GarciaLive Volume Three features newly mastered original two-track recordings from one of Jerry's most experimental, improvisational and revered projects: Legion of Mary. I love the fact that this song was released by Stevie Wonder only a month before this recording by Jerry. It shows Jerry's ability to recognize good music, as obviously, this is a song for the ages. It also helps to articulate his impeccable taste.

Scott, you nailed this comment. This band Jerry pulled together in '74 was phenomenal, they knew current soul and funk and played with it. Jerry Band at its finest. Jerry is a national treasure.

Jerry certainly had a great ability to recognize good music ; however it wasn't Jerry who brought this number to the band, but his co-leader, Merl Saunders, who is the vocalist here. Too litte credit is given to Merl for his rôle in providing Jerry with a relaxed, laid-back milieu where he could develop his great talent in a musical context far removed from the constant pressures of the Grateful Dead.
