Bonding With My 5 Month Old Chinchilla!

For everyone being rude about her getting him from a breeder: just stop. Obviously she did her research on the breeder so I’m 99.999% sure she got him from a reputable breeder that takes good care of their chinchillas and does it properly. She could’ve went to a rescue, but that doesn’t mean the rescue she went to was good. The rescue could be bad or not properly care for their chinchillas and maybe she didn’t wanna give her money to them. Regardless everyone has their reasons for buying from different places. I got mine from pet smart and I don’t think I will in the future Bc the staff is very uneducated on chinchillas where I went, but I’m so glad I got mine from there Bc I take mine to the vet every year and when I first got mine he had Ghardia which is contagious to humans and it was early stages and got cleared up quick. Had I not bought him, he could’ve been dead or spread it to someone else. Either way people have different reasons so don’t judge them for going somewhere. He is so cute love your videos and hope people stop being rude ❤️

I really wish people would stop sh*tting on ALL breeders in general. There's a ton of breeders who I prefer to call PSEUDO-breeders because that's what they are. They are those who breed purely for money, keep the cages as small as possible, animals crowded, minimum care, not caring about WHO will buy the animal, etc, etc. However, there are also those who do their best at what they do, and they do it right. There's a huge difference. Get this straight, people, do your research and learn about the god damn difference!

I had 2 guinea pigs, and when one of them died the other one was so sad that it never moved from the spot, all he ever did was go eat then go back to same spot. Then I received another one from a friend, then he started to play and have fun again.

Honestly I truly believe when you say that breeders really care for chinchillas. I recently bought 2 adoreable gray chinchillas from a out of town breeder. This woman absolutely amazing. She goes to meetings, events and make sure to give/have everything you need for the chinchillas. There’s not a lot of places out there that I could find chinchillas in my area. It’s really great to fine people out there that is supporting these little peeps💕

Zorro is so gorgeous! I have a chinchilla that has two dark spots on her back. I totally agree with you on how people acquire their pets. It's your choice on where you acquire them. I bought one from Petco (technically two, but one passed away. Both boys), one I took over from my nephew (he is allergic. Also a boy) and one I rescued from being tossed outside in Nevada. The one I rescued from Nevada turned out to be a girl and I had an oops litter. I love all 5 of my chinchillas. Love your channel. You do an awesome job and your very informative. wow, that's pretty rude for someone to tell you that you're being selfish. like you've said before it's a 20 year commitment. a reputable breeder means that they are bred to be healthy. That's a good thing. And statistically when people pay a good amount of money for an animal they take good care of them. Seriously, I paid $800 for my dog, she's an angel and I do not know what I would do without her. of course I could go buy a dog at the shelter for a fraction of the cost. And I have done before, but I had my reasons. There is nothing wrong with you going to a good breeder!

My chinchilla was scared the first couple of days but he actually adjusted really quickly which surprised me and now we have a very strong bond🙃Before getting him I knew that chinchillas don't like to be held to much so I'm surprised how he doesn't mind and he let's hold him for a LONG time😁🥰😍

Ignore the haters love.You are a wonderful chin owner.We just got our chin Kiki from petsmart only because there are no good breeders near us.We left kiki alone for the first 3 days.She's 8 weeks old.We can carry her already & she loves being pet.She wants to be close to us.We don't force anything.BTW..we looked at all your vids to learn about them & what to do but you are right...all Chins are different.Kiki seems to like to be with people & intetact with us.She loves cuddles.We want to thank you for your vids.It has helped so much.Keep it up because we look towards you for advice.Much love😍

I wish the pet stores would not be shut down but reformed... Like the prison reformations, and also the meat-packing industry before Teddy Roosevelt was president. There needs to be change, but not a shut down. However, places like Reptiles By Mack, and most exotic animal breeders which is where Petco and PetSmart reptiles and animals come from, should be shut-down. They are no-good animal mills!! Also, PETA needs to stay out of it. They take things way too far, fly off the handle, hate 4-h, want everyone to be vegan, and lie about/stage fake animal mills where they video tape fake "undercover" videos of the organization PETA tourturing animals for the "views" and "awareness". PETA needs to be shut down. They do more harm than good...

