Book Banning Resistance is a session featuring Ginny Barnes, Lisa Cheby, Amanda Grombly, Raymond Pun, and Catherine Paolillo.
CFA Librarians Commitee discuss how libraries and librarians are seeing an increase in challenges, censorship attempts, and bans of books and information materials that highlight (or even just hint at) LGBTQIA+, ethnic, and race issues, experiences, histories, and people. Such occurrences impact not just individual intellectual freedom - the right to think for oneself, to seek knowledge, and to express one’s views through writing, film, visual art, and other information-carrying items - but also the institution of education and the enterprise of lifelong learning. A panel of librarians will discuss these challenges and how libraries and librarians are working collaboratively with others to protect the freedom to inquire, learn, and express.
