As someone who cleans pools for a living, I gotta say it's quite funny to see duckling wrangling on tv!!!!! Every spring we have to catch ducklings out of pools and the submarine ducklings are the funniest. When it's a well maintained pool and the water is crystal clear you can see them zip around underwater and they get so confused when you're there to catch em when they come up!!!! @specialbudgies42172 жыл бұрын
Ahaa, totally! We rescued a duckling when I was a little girl, she was only a day or two after hatching and the lady wanted to just dump her to the local victorian style zoo with the adult ducks, so of course we took her in. We were worried that the clorine in the pool was not suitable for a tiny creature, so when the time came for Kate (I'm awesome with duck names, I know) to learn to swim we took her outside in a large laundry basket full of water. At first she was afraid of the water, but after a few dips, she went bananas. One moment she was here, splashing about, the next she was speeding towards the pool with me covered in water. Pretty sure my mum still has a photo of me drenched and a tiny yellow dot in the background. She had the time of her life in the pool, and I was really excited every time she zoom underwater, it was impressive, but we never took her out again. We've got hawks here, giant magpies and other amazing wildlife that wants to eat your pets (only this summer a kestrel attacked my budgies, thank goodness I was only a foot away to shoo it away). Finally we gave her to the park she was going to be dumped in, but only after she was an adult and could take care of herself. We'd visit often to see her, it was easy to find her because she had some black markings on her beak and she was the only duck that approached us not to beg for food but cuddles! Oh I miss Katie.
@carlyl20932 жыл бұрын
@@specialbudgies4217 yeah the chlorine is bad for ducklings, but the reason pools are primarily bad for them is because they can hop in but can't hop out and eventually get too exhausted to swim anymore. They can also get sucked into the skimmer and get stuck which is very sad because it can be fatal. That's why we always try to catch and release ducklings away from pools and discourage ducks from swimming in pools. That sounds really sweet that you rescued a duckling as a child! I'm happy you got that experience to raise her so she could be a happy duck 😊

@@OGimouse1 the problem is that the owners was sexually frustrating their bird and given him an extremely bad diet. Ekkies are really sensitive to a fatty diet, more that other parrots. They need a low fat diet and all she gave him was carbs and fats. She is not spoiling him with that diet. That bird is not gonna feel very good and probably have many internal problems already that can only get fixed with a healthy diet. I personally experience a lot that when people say they are spoiling their pet, they are feeding them a bad diet or too much and causing the animal a lot of health problems. Spoiling shouldn’t equal bad pet care, but sadly it often does.

Ok a lot of problems with the bird CLEARLY: 1) The diet the lady is keeping him on, or in her words "spoiling him" with, is VERY high in fat... All that... Will lead to a lot of health problems in the bird. 2) the moment the lady takes him she stokes ALL THE WAY down his body... It is common bird care knowledge that no matter how much you love a bird you should know the boundaries. The only area that you should pet/stroke is the head and neck area. Back, wings, stomach etc.... All these will lead to the bird getting hormonal... And as seen with this bird leads to aggresion. 3) bad handling, the reason why the bird is being aggressive towards the man is not just because he is jealous/hormonal, but also because the bird does not trust him in any way. The man is moving his hand around vigorously making the bird lose its balance, try to make the bird feel safe with you... Please. In conclusion.... That family IS NOT SUITABLE to have a bird... That bird is slowly being KILLED... either they stop that outright torture that they call "spoiling" or they learn and take to the good bird care methods that can be easily researched on the internet.

Most people who get pets are clueless. You can't just point out bird owners... how many dog owners know Aconitum. Amaryllis bulbs. Asparagus fern. Azalea. Bluebells. Cyclamen. Daffodil bulbs. Day lilies. To name a few, are plants that can harm your dogs?
@marianagama44642 жыл бұрын
@@H1GH.FL1Y3R yeah but information for other animals is available everywhere with birds its much harder. the thing is even the breeders cant give good informations about the birds .. some do just a few. the breeders should be more active on this plus more information on the pets in general

@@alexlow5192 oh, I'm so glad. Usually birds that have plucked to such a degree (that patch on his back was fully bald!!) don't get their feathers back if they've damaged the follicles. Having an endangered species like the cassowary wanting to mate in a zoo without human intervention is incredibly rare. Even so, its wonderful that the cassowary as a species will add some more animals to their endangered status because of this zoo.

By the introduction alone, I deduced that the original source of this aggression is the way that the lady is touching the bird. You're not supposed to touch birds below the neck or it may trigger a hormonal state that causes the bird to emotionally fuse to one individual and try to stave off any others. But, being that this bird has been in this hormonal state for such a long time, it's psychologically taking a toll on him. Hence the feather plucking. I'm sure that lady has been touching him below the neck since he was obtained.

@@pandap4ntz Most birds are seen as "exotics" & are treated by a specialist and not general vets. Giving him anxiety meds won't do anything when she's still touching him, giving him seed which is high in fats & promotes breeding behavioir, and is territorial. I feel really bad for the eclectus, his diet is terrible, they way the husband yells at him is definitely not the way to discipline a bird, and the petting is 100% why the bird is frustrated. I have a female eclectus and have raised and trained neglected parrots for years, so I know what I’m talking about. Eclectuses need at least 35-50% of their diet to be fruit and vegetable based, it’s incredibly important for them. Seeds and nuts are good, but all parrots need fruits and vegetables, some more than others. If a parrot is aggressive it’s usually because they’re hormonal or have been abused. Abused birds can be corrected with lots of love and training, but sexually frustrated ones need stimuli like petting stopped (if needed, medications that are safe to discourage hormones), and if they act on hormonal tendencies then they need to be put in a time out for a few minutes when they act up, they’ll catch on. Hormones aren’t the birds fault, but if they stick to habits based around them, they can be corrected.
