Today my sister and I made this recipe for our thanksgiving turkey and it was honestly delicious. Our turkey was larger at 17lbs but we just ended up adding extra ingredients as far as the basting sauce went. We also added some lemon peels as well. The skin was dark and crispy and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it tasted, I was woried the flavors wouldnt come through but they really did and all of my family enjoyed it. We'll most likely be doing this turkey again next year, so thank you Andy for the delicious recipe share!

Ended up making this. It got rave reviews from everyone. When cooked properly (taken out at 150° and left to rest for an hour) its extremely tender. I always do a wet brine. The turkey is so much juicer and had so much more flavor. I use one of those big, orange drink coolers (Igloo brand, I believe) which is insulated so it keeps the bird safely cool and has a spout for easy draining.
@aemmerich6 жыл бұрын
@@SleepStarvedNerd I think a dry brine might take a bit longer than a wet brine, but the dry salt will eventually work its way into the meat regardless. I think you do get more moisture absorbed into the bird with a wet brine, but I don't know that that definitely translates into a more tender, juicier finished product. The benefit of drier skin giving you a better crisp in the oven is pretty enticing, but can it offset the (presumably) lower moisture content of the meat? I'd also be curious to know if there's a significant difference in cook time between the two methods.

Getting a free turkey from work for thanksgiving and have been trying to figure out what to do when I get it, never cooked a whole bird before, this recipe is already my top contender!

90% of the comments are “hmm something seems off with this video quality. Edit: I just read the description it was captured on google pixel 3” and yea the video quality did look different

I made this for 2020 Thanksgiving. Its so good! I didnt have sherry vinegar so I used white vinegar instead and still tasted great. Instead of having the rosemary in the glaze, I put dried rosemary, thyme and bay leave infused butter under the skin and continued with the glaze as normal. I did not have to cook my thawed turkey for 3 hours though. After 1 hour and 15 minutes it was over 180°f. I did cook it at 350 instead of 300. I used the water and drippings at the bottom to make gravy as well. Delicious.

Even though the quality is different because of the Pixel 3, i don't mind it. It almost feels more on a one to one level or reminds me of old cooking shows from years ago. Really comforting.
