This game has a very special place in my heart. The fact you're still building/readding things into it makes me happy because there's just so much extra potential you can play with this. I bought a lil too much into the meme Alyx is going to be super identical and I was saddened when I was confronted with no jumping/climbing mechanics beyond ladders. It was a good game nonetheless though. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the new maps and gun. I hope you guys plan to add more weapons in the future and ideally a map editor/with a workshop support. Workshop support for this game would bolster the hell out of the VR community in giving unlimited freedom with your game's potential to be deeply explored.
@sqlevolicious4 жыл бұрын
Fyi, the biggest difference is due to HLA being a game that anyone can jump into and play, and even those sensitive to motion sickness will not have to worry. Hardly anyone can play Boneworks without motion sickness. Boneworks is only for very advanced VR players, and even then, we got incredibly motion sick from the bounce-y disconnected virtual horizon (I got acclimated in about 4 hours). Boneworks set out to prove that people want full freedom and can acclimate to motion sickness. The problem is that Valve is right and SLZ were wrong. Most people are going to enjoy HLA over Boneworks because of comfort. In regards to workshop support, Boneworks will never have it, the engine is locked down due to how fragile the engine is. HLA however is open for full modding here pretty soon once hammerhead and source 2 SDK drop very soon.
@Woogoo3364 жыл бұрын
"A lot of the features in Boneworks become really natural when you get used to them and other games feel really strange when they lack those features" This was an issue for me going to HLA. I'm so used to the freedom of Boneworks and the quality weapons there and in Pavlov that HLA was no more than a good looking movie for me. I couldn't immerse myself because of the lack of arms or any form of body presence (even the vest outline in pavlov is enough for me there) and the gunplay felt very anemic and uninteresting. It just felt like a modern quality game on PC with a VR camera and some motion control features thrown in. I understand how this would be fun for someone taking up VR for the first time, but for me it just felt totally unfinished as a full VR game. I could honestly have enjoyed this game just as much with keyboard and mouse as in VR. It's got a good story and it looks good, but it doesn't feel as satisfying to play as games from other devs.

I came back after playing HLA and BW still scratches an itch that HLA can't. Not only with 2-handed weapons, but with the more realistic 1911. The enemies are also more reactive, and it's nice to have melee options again.

I fully agree. BW has been able to develop both better weapon feel and easier backpack function than HLA, in my opinion.

@M0TYSHIZ4 жыл бұрын

Personally, Boneworks was significantly better (mechanically) than Alyx. Imagine if Stress Level Zero and Valve worked together on the next title? Boneworks mechanics with Valve world building? Could be an earth shattering title for VR.
@BTechno-hp4kd4 жыл бұрын
Alyx was designed to be the "perfect VR beginner title". Easy to play, easy to use etc. If you throw an index at someone`s head and say "Play Boneworks!" this Person would take a break after a couple of minutes or he/she starts to vomit after some more. Boneworks is a far more advanced physics title than HL:A, but that is also it`s curse. The only real difference between the two, in my opinion, are the physics based bodies of all Boneworks characters and their interaction. I assume (not only) because of that is the physics engine in Boneworks a lot more performance-hungry.
@Cheapcouches4 жыл бұрын
I agree, with the exception of the grabbity gloves. The gloves are such a simple mechanic, yet feel so much more satisfying and (in my experience) reliable than the force powers you have in Boneworks. It'll be hard to go back.

With that said, there were quite a few times where I found myself thinking about how cool it would be if I had the freedom you have in boneworks. If it seems like you should be able to do something (e.g. climb something, push something, hit an enemy in some unexpected way, etc.), chances are you can in boneworks. HLA is a much more handheld, controlled experience. I totally understand why valve went with that direction but I hope they are more ambitious for their next game because at this point the player creativity in boneworks is unmatched.
