These guys spent thousands of dollars on stuff that some engines have by default, but using Unity you have to buy them from the store. Heavy use of megascans assets or something similar. Sad that in reallity this engine does not let you achieve the same reasult without cash flow from your pocket. Independent game development on this level is almost impossible. P.S. Anyway i continue to use Unity, because i've spent to much time on it and i know only c#/js.

"Well look at that, I didn't think you had it in you?" - Whether it is or isn't, it sounds like a little dig at the community who thought Unity couldn't achieve such quality. :D The Unity team should now press forward with a set of tutorials detailing from start to finish, how it was made, designed and implemented within the engine. All from a technical stand point, from shaders, lighting, post post processing and composition. The community needs pushing forward to help dispel this stigma of Unity being a poor mans engine. :)

@@TheMillionDollarDropout I have a 4k monitor and disagree. My roommate bought a TV last year. Said it was 4k. We had it for about 2 weeks till he told me he lied to see if I could actually tell the difference. Also specfically games have to make use of it. Ray tracing wont be mandatory in game development for at least 5 years. Rumor is ps5 can use a graphics card that can run ray tracing for games but that doesnt mean the ps5 itself can which I highly doubt it would be able to. Think about it like this. The ps4 now was said to have the capability to run all games at 60 fps blah blah blah. They weren't wrong cause its hardware can but only in theory. Also devs would have to have access to ray tracing for years which they haven't. It was recently just made available to them. Noone is making a game yet solely using it. Takes about 3-5 years to make a good game. So that's why I say about 5 years. Also they would have to exclude a large portion of their consumer base that dont have 4k TVs cause they still aren't as common in households as say a LED TV is now. Projections say about another 2 years and 4k will be cheaper to the point middle class americans will replace their current TVs with them. Then these companies also have to take into consideration PC hardware. Games since forever have been hampered by the hardware of consoles. Since pc can have interchangeable parts and you can adjust practically anything you want from the settings, code itself, to your pc and consoles can't games are typically made on a pc but reigned in by the limitations of the console. I doubt this will change drastically with the next gen. Also VR isnt even mainstream. It is still pretty niche. If VR which came out before hasn't hit yet and it is arguably cheaper than 4k and ray tracing are nothing special atm. They aren't even being used to their full potential
@TheMillionDollarDropout5 жыл бұрын
@@aliquidgaming1068 I love you dude, you seem to know what you're talking about, your roommate is a dick, I can see a difference with 4K to 1080P and my eyes aren't even the best if I'm being honest but it's almost like flipping a switch going from day to night. VR is a niche yup I feel like it was released too early just like RTX. High-End systems struggle to run the VIVE PRO at a good stable FPS (what is it like a mandatory 90 I think? Something like that.) I had a Vive once and it's a nice I don't know, BONUS? to have around to mess with but it's not exactly groundbreaking thanks to the lack of VR treadmills out for consumers not even sure if a single one is out yet to be honest, every time I saw a new one pop up it might've said coming to consumers but then it went to arcades and shit. The most fascinating part of VR for me was actually the fact that I could strap on the headset and instantly I actually felt surrounded by people as I would if they were really there with me in the same space, it's a weird sort of warming feeling, it's like "Ah these are my peeps... Just a bunch of gamers standing around in our VR headsets having a good time." since graphics suck badly in 95% of VR games right now lol. ANYWAY, SO 4K won't be cheap until another 2 years for Middle-Class Americans?! DAMN THOSE MIDDLE-CLASS PEOPLE TO HELL! AmIright?! *shoulder budges* btw yeah it does take 2+ years to make a good game and take full advantage of ray tracing from START TO FINISH. That's actually why I can't wait to see another 2 years go by in the gaming industry... I am impressed with Battlefield V and definitely impressed with Metro Exodus's RTX implementation and these are games that didn't start to develop with RTX in mind from the very beginning. If anything they had a few months to a year at most to implement it the way they did. I seriously can't wait to see some games that had it in mind from their inception.

