Explain.. both mortar mix and thinset are adhesives. Why do you suggest applying adhesive to adhesive? Mortar mix has bonding agents in it too. I don't see masons putting thinset slurry when they lay bricks and what not.

Hi Steve. I’m about to do some concrete patch repair on my 40 square foot bathroom. I found this video wry helpful. By using this method with thin set, does that eliminate the need for a primer on the old concrete. It’s a very small bathroom.

Dude awesome this is exactly what i was looking for. Please if you are reading this, have you ever tried mixing the concrete mix with the thinset? An old man showed me results on a deteriorating brick wall and it was solid...no hollow noise with the hammer test. Sadly he passed away and never got the ratio of the mix. He told me the thinset properties helped with the bonding in the pores of the block. He also used a sponge with a watered thinset mix before he applied it.

Ok, so would this work ok as a slurry repair in a wet area then? I just saw your PVA video and you were saying PVA slurry wouldnt work for a shower base repair.

Is that Quikrete Sand and Topping Mix you are using overtop MAPEI polymer thinset?

No that bag of sand topping was sitting there from another video. That mix is brick sand and portland cement (type GU)

@@Swimmingpoolsteve - Any reason to think the Sand and Topping Mix would be any different than your mix if applied in the same 1-inch or less depth spread?
