nuthin' wrong with bein' a current/vital blues artist in this day & age, & it's pure joy to hear jb playin' it, but there's no reason to overstate the case. u don't need to be eclectic to be great...
@Panglos
@Panglos 10 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Anyone who thinks Joe's musical approach is "eclectic" has a pretty narrow range. Within his range, though, Joe has mastered and incorporated virtually every style, including fingerpicking, standard "tricks" (pull-ons/offs, hammers, etc.), extreme bends, shredding, etc., and the styles of greats such as Eric Clapton and lesser-knowns like Danny Gatton, a personal friend of Joe's and tremendous player. Unlike many players, Joe isn't limited to either technical proficiency (a la Vai, Satriai, et al) or emotive playing (like the blues greats). He can do it all.
@badmuddy
@badmuddy 10 жыл бұрын
ah, someone who got it straight away. young men get so pretzeled by another's observations of a player they deify, when MOST artistes just want to connect with the ears of strangers, know what i mean? after all, that IS the point, i'n'it...

I love Joe and his music but I wonder how 'famous' he actually is? Driving Towards The Daylight I think is his most successful album and he said it sold 150,000 copies. Most casual music fans have never heard of him and if you check out his audiences its mostly old fart guitar geeks (like me). Of course he tours endlessly and plays all over the world and has a ubiquitous presence on You Tube but its not like he will be playing the Superbowl Halftime show anytime soon...
@Veaseify
@Veaseify 10 жыл бұрын
I understand that, I just think we get a misleading impression of how big a name he is in the wider world of music..Like Doug Henthorn had never heard anything by him until he was asked to play in his band..
@Veaseify
@Veaseify 10 жыл бұрын
***** He sold out 4 venues with a combined capacity of less than 10,000, a fair percentage of which would be the same people watching him every time. My point about Doug Henthorn is that although he was a session singer and involved in the business for a long time, he hardly knew anything about Joe. This suggests his profile is not that high within the industry. I didn't say he's 'not popular enough' - what does that even mean? I am suggesting that his incredibly loyal fanbase have an inflated idea of exactly how well known he is outside the world of guitar geekdom..
@Veaseify
@Veaseify 10 жыл бұрын
***** Why so defensive? All I am suggesting is that he isn't as big a deal either than he should be or that his fans believe he is. In my opinion his music should be known by a much wider audience of people than it currently is. It's not uncommon to see posts re: his songs on KZbin from people who believe he's only been around for a couple of years. To me that's a crying shame and a terrible indictment of how mainstream media, including Radio stations, just ignore so many talented artists. Peace... :-)
@Veaseify
@Veaseify 10 жыл бұрын
***** I've been to the Borderline and the Hammersmith Apollo so I know what they hold, yes I had to check the Albert Hall though! I think we are at cross purposes here, I understand that Joe just enjoys having the fanbase he does and playing all over the world without huge mainstream success, I just feel like he deserves wider recognition but like you say, if he's not bothered why should I care?
