In 1977 I was a sailor in the US Navy and was somewhere at sea when I first heard Bonnie's excellent cover of Del Shannon's Runaway. As soon as my big feet were on dry land I went out and bought Sweet Forgiveness. This was one of my favourite tracks on that fabulous album, and is still a favourite today. Be safe Bonnie.

There is no one better than Bonnie Raitt. I love her voice, style, class and ability to play slide guitar. Really how many women can play the blues. There hasn't been many, if any, like her, ever. Here we are 3 years and (3 years exactly from the date this was posted) after the pandemic and I just got a message from my health care provider saying the pandemic is officially over one month from today, May 11, 2023. Bonnie gives John Prine a lot of love. He died 3 years + 3 days ago.

Even though it is sad that John is gone I refuse to be sad ...there is enough saddness in the world and I really think that John wouldn't want us to be sad ... All I can say is that I thank the Universe that I was alive when John roamed the Earth the same time as me and got to hear his wonderful songs and experience his thoughtful soul. Rest in Peace John..you have earned it

Thank you Bonnie. I watched a John Prine Special on Austin City Limits last night and though I don’t recall the name of the song, John sang with a big smile on his face about going to heaven and forgiving the people that had done him wrong, he even sang about smoking a cigarette nine miles long. He walked off stage with the biggest grin on his face that I have ever seen on him. Always smiling, always quick with humor and wit. RIP John.

In the late 80s or early 90s I was at Antone's in Austin, anxiously awaiting who I would see perform. To my surprise, the woman next to me at the bar -- you! -- was called up to the stage to perform. I had been a huge fan of yours since forever but hadn't thought to look to my left. I'm also a huge fan of Karla Bonoff's songwriting artistry, and of course there is no match for John Prine. Thank you for providing this comforting and hopeful song at a time when we are feeling such loss and uncertainty. ~Val

Great story, Michael, but this Houston homeboy has you beat by about two decades. Right around the time of her 1971 debut album (possibly '72 touring her second LP), I saw Bonnie at Liberty Hall in downtown Houston. I must have been a high school sophomore, and was music & entertainment editor of our daily (!) school paper. We had little media cards made up for us staffers, and I eagerly showed mine to Bonnie backstage after the show. Remember the year, now, for her response, without missing a beat: "Now I know you're a narc!" A sweet lady, and I've been a fan of her through the decades, especially appreciative of her giving props to other songwriters (Prine, Karla Bonoff, and many more), and calling attention to the financial plight of the great old blues singers she grew up listening to, but whose record labels shafted them in their deals.

I’ve got you both beat. About 10 years ago my friends mother graduated. She had a big bbq party at her friends house. Her friend is a little known musician named Van Wilkes. he’s friends with the guys from ZZ Top, Joe Walsh, Charlie Sexton and I’m sure a few more folks. Anyway, after eating I met a girl and went to the pool. There was a guy sitting there alone playing a bunch of Eagles songs. He was really good and told us to come closer. We got about 5 ft away and I realize it’s Joe Walsh. Pretty soon a few more folks came over and there was about 50 of us sitting around the pool. Anyway, point of the story is that BOB DYLAN was just hanging out inside the house looking at all the guitars. The guy has a studio in his house and had about 100 guitars all over the walls. Dylan had a show the next night at The Backyard and apparently he came to the bbq with Charlie Sexton( bob’s guitarist). I’m a huge Bob Dylan fan and I was within 15 ft of him all night and never knew it! The way I found out about it is that the next night on stage he made a comment about how good the barbecue is in Austin Texas. He said “ Charlie took me to a bbq yesterday, but no one asked me to play. I still haven’t gotten over it.

@@JamieAndersonMusic Yes me too. I always buy my tickets far in advance, with top performers like Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor. I have already bought my tickets to see Roger Waters in July. However I no longer trust our governments managing of this virus. They are not doing mass testing, which means more Canadians will get sick and die. I'm questioning now what their real agenda is because it's not supporting and caring for Canadians. Anyway it is a possibility that they may have to also cancel Roger Waters in July. Go Well!