I don’t have a chinchilla but I have a rabbit , I got her when she was 5 months old she. Was just so scared of me and the house, and my mom’s dog... I got her use to upstairs, and me , I let her come to me. Then I let her get use to the stairs , and then I let her get used to the dog , cus he was just so hyper and happy to see her , she was scared of his sudden movements , I had to give him death stares to behave , he was gentle to her , the process took a while but it was worth it , she loves people now and every now and then I take her to my moms house and she would play with her dog, my rabbit loves being pet , she always demands to be petted. It’s so cute , and man oh man she has such a personality... it shows

I got my third babe from local breeder last week, he is so cute and very well took care by his breeder. I think breeder is always more knowledgable for specific animal that general pet store. they always want to find the best owner to take good care of their chins as well, and willing to give lots lots of good recommendations and supports.

I got my baby girl From petco is really hard to find a breeder in NYC I would have to travel Out of the city and honestly they charge way more $300 and up. my baby was $175 she has been with me 2 almost 3 weeks now she is 5 moths old and looks healthy very active yet shy she is still getting to know us ofc . So no I don’t judge u at all!! To me it don’t matter we’re the pet is from as long as u got it to love and care for them💕 beautiful btw!! And thanks for ur channel I have been learning a lot ! ❤️

There are few local breeders in my area that have decades of work and breed show quality chins. I chose them because I know my chin will have the best genes possible and of course I would love for her to be healthy. So props to the non backyard breeders out there who really care about their chins!

I have my two chins in a three story cage. Hope you build one of the your two story ones into a three story cage. But two chins in one cage equals epic poop!!! LOL So glad you got Merlin a playmate.

Open the cage and let your chinchilla free to get used to his surroundings before you lock him up with you in a bathtub, he will crapp evrywhere and you will have to clean. Dont go after him, let your chinchilla decide for himself if you are a good person. After your chinchilla gets used to his surroundings he will be interested in you, even in your video he just wants to know were he is. They cannot talk so you must be able to read his behavior. And last but not least, use a bowl to give your chinchilla fresh water every day, those bottles will stop working after a while, you will notice it when hes spending the whole day trying to get water. Bonding takes time, take your time, i know that i would be in good hands if i was your chinchilla, you take good care of it keep it up! I did this process with my bunny and now im her dog, she takes good care of me.

I'm on your side I went 2 a breeders for my newest chin, I did rescue my original 2 and it took best part of 2yrs to get where I am now with my new chin. Plus its no1 else's business what how or when u do anything hun. U said ud take tips on bonding...I use a handful of nature's salad and then slowly start smoothing them. So 1st day I'll just let them eat out my hand...then nxt day ill try scratching the head between the ears then as it continues I'll slowly start stroking down their back works for me. however I can't get in a bath as I have a shower. Hope bonding is going well looking forward to ur next video's bye x

TBH, the reason why I do not recommend Petsmart is that you could get a sick animal and end up spending so much vet free, which happened to me, or "return the product" that you love and never see him/her again. I never had a bad experience buying animals from pet shop until I did recently. I recommend (good) breeders because, at least, they are responsible for the health for at least few weeks or years (for genetic disease).

I first checked the rescue for chinchilla. There was 1 chinchilla, but she would only let be adopt that chinchilla if she had a mate for him. So I have to wait maybe forever. So I bought 2 chins and now I am asking that I can adopt him as well and try to pair him with them. Not all rescues have chinchillas and the chin from the rescue is already 4 years old. A few years ago they had 2 chins at the rescue and they were already 10 years old. Poor chins.

Amazing! I just got mine, he is energetic but shy. At the pet store they didn't have a correct setup so he can't find his hay/food yet. I'm trying to hand feed him, todays the second day I got him. He took a little timothy hay from me, so thats progress. :D

Im glad you dont judge people for getting animals from petsmart. im getting a hamster from there tomorrow because i cannot rescue from craigslist (social distancing baaabeeyy) and there are pretty much no hamster breeders in my city, let alone STATE. its my only choice and when I hopefully get more animals in the future i will not go to Pet stores to get them. Sometimes it really is your only choice, whether its the best option or not. :(

Tbh idk where mine originally came from because my sister got him for me from a friend of hers due to her friend not having the time for him, I got him when he was a year old now 2 and he is such a trip, his name is Gus and we are still working on bonding and trust, but he is my little man and my bundle of joy, we got him after having to put my hedgehog down due to health issues, and am currently upgrading his cage, trying to get rid of all of the items that are plastic, and letting him have more play time outside of his cage, we are bonding well and hopefully he will except me as his official companion soon💙💙

Been watching Merlin and this channel Since December. Most definitely my inspiration for getting one . I can’t wait to get mine . I’m in Houston and I’m at the top of the list to get mine once they’re stocked at PetsMart !
