When we had dogs, we were broke. So broke that when our oldest dog (3 yrs old) got sick, we put off paying our power and heat in the middle of a Canadian winter for a month to pay for the vet to fix him when he got sick, and the next month, we ate soup and crackers rather than buy the usual groceries and put that towards the vet bill - and the month after that, paid half the rent at the beginning of the month and then went out and collected bottles and cans on the side of the highway to pay the rest of the rent. If you aren't willing or able to pay for their care, don't get a pet. We're doing better financially 25 yrs later but we did whatever was required to keep those babies healthy for as long as they were with us (and one was with us for 20 years!) Now we have cats - and it is the same with them. We do what we can to keep them healthy and happy and give them the best life they deserve. They aren't toys. They aren't disposable. Get them fixed. Get them vaxxed. Keep them healthy and don't desert them just because you don't want to pay a vet to help care for them. If you can't do it or are unwilling to do it, get a stuffed animal instead.

Hmmm I think that's an over simplification of just starve yourself to pay for your pet. What if it's their kids? What if it's a choice of keeping a pet vs having a roof over your head? What if they had gone through a tragic loss and can't will themselves to do more? There's alot behind the reason for leaving pets behind. Don't judge if you can sit and bad mouth owners then why not volunteer to house them and keep them out of the shelters? People have forgotten or ignore putting compassion toward their fellows but have all the compassion in the world for animals. It's sad. Sure all animals need care but why is it that that care costs so much? Why is the prices so skewered that keeping a pet healthy, or saving their lives, costs just as much as paying for a house? Why don't they allow payment plans for pet owners who can't afford 10k for surgery? The issue isn't solely on owners but with medicine prices overall. It's much too expensive for what a single person can put out.
@jennifermassey64583 жыл бұрын
I LOVE how the vets on this show bluntly state that so many people have no business having a pet. Also how they are letting people know how much it effects animals to be abandoned. And before anyone says how some people can't afford a vet visit....most vets will let you do payments.

I've had the same vet for over 20 years now and I'm still unable to do any sort of payment plan with them! So NO not all vets allow payment plans ... Pet owners get into owning a pet with the idea they will have vet bills, but an annual vet check is nothing compared to thousands of dollars worth of emergency surgery .... That is the key word, emergency .... 1. Emergencies do not happen all the time! 2. Not everyone has the disposable income for that kind of emergency, even if it were for a human child! 3. Not everyone is quick to get rid of their animals when an emergency comes about. In the end most people are still are able to give an excellent loving home!

maybe the bill shouldn't have been extraordinary? yes I agree it's disgusting but medical shouldn't cost you and arm and a leg when it's necessary for life! the vets condemn people but then merrily charge you 10000 dollars for a procedure. maybe the bills for medical human and pet should be standardized so no vet can charge you what they think it should be worth and not what it's really worth. my health insurance forces the doctor to charge a standardized price for each procedure and will not pay them at all for substandard care. and the laws where i live make it malpractice to give substandard care due to income. and there is a set price they can charge for care that is necessary. but it's not like that with vets and that's also part of the problem. work with your customers. let them pay in stages for things 1000 and over. you'd have less cases of neglect that way. not everything is just the owner's fault guys. no one talks about how medical bills are just to high. i have pets i pay thier bills even while i think this. and i'll pay it until it changes but damn man some people have to choose. and they shouldn't have to.

@@Atlazuko You are an idiot you do not even know the cost here and no most vets charge what they have to its not cheap doing so many life saving procedures to flat out refuse to pay for a dogs care is sick she did not ask to get pregnant they did it to her when she was too young and little they knew it then they abandoned her and her babies they showed their true colors and I am glad she is not in their care anymore because they never loved her my last girl dog a Pomchi I did think at one time would it be sweet if she had a puppy or 2 but I knew that she was not ready she was my baby and that was enough a pregnancy would have stressed her Sadie seems to be a good mommy but the issue is she looks to be a pup herself and too small to have to have gone through what she did thankfully God pulled her and her pups through it and now they will go on to new homes and Sadie will live her best life

For those getting puppies, reputable breeders typically won’t give them to you until they are around 10-12 weeks of age. Most puppies can be fully toilet trained by this timeframe, and it allows more time for socialisation, leading to a better adjusted puppy and happier new puppy parents as a result.

Shar Pei's are the DNA disaster of the dog world. I had a Shar Pei who was Honeys color and bigger. I volunteered at a Shar Pei rescue, which are far and few between, but I learned a lot about them. I did the intropion surgery on his eyes. The most crucial thing about Shar Pei's that they need a lamb diet. Pumpkin is really good for them also. You also have to be VERY careful when picking a brush for their coat. The ones with sharp bristles will damage their skin. Their life span is short, 8 years or so. You have to be on top of their ears because air does not get inside to keep them from getting infections as well as the folds in their skin. The one I had was an absolutely wonderful dog. Everyone adored him. I had a lot of people offer to buy him...lol. They always got a resounding NO! You should have experience with dogs before getting a Shar Pei because they can be very dominant and despite their size they are very strong, deceptively so.

When people abandon their pets they need to think of a child or niece/nephew being abandoned. Think about how scared they would be, how frightening the whole situation would be? Stop doing that…..rather cruel. Also, research the animal you want to adopt or buy. Remember that surgery and care of your pet is expensive….get insurance to cover those costs.

It could be a virus or perhaps something stuck up his nose. If you're *ever* uncertain about whether to take an animal to the vet's, phone them. Explain the circumstances and they'll give you advice. They won't call you in "because they want to make money". They call you in because they don't want to see an animal in distress too late. Hope all is well now.

-Every pet I've had mostly cats , except for the budgie when I was a kid Ive left the bedroom door open and every one of them has ended up snuggled up next to me in the bed . I ye don't want to share your bed with a pet then don't get a pet

This is precisely why I don’t have a pet. I can’t afford to take care of one!!!!!!
