Actually, the boodle fight originates in the Filipino military where the soldiers share all their food, rice, sardines, eggs, fish, and fruits. Etc... put it all on banana leaves, and eat it all together in the jungle. now, it's a part of Filipino gatherings. wonderful experience. even my American friends are doing it now in the states.

Mark Weins, one of the first westerner who discovered truly the essence of Filipino food. Not overpowering. Fusion. Something different to offer compared to its neighboring Asian countries. We don't want Thai, Indonesian, Japanese, korean, Chinese, etc food all the time. We want variety! Let's appreciate the interesting differences of these cuisines and not compare which is better. You've got it Mike!

Wow, amazing video Mark, thank you! I’m so impressed about how everything was done the natural way. No rush, no stress either - even when it started to rain during the video shoot. No gas, no electricity involved in the cooking and it occurred to me that nearly all food items were fresh and either grown or caught nearby. Talk about pure living and having a minimum footprint with regards to the environment! I’ve seen some ‘authentic village food’ videos before and not all seem to be tasty. I’m familiar with your videos and I know that you never hype up food that you don’t like, so I know the food is as delicious as you say it is. 👍

The chicken and pork looks delicious. The sweet and sour fish salad dish looks just as yummy too. The only disadvantage it takes quite long to cook dishes because they have to get the fire started.🤩 Unique dishes. Any food that is cooked with firewood definitely tastes better.

Super thumbs up, Mark! Love the traditional way of cooking chicken in a makeshift oven using wood fire, Humba Bisaya and the flying fish kilawin by the Yangco family. Amazingly simple, yet delectable (per Mark's declaration).

I personally want to try out someday that kind of roast chicken wrapped in banana stump, and that Surf n' Turf kinilaw looks uncommonly delicious. Really looking forward for the next videos to come in the series.

Watching from US! Incredible and yummy food. I really enjoy the boodle fight style eating; using hands (kamayan), whole family gather around and then eat all food laid out on the table (on banana leave). As always, great video Mark!❤️

That fish and pork combo Mark is called SINUG-LAW. "Sinug" stands for SINUGBA ( in Bisaya ) meaning grilled and LAW ( pronounced as LAO) stands for KINILAW. Kinilaw is any fish marinated in vinegar or kalamansi and other spices. Filipinos are very good in making names of their food combos using the first few letters and maybe last few letters of the name of the food.😊 I am happy you love Pinoy food now..👍🏼❤️

Hi Mark! One tip in doing the "kinamot." (eating with your bare hands) Don't twist your wrist once it gets to your mouth. You only need to push the rice, kinilaw and the humba with your thumb all at once. Pls try it.