A word to Bonnie: thank you for the love, support, inspiration, and wisdom you've given to millions of people, me included. 2020 has been a ride, that's for sure. Personally, I lost my older brother in September and then my father in November. My pop was my mentor and provider but as I grew older, he became my best friend. Dad encouraged me when I started playing guitar in 1982, even tho he didn't have a musical bone in his body. It was a great time for music and I dreamed I could play like Van Halen, Rhoads, Yngwie, Satch, May, Slow Hand, Page, Beck, Carlton, Stevie Ray, Robben... there's an endless list of great guitarists that fascinated, inspired, and charmed me. If I could play guitar with anyone past or present....it would be with Bonnie Raitt.

Dear Bonnie, I have always loved your music and own several of your albums. I saw you open for the Stones at Dodger Stadium a few years ago. I came to the concert very early and remember sitting in the stands watching you and a couple of guys looking towards the stage. I almost went up to you and said something but I was to shy and self aware to do so. Anyway I love you and your career and wish you the best at this difficult time. I tell everyone who will listen about your music. All the Best, James Hanson

TkU Bonnie, for this. Your music got me thru so many yrs of struggles due 2 being a lifetime complex chronic pain person. We're about the same age! Was born in 50's with deformities! 1 incurable pain disease spiraled into 8, very quickly ... I'm sorry about John, we know how near + dear he is to you. I'm from Boston + saw u prob 7 x's. I have pic of you + me when u did meet + greet up in VT to help feed the hungry. A very cherished photo. My many pain diseases got the best of me after 18 major orthopedic surgeries, crippling me b4 the yr 2000! The most music I own from any one musician is yours. I know Boston is special 2u! I miss it there as am now in AZ. I have lots of memorabilia of yours which is also very cherished. So very sorry for all the special people you have lost, many close together. I relate to that, too. :( You are a very, very special person, whom again, got me through so many troubling times in life; both on the personal front and physical challenges which I did NOT allow to keep me DOWN until crippled at 40; even though I lived every minute of every day in non stop excruciating pain since age 14 and still do to this day. I now live at home in a hospital bed for 20yrs. God bless you and thank you for all of your raw, honest and beautiful music. Your voice is still as beautiful as ever. Many Blessings! 🤩

There was an open mic I used to go to and there was an old man who used to sing 'I Can't Make You Love Me' and he played a ukulele like I do. I didn't know it was the same song but he put so much emotion into it that I would have to leave in the future times he would play it because it got me so upset and how shallow the world can be. I never got close enough with anyone Teixeira real love let alone have them fake it and even want to try to appease me what make me happy. At the same time that is one of the most utest of songs and realist songs and best songs it is the absolute worst song in the world because it invokes a pain within the heart that I feel about someone that everybody can. I hope that you did not have to enjoy her the Perpetual cycle of hurt throughout your life. There's always tomorrow. Thank you for sharing. 💚🌿

Have always loved you, Bonnie! Both you and the dearly departed John Prine helped me get thru the ‘70’s and beyond. The sound of your (and John’s) voice will be forever cherished in my heart. BTW: as a Musical Theater guy I always loved the sound of your dad’s voice too

I'm a passing stranger who was here for a song and to grieve for john prine but I was blessed by seeing the post about what you're doing,I was just telling someone the other day about how there are still so many decent, generous, helpful people still out there and you just helped to prove my point again! God bless you,He said whatsoever you do unto the least of these you do unto me,at a time like this it might be just as important as food or water. At least with a mask its safer to go get stuff,I BELIEVE GOD IS GOOD AND WILL BLESS YOU ABUNDANTLY FOR YOUR KINDNESS.

I met you and John Prine and Jim Croce on 16 Dec 1972 at Glassboro State College. Your flight was delayed due to snow and John and Jim jammed until your arrival. It was a great night and a great concert. Thank you for all of the blessings all of these years. Bless you and yours!

That was so heartwarming, and comforting. We are in Chicago, so we grew up listening to John, and Steve Goodman, and Corky Segal, and of course WXRT always had your music on. It feels like losing a family member. I saw you and Corky with Bo Diddly in Naperville Il. long time ago. We went to see Corky and got a wonderful surprise. Take care, thank you.
