So many of our favourites here too! I didn’t realize that there was another series out by the author of Green Ember, so I’ll have to look into that! 😊 We love the Julia Rothman books…my kids have learned SO much. I’m fully aware that they’re secular books but ugh.

We use Sonlight and they always have great books. There are a few in there that have made me cry!

Alcatraz vs. The evil librarian series by Brandon Sanderson! My kids love this series! Good humor and clean fun! 😁

My kids love The Ark, the Reed and the Fire Cloud series by Jenny Cote.

I hope to start the Green Ember series this year and now I'll add Dream keeper to our list. If you haven't read it, you may want to look at Chuck Black's Kingdom Series. It's an allegory of the Bible in medieval style. I wanted to preview before giving it to my daughter and I got hooked and read the whole series. (The last book seems to reference a rapture but a kid may or may not pick up on that.)

I was just looking at the Dreamkeeper Saga yesterday wondering if it would be a good fit for my almost 10 yr old girl who is a voracious reader. Seems like maybe they are for a little older kids? She loved the Wingfeather Saga and devoured them in a very rapid time frame. I’m glad you mentioned that about those Julia Rothman books. I always felt like I wasn’t a proper homeschooler cause I didn’t own them (jk kinda 😅) I’ve never seen anyone give a warning with the author before and they are such popular books in the homeschool community.

Can I get more info on the issues surrounding Julia Rothman? I just ordered one of her books today. I am a Secular homeschooler, but i don't agree with Darwinism. I'm also a Conservative Libertarian, so is there anything I should be concerned about? I just started looking through her Instagram, trying to decide what to make of it.

She is just a liberal and some people feel the need to cancel everyone with different views. I'm more of a libertarian. I find her content fine. But I also don't feel like I have to agree with everything a person says to enjoy their content.

@threatlevelmidnight3588 oh same, I'm not a supporter of cancel culture at all. Just conscious consumerism. Especially when it comes to what my children read, I want to make sure it's content that's appropriate for them. So far I've not seen anything I'm extremely concerned about with her Instagram, just some of her views I disagree with. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything big.

@cheyennemundy9681 not that I have seen, and I've looked. I'm a secular evolutionists and my best friend is a Christian who believes in creationism. We haven't been able to find anything wrong with the content of the books. She doesn't seem extreme in her views, but I can see how it could make some ultra conservatives uncomfortable. (I hope this isn't coming off as saying people are wrong for not purchasing based on their beliefs. Everyone should shop where they feel comfortable.)

@threatlevelmidnight3588 Thank you for answering my question! It will definitely help in my making an informed decision on purchasing more of her books or not. It's definitely not easy picking curriculum and books to use with the curriculum. I've spent hours researching curriculum and books for each grade level.

@@threatlevelmidnight3588 Disagreeing with someone and refusing to support them is not cancel culture. As humans, we get to decide who we support and who we don't.
