I struggled with this video. I'm an active member of the church and am familiar with all the issues related to BoM historicity and translation. My wife left the church a few years ago and I've remained active and have been on a journey trying to understand and reconcile a lot of issues that were challenging for my wife (and many other members). I could only get through about 30 minutes of this video, it was too frustrating. I wasn't seeing the connections and how it overcomes the issues related to the BoM. Many scholars and even in a General Conference talk (Elder Soares) are seeing the BoM as a revelation, the plates not being used, expansion theory etc. Seeing the BoM as a revelation seems to be the only way to try and overcome the many issues. This rhetoric is a departure from the narrative I grew up with over the past 30-40 years and not what Joseph Smith indicated about the nature of the BoM and translation process. Perhaps I need to watch more of this video. I suspect though that scholars will have information on this discovery that will provide greater clarity. I appreciate that many people will be excited about this. I will be interested to follow this story further and hear the views of scholars, experts in this field.

Yeah, it almost makes one wish that the LDS Church was led by, you know, prophets, seers and revemuhlators who held the keys of "translation" by the "gift and power of God". If only something like that existed....well....if something like that existed we could have the definitive translation and explanation almost immediately. Too bad there isn't anything like that. Like just imagine if someone like Russell M. Nelson had some kind of powers and abilities like that. Instead of spending so much time trying to keep the financial/asset holdings of the Church opaque to the ordinary members, he could be delivering amazing spiritual insights and relevant historical truths to the world for the edification of all people. And all the experts would be dumbfounded and confounded by the accuracy and impeccable perfection of the "Rusty Translations" (as such body of work would come to be known).

Maybe not because Zenos was probably from the northern kingdom that had been taken into captivity by Assyria. The Hebrews that escaped to Arabia probably came only from the southern kingdom of Judah and virtually did not have Zenos writings if he was from the north kingdom. But, if you had the brass plates, a record kept by descendants of Joseph who fled from the north to the south due to Jeroboam’s introduction of idolatry, as the Bible records, or to flee from the Assyrians, then you might have known about Zenos. For behold, yea, verily, it came to pass that the Book of Mormon didst come to be a book full of exceedingly excess verbiage of dubious value, save it be for the numerous passages copied verbatim and wholesale from that Bible that will for future generations be known as the Version of King James, or in other words the King James Version. Is that the same as the 8-pointed star, formed by overlaying 2 squares, referred to as the Seal of Melchizedek?
@solomon21617 ай бұрын
@@MusicBlik I believe those two symbols, and many more cosmic symbols, share a common origin that is based on something that actually appeared in the sky. But they look very different. For an example of the form that represents feminine deities, look up the Star of Ishtar.

The eight pointed star is the Seal of Melchizedek according to Hugh Nibley! That little star has 8 points!!! Priesthood, priestly people writing about the temple!!!!😊
@TEAM__POSEID0N7 ай бұрын
Excerpt from BYU Religious Study Center article ("The Seal of Melchizedek?"): "One fact consistently overlooked by those who circulate the story of the seal of Melchizedek is that Nibley was not the original source for that phrase. While the comment appears in his book Temple and Cosmos, the author of the caption (to which the legend can be traced) was Michael Lyon, the book’s illustrator. Lyon thought he had once seen the design in a book on Catholic symbolism, but he doubted the legitimacy of the name or title. In Temple and Cosmos, he used the term “so-called” to suggest caution about putting too much stock in the name or the seal’s connection with Melchizedek." " Thus it seems likely that Nibley never actually examined or approved the caption, though he likely had been introduced to the mistaken connection between the symbol and Melchizedek through Lyon’s innocent passing remark."

I'm fairly familiar with paleo-Hebrew. The leaf on the right (25:37) looks like the back of the embossing because the paleo-Hebrew is backwards. The first line you were asking about, I believe is YHVH... It's kind of hard to say for sure without seeing the leaves in person because one letter in particular. If I were to give a quick translation of what I see on that leaf, I would say it reads: "YHVH the book".

The entire time I am watching these guys talk about “Hebrews being in Saudi Arabia”, they appear to be uncomfortable talking about gold book, with links to a Hebrew tribe, the name of Yahweh etc. Most evangelicals know the story of the LDS church and they have spent their entire life debunking Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon yet here they are giving evidence that what they have demonized could have actually been true. They seem to be working hard to make this all look new and unique and you can see that they are either ignorant to the origins of the Restoration or they do not want to hint at anything connecting this to evidence that Joseph Smith was actually a prophet of God and the Book of Mormon is an ancient record of a group of people who left Jerusalem in the 600s BC just prior to the destruction of Jerusalem!

I normally don't comment before I watch a video in full, but hopefully I'll be able to finish watching soon. As the beginning goes though, I would have hoped to see a little more skepticism as they begin to see "new evidence." I use quotes, because one should keep in mind these artifacts could be forgeries, or from a different location that was claimed, or many other possibilities. Remember these are not archaeologists that are discussing this. This is especially important if there is a financial incentive involved. I'm seeing they address the possibility of a forgery, but I don't think they're really giving it or other possibilities adequate thought. The desire to believe is a powerful thing.
@brettanial7 ай бұрын
And they immediately associate "lead and gold" books with "bronze and gold," is it not significant that they use lead instead of bronze? Those are quite different metals after all, with bronze being an alloy with very different properties and forging technique.
@weightelk7 ай бұрын
The blind spots these young youtubers have is quite shocking. It seems they want to believe so hard that they immediately discount the idea that this "new evidence" might be a forgery or be for some financial incentive. I think these guys on the youtube channel have already made up their mind and are now scrambling desperately to show logically and reasonably any justification for their irrational belief.
@brettanial7 ай бұрын
At 38 minutes in, they talk about the chamber that they found the artifacts in, and the reaction from SOJ was to say how similar the description was to the one Joseph gave. But, the description is just, "a chamber with gold artifacts" which would describe almost any room in the world, that had gold in it. I mean literally all of them actually. Because a chamber just means a room. I think chamber might actually be more vague.

@@weightelk They belong to an evidence-hungry religious organization. The origin story of the BoM (as told by the Church's founder, Joseph Smith) requires belief in: (1) a glow-in-the-dark-resurrected-man-angel named Moroni; (2) translation of an extensive ancient historical record on a huge stack of golden plates by way of a magic rock in a hat and magic crystals connected to a breastplate; and (3) the convenient disappearance of all of those magical things (except for the rock, which now is apparently just a rock...maybe the battery died) because the aforementioned Moroni took those amazing objects all up to heaven for safekeeping.

@TEAM__POSEID0N7 ай бұрын
@@jeremims9044 No serious critics of the BoM origin story (as told by Joseph Smith) ever relied on "ridiculing" the notion of gold plates with engravings. (It has always been all the magical-mystery elements of JS's story that received ridicule.) The KJV Bible (Exodus 28:36) specifically refers to engraving words on gold plates and links such things to a breastplate...and that's probably where Joseph Smith got his initial ideas for a story about ancient writings on gold plates. No critic of the BoM who was familiar with just the Bible would EVER have claimed that ancient people did not engrave things on metallic plates. This is a straw man that MORMONS use just for the purpose of claiming a "debunking" (that is only a debunking in their delusions) whenever some ancient metallic object with engravings is found.
