Many years ago, back when I was doing heroin, I listened to this song a lot. I've been clean for 7.5 years now, and I just listened to it again for old time sake. I cried so hard. Good lord, this song is intensely emotional. I can't put my finger on it, I don't fully understand the meaning of the song, but I think I *feel* it perfectly.

this song really holds a special place in my soul. when my dog of 16 years passed, I played this on a loop (with a couple other tunes) for hours. Not sure why it brings a tear.

Songs stick that way. After my dog died the first song i heard was "tangled up in blue" and i cant hear the song without thinking of him.

I have never thought i'd struggle with the idea of death so much, since i was always able to let go the people who left around me. But i look into darkness thinking about the passing of my dog. He is hopefully still some years away from it, but i'll keep in mind, that those songs helped you and gave that grief a face.

Lyrics: I'd be riding horses if they'd let me Sleep outside at night and not take fright I would ride the range and never worry I would disappear into the night Everybody needs an angel But here's that devil by my side Death's head ring upon his finger Poor boy hanging on the light They'll be drawing straws inside the courtroom As the sudden twilight turns to black Torches burn into the sad eyes On the wrong side of the track Make those horses jump through hoops of flame They won't kick and they won't scream Let the good lord do the driving Poor boy sinking in the stream I can smell the campfires burning But I'll go out walking on my own By day and night the world keeps turning Frightened people hiding in their homes Everybody needs an angel But here's that devil by my side Death's head ring upon his finger Poor boy hanging on the light

Fell in love with this song about 10 yrs ago; never realised it was written by a bunch of white middle class arty punk students called the Mekons ... who I used to love back in '78 along with their pals The Gang of Four.
@eleanorgatewood44086 ай бұрын
Wrong it was written by Sally Timms
@Umbrey_Dunctum6 ай бұрын
@@eleanorgatewood4408 as you may well remember the mekons functioned as some sort of collective and "anyone could be a mekon" The song is listed as being written by Sally Timms (lyrics ) and Jon Langford. Presumably it was played by the mekons if not recorded by the mekons and Sally was a member of the mekons.
