This is one of those rare moments we get to see inside azula’s head. The fact that she can’t let loose or even be a teenager or have fun goes to show how her father has impacted her; like him, she views humanity and intimacy as weakness, and it’s obviously a very lonely life. She puts immense pressure on herself to be perfect, but a perfect weapon, because that’s all her father sees her as, or sees anything as for that matter. The only thing keeping her together is her friends.

This is the episode that I think I realized what Azula really was. She’s so evil all the time you never get to see the real her, you forget she’s a 14 year old trained killer, she had no real childhood, and despite her manipulation and treatment of Zuko, she does love her big brother. She’s a broken person controlled by an evil father, no wonder she’s crazy. Even in the epilogue comic we see how close her and Zuko were and in ways still are. She’s all he has left and he doesn’t give up on her even though he probably should. It’s a messed up family dynamic but it’s one that honestly makes sense given the circumstances

Combustion bending is a type of fire bending. If you remember back in season 1, Iroh explains how fire benders basically produce fire by guiding their chi out of their body, creating fire. As this basically implies that fire bending is in fact energy bending (physical energy, not spiritual), this also explains why for example lightning bending is a subform of fire bending. Similarly, combustion bending seems to be a rare talent where the bender can concentrate a ton of energy into a very condensed beam.

Yeah. In the Episode where Iroh tries to teache Zuko lightning, he also explains the source of fire bending is the stomach and breathing. If you look at the first attack of combastion-mans, you see him take a deep breath and basicly using all his muscle in his body to compress the chi from his stomach up to his head. The guy with the third eye, is a hired assassin, and not part of the Fire Army. He is of a rare and secretive order that learns to tap into their chi focus their fire bending into explosions. An interesting note I saw in SuperCarlin Brothers, was that when he prepared to fire, you see him suck his midsection in, really hard. If you recall, the lesson Uncle Iroh gave about redirecting lightning, he said to divert the energy into the stomach chakra, also called "The Sea of Chi" the source of energy in your body. So when he sucks his stomach in like that, he is tapping into his sea of chi to channel it through his head chakra and mixing it with fire bending to crate a precise explosion.