Because the purpose of the projects aren't to create full games, but to showcase the engines graphic capabilities. Aside from providing something to focus on aesthetically, the story is just there to make the demo more engaging than a PowerPoint presentation or montage of video clips. A full fledged game is not only more technically difficult, but also radically more expensive and time consuming to make compared to these demos. That being said, there's no reason they couldn't take all the work they've done and license it out to a third party developer.

I can only imagine how bloody long this took to make and.. as a (working to become) game developer, I can only assume achieving this in unity is much harder than something like unreal (or even cryengine, but even though it's probably the most stunning looking engine, it's still rarely used, especially for non-triple a developers).. Unity dev team, if you by chance read this you're doing an amazing job. This is one of the most gorgeous things I've seen. I encourage you to make such quality more accessible and easier to achieve in the future, though. It would make many developer's lives a lot easier (especially of those who still believe unity is by far the best engine to use).

Unity always has the ability to surpass UR's graphic quality, its not about the engine, its about game developers who just started with unity and don't know how to use it for maximum visual quality and ripping assets from low-quality games or websites
@VictorBurgosGames6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm...sorry to burst that bubble, but you are 100% wrong. By default UE4 (or UE, both are the correct way to abbreviate Unreal Engine (4)), has always have a better renderer than Unity.
@Devistute6 жыл бұрын
True, but then again if you remove the post processing Unreal Engine sets up automatically it really doesn't look much better than Unity at fresh project start. From there on, its all on the user to tune them etc. I personally don't dig the Unreal Engine for the editor lag it has, its just horrible.

awesome man... don't get it that serious, it's meant more as a joke : ) The graphic is so incredible and beautiful. It's just unbelievable what you can achieve today if you do it the right way, in real-time! 20 Years ago you wouldn't believe something like this is even possible. So yes of course, I guess you should be able to run it with an gtx 980 or above. The next step is: "Ray Tracing".

To be fair, yes you are right that assets plays a part. However lets not forget fact that Unity took on some very seriously capable graphics engine coders a couple of years ago who had previously worked at places like Codemasters. I think that is also beginning to pay off.

Orimpo Games that it is possible to make graphics like this in a game. Doesn’t necessarily mean that we have the tech to actually run a game with this level of graphics tho. I would estimate around 2025 gameplay could look like this. I wouldnt be expecting it earlier.

On the unity site they claim that "The project runs 30 fps in 1080p on PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and Windows/DX11 (mid-range gaming system). It is also supported on macOS/Metal, Windows/Vulkan/DX12 as well as on PS4, Xbox One and Xbox One S." Keep in mind though this is just walking around a map ( a very pretty one) there is no AI, or networking or much else going on besides rendering some very impressive visuals. It's still very cool though. But I think part of the problem in getting a entire full length game that looks this detailed throughout is simply time and resources. Hell just read how the foliage and what not are made. "All of the natural environment assets in the demo are photogrammetry-scanned real-world objects and textures." Imagine having to do that but create enough assets for a entire game of that quality instead of single map. Who knows though, when I was a kid I never imagined games would look as good as they do now. Things have come a very long way in a short amount of time.

Not as long as you'd think apparently. The assets are on the unity store for free, you can download and see for yourself in unity.

@@iulianispas8634 Got no idea what you're talking about. This video is not of a game, its of a demo made by the unity team to show off what its rendering engine can do. Hell I have a video I uploaded of me running around this map running it on my PC (all the assets are free on the unity store) on a regular GTX 1080. Don't care if a game is exclusive though. I own a gaming PC, Xbox , and a PS4. If a game is good I'll buy it (if its multi platform I buy it for PC because that's what I prefer), I don't do the whole stupid fan boy thing.

So apparently this is only able to be done realtime thanks to a new Scriptable Render Pipeline in Unity 2018. Does anyone know how to put that in layman's terms? From what I gather, its like allowing people to write their own API for the GPU.
