Bonsai Tutorials for Beginners: Correcting Trunk Taper of a Young Tamarind Tree

Күн бұрын

In this clip I tried to correct a Trunk Taper of a young Tamarind grown from seed. Tamarinds are notorious for having reverse trunk taper and coiled up roots and more challenging is they have very sensitive roots. The younger they are the more pronounced this condition. I did the trunk split in two stages the second stage was done after 3 weeks from the first after ensuring that the plant survive the first surgery..

Put it in shade first since you just potted it up. wait till new shoots will grow to about 4 to 6 inches before easing it to the sun. you should tie your tree to your pot. If you hadn't done that now you can still tie the tree from the outside. Expected response after a trunk cut is a flush of shoots. let them grow first to grow roots and stabilize. Then you have to select which shoots you will retain planning which will be your new apex and which will be your first branch then wire the apex up and the branch laterally. Decrease the number of shoots. Remove the clearly unusable ones to focus your energy to the branches you are growing.

what is this white paste you applying on the trunk
@BonsaiIligan
@BonsaiIligan 8 жыл бұрын
+Avnish Chaudhary That is an Elmer's glue, or just an ordinary office glue. When you create wounds such as from large cuttings, the wounds can be a source of moisture loss and fungal infection. You need to seal them. There is a commercial sealant with anti fungal medication but the substitute works like this ordinary paper glue.

I am really curious about the way this is going to work out. Are you planning to make another video as soon as the choked legs are shooting roots? That would be nice:)

Daan H Yes Daan. I am planning to make an update on this video. In fact I plan to make updates on all my Bonsais that I have made a video of, when I will have to work on them again. But you have to be patient though because the choked legs would take time to root, maybe 6 months from now.

Hi, Im growing one tamarind tree to. I have it inside as indoor bonsai.I have now problem whit it becouse it started yellowing and droping leafs. Could it be to much/ to less water? Or lot of sun? or...thanks for your answer.
@BonsaiIligan
@BonsaiIligan 9 жыл бұрын
+BozskaCastica probably lack of sun since you said you kept it indoor. Do not also immediately put it out in the sun, cause it will be shocked. called sun shock. You have to ease them out to the sun and let it stay there for a long time to regain energy. decorate your home with it only for 3 to 4 days then ease it out again to the sun for a month or more. I have a video on this titled "Sater and Sunlight requirement"

just wanna ask what type/kind of wire is used in bonsai and where will it be purchase? thanks a lot!
@BonsaiIligan
@BonsaiIligan 9 жыл бұрын
Dwight Loteyro there are basically two types of "Bonsai Wires". first is the aluminum kind. the second is the Copper wire. The aluminum comes in two colors silver or copper colored one. Aluminum silver is the cheapest and the softest. You have to buy it from a bonsai store or supplier. Are you in the Philippines you can get it from "Harbest". or are you outside the Philippines, US, Australia, Canada, I've seen it from a "Bunnings" store. and of course you can buy it from the internet (many source).

What type of fertilizer used to the tamarind, a slow or fast fertilizer thank you for your reply.
@BonsaiIligan
@BonsaiIligan 8 жыл бұрын
its not about the specie but I decide what to use base on the size of the pot. the smaller the pot the more careful I fertilize. my general rule is the smaller the pots the more I tend to use liquefied organic fertilizers to minimize chances of burning the roots.
@BonsaiIligan
@BonsaiIligan 8 жыл бұрын
sometimes I use the chemical "slow release" placed in a dispenser to prevent from being washed away during watering. the large clay flower pots can take in more fertilizerss so I can use ordinary 14-14-14

Bonsai Iligan dear brother , you know that i am from bangladesh which's climate is sub trophical & heavy rainfall in monsoon. tamarind is a common tree here. for its charecteristics i am trying to make tamarind bonsai, but any way it has been died every time . even after matured condition it died. but why & pls give me suggetions. @ some died after root pruning. i think that if the thin roots get air or see the sun light then it will die. @ some died for nothing. i kept them under a shade which is slide dark , no air flowing. pls advice me. thank you sir.
@BonsaiIligan
@BonsaiIligan 9 жыл бұрын
Tamarinds have sensitive roots, when you work on it try not to disturb the roots much. Notice that in this video in-spite that I tortured the trunk part I did not disturb the roots. When you have to transfer it in a pot try to bring the root ball together as a whole, Then put it in a shade for sometime until you see there are new shoots growing and that is only the time you ease it out to the sun. To reduce the roots to fit a bonsai pot you have to do it in stages (gradually). and when you cut roots also cut from the top to balance the energy requirement.

You can wire into shape while the branches are supple. other wise you let it grow tall to have thick trunk then chop to shorten it. you get short but thick trunk tamarind.

wether saldana Naa dyuy sukod sa bonsai pot aron good siya tan.awon. kung rectangle siya (which is most common) naay proper proportion and length og width. Daghan man mang himoay og bonsai pot made of concrete mga bonsayista ra pud ang kasagaran. Ang Depth depende pud unsa kadak.on sa trunk na imo itanom. kung Cascade imo tanum, kinahanglan lalom ang pot. kung litirati style imo bonsai usually round and shallow. Dili tanan container pwedeng himoong bonsai pot. Sa pag training ra noon pero dung sa display na (exhibition or contest) dili na pwede kay dili pud nindot.
